Midcentury Modern on the outside, of-the-moment style on the inside, smack dab in DC’s buzzy Dupont Circle

The Look

This curvilinear midcentury building got an update to the tune of $52 million in 2009, transforming it from a retro relic to a buzzy contemporary gem. Less staid than your average DC hotel, it has light-filled rooms with clean lines and a palette of slate and cream with pops of tomato and goldenrod.

Bed and Bath

Rooms draw inspiration from the midcentury building, with tables and chairs evoking Eames and Saarinen, but the tech amenities are decidedly modern, including flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Sleep comes easily here thanks to upholstered headboards, cloud-like beds and a “pillow menu”. The bathrooms are the one misstep. The sleek half-wall showers create slick floors as water splashes everywhere. But heated floors make up for the puddles.

Café Dupont is a favorite among locals thanks to delicious French brasserie fare and an expansive outdoor patio, which curves around part of Dupont Circle. It’s the perfect spot for happy hour cocktails and people watching. Be sure to check out Level 9, a sort of hotel within a hotel with a private restaurant and the Miami-style outdoor lounge.

DuPont Circle Hotel

We were in DC for Capital Hill Classic volleyball tournament. We stayed in this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Staff were super personable and attentive. Yared and Balin were so helpful and always offered a bottled water on our way out which was a really unexpected touch. I would not hesitate to stay again and recommend to others. Thank you!

Great hotel, superb service.

Visiting a friend in DC and I decided on The DuPont Circle hotel. I am glad I chose this hotel for my first visit to DC! The hotel is beautiful, in a great location and the customer service is great! The Doyle bar is sophisticated, classy and the bartenders Andre, Brittany and Harper are too cool! They were friendly, helpful, talkative and made the atmosphere very cool. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great staff

The room was modern, though a bit on the small side. Great shower, good coffee machine, heated flooring and comfortable beds. However most of all, the staff at this hotel were brilliant. The bellman was so hospitable and fun. I believe it was Niko who brought me a hot chocolate and Yared and Balin looking after my baggage and helping me out. It's great to see people enjoying their jobs and putting a smile on people's faces!

Balin was super helpful. Classy and beautiful hotel. Location is excellent. Would definitely recommend and come back when in the DC area.

There's lots of choices of places to hang nearby and the metro entrances is super close.

Well situated for public transport and amenities

Friendly staff at reception who welcomed me warmly offering a bottle of water and more when needed, all complimentary. Would be useful in hot summer months especially. My room, 734 was clean with a king size bed and good lighting. There was a place to hang clothes but not much other storage space. The windows had no curtains only wooden shutters which did not always keep the room dark enough at night for sleeping. The bathroom had a heated floor which was lovely but the shower area was a disappointment. To me, it looked unfinished. The shower was static and to turn it on caused freezing cold water to come out - not good with snow falling outside. I later discovered that by turning the tap further hot water would run, The floor area was almost like standing on cobbles and as there was a frosted window right beside the shower area with cold air blowing in, although shut, it was not very inviting. It was only after leaving that I wished that I had mentioned this at front desk but jet lag and too much to be fitted in meant I did not say anything. On the whole if I could be ensured that showers in other rooms were better I would happily stay here again.
