Midcentury Modern on the outside, of-the-moment style on the inside, smack dab in DC’s buzzy Dupont Circle

The Look

This curvilinear midcentury building got an update to the tune of $52 million in 2009, transforming it from a retro relic to a buzzy contemporary gem. Less staid than your average DC hotel, it has light-filled rooms with clean lines and a palette of slate and cream with pops of tomato and goldenrod.

Bed and Bath

Rooms draw inspiration from the midcentury building, with tables and chairs evoking Eames and Saarinen, but the tech amenities are decidedly modern, including flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Sleep comes easily here thanks to upholstered headboards, cloud-like beds and a “pillow menu”. The bathrooms are the one misstep. The sleek half-wall showers create slick floors as water splashes everywhere. But heated floors make up for the puddles.

Café Dupont is a favorite among locals thanks to delicious French brasserie fare and an expansive outdoor patio, which curves around part of Dupont Circle. It’s the perfect spot for happy hour cocktails and people watching. Be sure to check out Level 9, a sort of hotel within a hotel with a private restaurant and the Miami-style outdoor lounge.

The Dupont Bar

I had to spend some time here before going elsewhere and the bartenders were incredibly friendly and outgoing. Specifically, Mread, Grim, Andre, and Brittany. These four bartenders were quite exceptional and made the time pass by quickly.

EXCEPTIONAL! Hotel staff are beyond friendly and accomodating!

From check in to check out and constantly in between, the hotel staff went out of their way to accommodate me during my stay. The overall presentation of the room was clean and welcoming. The location was perfect. I ordered a meal from an outside entity during my stay and the process of confirming and receiving the delivery was unexpected but certainly appreciated. As the delivery arrived, the front desk called my room to confirm my order and then walked the delivery person to my room with a smile. I will stay at Dupont Circle anytime I am in the area.

I love this hotel!

My stay was perfect from start to finish. The hotel is very beautiful, stylish, clean, and in a great location. The beds were extremely comfortable and the view was breathtaking. The service was absolutely phenomenal!! Everyone was very nice, professional, and friendly. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was special. A special thank you to Karen and Luis for taking such great care of us during our two night stay! The hotel itself is lovely, but the service from the staff is what makes it stand out from the rest! Joel, Imani, Chantel, the young lady who checked us in (I forgot to take her name) and the gentlemen who served us at breakfast also provided exceptional service! I cannot wait to come back and stay with you all again!

Service was incredible

I am really bad at remembering to write a review. Even with this one, it’s been a month since my visit. However, I had THE BEST time and could not pass up the opportunity to share. The service was incredible. When we first got there, Angelo greeted us as we walked in. Throughout our visit, Angelo remembered the conversations we had and went out of his way to make a lasting relationship.

Then, our bags were carried to our room and all my jackets were hung in the closet. By the way, the room smells like lavender when you walk in. I still think about how pleasant our first impression was.

Then, my husband casually mentioned (as the bell hop was hanging my jackets in the closet) that he had brought me here as a surprise birthday present. When we came back from dinner, there was champagne and a hand written note.

Finally, every time we visited the bar, we had the most personal service. The waiter Derek stood out to us. He asked genuine questions to help understand us, but we noticed him doing the same to other people. Which showed us that you are guaranteed to get quality service.

It was the trip of a lifetime!
