Stylish room, plenty of space, and friendly front desk & housekeeping staff

The hotel has an excellent location, manly, and the room's decor is pretty hip. If you have particular preferences, they will make sure everything is the way you want. Probably my favorite of all the Kimpton in DC.

Rude, grumpy service and sneaky "ammenity fee" of $26 added

I'll start with the positive. The room itself was very nice. I had a standard room but it was what many would consider a junior suite in terms of size, and well furnished.

Unfortunately, the staff was horrific. At check-in and the restaurant everyone seemed grumpy and bothered to be serving you - not a smile in sight

Then upon check-out I asked to have the bill emailed to me, confirming only extra charge was dinner. When I received the bill I noticed they added $26 in ammenity fees. Apparently that is for the "free" internet and automatically charged to all bills. I've seen that at resorts, but for an inner city boutique hotel quite ridiculous.

Overall, much better places to stay in DC where the staff seems happy to be there

The Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel was nothing short of a wonderful 1-night stay. My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding at the Mayflower and opted for this little gem about a half mile away from the main venue. All of the furniture, bedding, pillows and amenities were top notch. This hotel honors IHG members to the highest regard. Upon arrival, we were greeted with an acceptance of early check-in, upgraded to the top floor with a decent little view (the hotel is only 10 floors total, so you can't expect anything too spectacular from peering out the windows). Between the ceremony and reception, we came back to the hotel briefly and found a hand-written welcome card, a bottle of red and a small cheese and fruit plate waiting for us. Thank you, Gaby for your kind welcome and a great start to our stay.

The morning after, we requested a quickly allowed extended check-out, got to press snooze an extra time and fit in a few minutes on the rooftop at the pool.

Oh! They also had a free happy hour in the lobby with rose, white, red, and a mixed gin drink, along with freshly popped popcorn with the option of adding old bay seasoning or parmesan sprinkle... or both? ;-)

Way too hot

I booked this hotel on a whim after the capitals won the cup to surprise my Fiancè with a weekend in DC. (Also for our anniversary) We just checked out and needless to say, WE WILL BE BACK. The experience started when we couldn’t do valet due to specific reasons and one of the guys - Antoine GAVE UP HIS OWN PARKING SPOT to let us park there!!! Saved us the hassle of looking for a spot -we had a weekend spot RIGHT in front of the hotel! Then I go to check in (a little early) and I met Andre at the front desk. He couldn’t find my reservation because the system used my middle initial so we shared a few laughs, the room wasn’t ready but he gave me the option to text me when it was - he then texted me calling me “Kelsey with an A” which was SO comical! Antoine let us stay parked there regardless of not being checked in yet and we were able to adventure out for the day stress free! We spent some time on the roof top bar which was AMAZING - so relaxing and quite the view. The room was clean and bright! For us ladies - the toiletries (shampoo conditioner and body wash) are regular size bottles not those little dinky ones! And they smell so good! They have all natural ingredients! To end the trip - check out was SO QUICK and simple. Thank you to the employees of Kimspon Mason and Rook who made our FIRST stay nothing less than amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing!
