Balinese beachfront hideaway with tropical gardens, traditional architecture and a rustic-chic spa
The essential appeal of the Royal Beach is in the details: thatched poolside “bales” (the Balinese answer to gazebos), soft lights encased in stone carvings, soaring roofs that look as if they belong on a temple, intricately carved doors and windows. The 128 rooms and 17 private villas are set around two pools, one right by the beach and a second in the lush garden area.
Bed and Bath
Guests staying in one of the resort’s 17 villas can look forward to a private pool and plenty of marble and soft linens. However, most people staying here will be in one of the rooms housed in a winding block which curves like a sail across the grounds. Mosquito nets draped above the beds add a romantic touch, as do highly polished floors and lush views over the gardens.
The Royal Beach excels when it comes to dining: open-air Capris is a homage to Mediterranean food with beachfront views. Husk leans more towards fusion, while Japanese chefs show off their slicing, dicing and grilling skills right in front of the customers at Teppanyaki. The detox rituals at Namaya Spa are an enticing antidote to over indulgence.
