How to Get There
My husband and I stayed here to celebrate his birthday. We checked in late on Nov 2, 2018 around 10pm went to room to check it out and drop bags off. We then went downstairs to gamble and I went back to room about 2:30am. Upon entering room I noticed an odor and when I went to bathroom the sink was filled with a substance (feces/vomit). I immediately went downstairs to front desk and told the guest agent who advised he called maintenance. I went back to room and called my husband who was still downstairs to alert him of this and wait for maintenance. After about 15-20 minutes i called the front desk again and clerk advised they should be on way to room. The front desk agent was very nonchalant about all of this. I decided after 30 minutes to go back to front desk to let them know that maintenance was a "no show". I had to suggest he put us in another room. He did accommodate us with another room however our concern was how did this happen. We did not see it in sink when we arrived nor had we gone back to room so either someone was able to enter our room (staff or guest) or either it came up through sink. Upon checking out next morning we asked to speak with Front Desk Manager who was already made aware of what happen per report filed. We were told they would review camera footage and get back to us. We were also told we would receive a phone call which we never received. I decided to wait about a month to give time to review but when I called I was forwarded to security voicemail where I left a message. I was told I would need to speak to them since it was turned over to them. As of today we have yet to receive any feedback on what happened. Yes we received an apology, few buffet tickets but they refused to discount or give free room until investigation was complete. Why am I now posting this review now months later because as much as we love the casino, shops and surroundings this incident and how it was handled was very disappointing and unacceptable. The picture was too disgusting to post. I hope Dover Downs will do better when it comes to customer service.
Had the opportunity to stay at Dover Downs after the Loverboy concert. That alone was worth coming to the hotel as the Rollins Center was a great place to see it. However, this review is about the hotel. We stayed on the 7th Floor, room was very clean and much bigger than expected. Bigger than most (if not all) of the hotels we have stayed in the past.
The bathroom was probably one of the biggest bathrooms we have ever had at a hotel. It was clean, plenty of towels and I am amazed how clean the shower doors were. Shower was a walk in and they still use shower doors, but considering the hard water, they were emaculate. Impressive. There was a minor leak at that show head connection. A very minor thing that I reported to the hotel front desk the next morning. did not affect our stay.
The A/C was off when we got there and did not turn it on until late that night. The fan was very quiet and cooled the room down (was a bit stuffy in there as the day was rather mild) which helped with sleeping. Bedding was comfortable and clean. Yes, I did check as I always do when going to a hotel, especially for the first visit. And the pillows were firm, much firmer than I have ever experienced before.
There is a bit of a trick to get the the floors above the 4th one. You need to place your card on a panel to give you access to those floors. Was not told this when we checked in, but it is on the room key and on the pad in the elevator. First time visitors be aware of this. Once we scanned the card over the panel, had no issues getting to our room. There are 4 elevators and it was crowded, but did not have to wait long at all for a elevator up or down.
Overall, Dover Downs hotel is a very nice hotel and was very clean. I can only speak about our experience and we had no issues and would love to stay there again. Only concern about staying in the future was the cost when compared to others in Delaware or even south DE or Ocean City area. If we get the chance and the price is right, would love to stay here again.
The only reason I gave this Review 2 dots Is because it's not the casino's fault that the hotel is disgusting ! Me and my husband book to stay for his birthday when I had originally tried to book the stay me and my mother-in-law went in to make reservations, there's a big desk that says registration! oh no you have to pick up the phone and call to be able to make a reservation , we called 9 times and nobody answered! and we finally were able to make the reservation for February 2nd and check out February 3rd. We were told that we were able to check in I believe she said 1:30 or 2, so me and my husband arrived at 2 30it was a big cluster to get checked in . The guy checking out sin had no clue what he was doing they couldn't find the reservation it was just a big klusterfuk and by the time we were checked in it was almost 3:30. It should not take an hour to be checked into your hotel room. The hotel room is nothing magnificent especially for the prices that they charge on some nights I was looking at the prices one night was almost $500 for one night in my opinion not worth it! I'm not impressed at all I used to work at a couple of hotels and if the hotel rooms look the way that this one did we would have made somebody come back and clean it. I don't complain so I didn't call down but I have pictures of everything as shown with the review there was trash under the nightstand hair in the shower and on the toilet seat and the toilet seat had a strip on it that says it was sanitized that was not properly sanitized if there was hair on it! My husband's biggest thing when we stay somewhere is the hot tub he loves to relax in the hot tub when we don't have the kids so we went to the pool in the hot tub did your part is very nice the pool was beautiful it was very nice we enjoyed the pool a lot and my husband does not swim in the pool we normally only gets in the hot tub. The hot tub was disgusting I mean nasty look like it hadn't been cleaned in years needless to say we will not be staying at Dover Downs anymore! The food was okay and everything in the food section was clean and so was the casino but as for the hotel to me not worth the money not worth staying there I'll stay down the street at a Holiday Inn and come to the casino and they don't do hot crab legs on Fridays or Saturdays unlimited anymore so that was another thing that turned us off so I think from now on we'll just go to Harrington buffet but I just wanted everybody to know our experience and granted everybody might not have the same experience but this is just what happened when we were there.
We love the beautiful clean rooms., friendly staff and the many dining options. Our favorite is the buffet because not only has the food been great every time we dined there , we love that we can watch the race track from our table.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights and totally enjoyed the subdued atmosphere of the hotel and casino. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Carrie at the front desk even told us how we could get a discounted room at their VIP desk! Staff friendliness extends to the restaurants, bars and shops. Our room on the parking lot side was quiet with nice view of the surroundings, especially at night. The hotel is very well located on Dupont Ave. A winner, and we'll keep coming back!
