La Maltese Estate
What We Love
- The pool deck includes a terrace and an infinity pool
- An excellent on-site restaurant — one of the best on Santorini
- Free nightly tastings of local wines
What To Know
- The property is open seasonally from April through November
- The pool is quite small, as most are on Santorini
- Imerovigli is not as heavily traveled as other parts of Santorini; it’s a quiet getaway
- The hotel’s formal, classic French design can seem out of place on Santorini
- La Maltese is one of the few cliff hotels to welcome children
- Free WiFi
Set high atop Santorini’s caldera (820 feet above the Aegean, to be exact), La Maltese is housed in a 100-year-old neoclassical mansion off the tourist path in the lightly traveled town of Imerovigli. Relaxing comes high on the agenda, and a stay here is all about enjoying the nightly wine tastings on the outdoor deck, sunning yourself by the pool, and breakfasting alfresco on the balcony (breakfast is served until 3 p.m.). La Maltese lacks many standard hotel formalities, with no reception area or strict meal schedule, and the lobby-cum-living-room is dotted with antiques, oriental rugs and ornate mirrors, making the whole place feel like your own private villa. Each of its nine rooms are luxurious and elegant, with handmade four-poster beds and intricate gilt mirrors. The Honeymoon and Master Suites are as spacious as they are lavish; both split over two floors they come with their own private verandas with volcano views, while the Standard Double Room has a veranda with inland views. Of course, days here aren’t meant to be spent fully en chambre, and the hotel’s pool deck has a terrace, gorgeous infinity pool, and plenty of loungers for lazing the afternoon away. Then there’s the spa, with its indoor heated Jacuzzi, hammam, sauna, jet showers, relaxation area and experienced therapists. After you’ve rested up, you can get out and explore Santorini in style. The staff can arrange a car to the best beaches, or a private yacht charter. When your day is done and you’re enjoying the fiery sunset, it’s easy to see why this island has enchanted travelers for centuries.
How to Get There
La Maltese was the perfect destination for our family, we booked the family villa to sleep 6. We had 2 seperate villas each with kitchen facilities. The villa was on 3 levels, the villas, the sun baking level and the the private pool. The walk into Thira was around 30 minutes but there were local buses to catch. There were a few eateries in the area also.
I stayed at the La Maltese Buddha Bar Santorini for 5 days from the minute I got there I was greeted by Anita who was very nice and cordial when I realized my room didn't have a sofa bed I told Anita and she immediately got me a room with a sofa bed. The place was very organized and clean and the room were nice. The views are breathtaking and the staff was very professional and cordial. Anita and Angelo were extremely helpful and nice and gave me many options on different things to do and places to visit. Angelo showed me how to download Google map driving directions and to use the app offline which was a life save because I had a rental car and I drove everywhere! Angelo also gave a tour and an option to stay at the brand new Villas. Anita was great and always greeted me with a big smile and she was very helpful and very nice! The food was very good and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing! The room were very well cleaned and maintained. I will definitely stay at La Maltese Buddha Bar Santorini Again!!
My husband and I stayed at the Buddha Bar hotel for three nights last week, which we had booked “last minute” through a travel agent in Athens. We arrived around midday and from the moment we arrived, we experienced warm, friendly, flexible and personable service. We received a wonderful welcome cocktail and the hotel looked after our bags until it was time to check in. When we checked in, we received a basket of fruit and bottle of wine in our room, which was lovely. Our package included breakfast, the menu featured a good range of food to cater for every taste. The view of the Caldera is amazing. On our last night we enjoyed a meal and cocktails watching the sunset, listening to funky lounge tunes. This is a great place for couples to stay.
