How to Get There
Coming into this hotel in Santorini, we were warmly greeted by Maria with a glass of sparkling wine while we checked in. Maria continued to tell us about the property as well as ask us what our plans were for our stay since we were only staying for a day and night before our return to Mykonos. We wanted to see all the sites that Santorini has to offer and Maria arranged the catamaran as well as our ride back to the airport as soon as we arrive back to hotel so we could make our plane
The property is lovely with spacious rooms, all new, classic decor and they use Korres toiletries
We also enjoyed our lunch of shrimp with linguini and rack of lamb.
I would definately stay here again
Spent the most amazing 4 nights in De Sol with my husband. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a pool villa that was absolutely spectacular! I’d come here again and again. The location is perfect, the food is great and the service is top notch! Cheers to Maria, she was a saint and made our trip all the more special. We selected this hotel to celebrate our twins graduation. Stunningly beautiful location, beautiful rooms and attentive staff. The hotel is only a couple of years old and appears brand new. The pools on the property would make for a magazine cover promoting the area. t looked great online but is even better.
PROS: The staff at this hotel are great and clearly want to go the extra mile for their guests. When our first room (#206) proved to be too noisy — the front door faces the busy highway and we could hear the family next door through the walls — we were upgraded the next day to a really nice second-floor room near the pool (which by the way, is a lovely pool, with a surprisingly inexpensive bar). Everyone made the whole experience smooth and were never anything but polite, smiling and helpful.
Also, when you book, pay the few bucks extra for the daily breakfast. It's seriously grand: everything from simple granola to smoked pork, multiple cheeses, jams, scrambled eggs or omelettes, an almost ridiculously expansive selection of pastries... it's worth it.
De Sol was one of the more reasonably-priced full-service hotels we looked at — by Santorini standards, it's a good value for the money (probably 'cause you're not paying for up-close ocean views, though some rooms have views of the ocean in the distance).
CONS: The big one is location.
De Sol is located on a fairly drab section of highway south of Santorini's main town of Fira. Fira not only has its own sights, but seems to be one of the best spots to pick up buses or hiking trails to other parts of the island (including gorgeous Oia, which is an arduous but totally beautiful 3-hour hike north from Fira). We actually *wanted* a hotel away from the noise of Fira, so the location shoulda been fine — but turns out, De Sol is a little *too* far away. A half-hour walk, which in the heat of the Greek summer sun is really, really far. The hotel does provide free shuttles to Fira, but they are surprisingly infrequent (at least in the late-May "shoulder season" when we visited). As in, 3 or 4 hours apart. Meanwhile, there's no bus that runs past De Sol into Fira. So we often wound up paying for Santorini's super-expensive taxis to take us to and from town. We're talking 10 euros for a 5-minute ride.
I will say De Sol is a bit better located for a hike to the smaller, less touristy and old-world town of Pyrgos. If that's of interest, maybe this is an okay location for you. And if you're renting a vehicle, these problems are moot, and I'd just advise you to avoid the rooms facing the highway if noise is a thing for you.
My husband and I stayed at De Sol for two nights during our trip to Greece in late May. The room was so comfortable - lots of space, comfy bed, a private patio, huge bathroom - everything we could have wanted! The included breakfast was extensive and delicious, and every staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful. Loved it.
