How to Get There
After a few nights in Imerovigli, Carpe Diem was a wonderful reprieve from the camped caldera. This is a 10-suite, family-owned and run establishment, designed and built by one of the most prominent architect/engineers on Santorini. There is a hideaway, exclusive feel to the place, luxurious without being over the top or pretentious. The suites are spacious and private, the views are fantastic, offering sunrise and sunsets (I loved the alternative perspective of the island), and the service left nothing to be desired - personal, attentive and discrete - all the qualities of a 5-star luxury resort with the intimacy of a small BnB.
The amenities follow suit, Nespresso in-room, an iPhone available for our use during our stay, a small spa, and an excellent restaurant / bar. Little touches really put me over the top - like the fact that they immediately turned over our room once we arrived in the restaurant for breakfast, or the 10 minute welcome neck and shoulder massage upon check-in (and yes, we booked a full hour for later in our stay).
Recommend renting a car, though I'm certain they could arrange for all transport (really, anything you want) if needed. Location is ~15min drive from Thira or ~5min into Pyrgos. Parking is free.
My only regret is that we didn't stay longer! It was the most perfect way for us to end our 12 day trip in Greece and it's certainly on my list to return.
We have chosen Carpe Diem for our Honeymoon and had spent 7 days over there.
We really liked a warm welcome on our arrival day - a glass of Champagne , plate of warm pancakes and a 10min relaxing neck massage by their great therapist that the Owner proposed for us, as well as a personal guide tour to our suite.
The room was amazingly spacious and modern, as its described on the website - 120sq.m (including outside terrasa and the private pool). Sadly that The Sun never reached most of the private pools (that we also had) - they were all days in the shade, but with thermo-heated control and warm water.
The location of the hotel is what you call a real "hide-away", therefore it has a quiet surroundings. Its a great place to relax but if you expect to see the brand-cool Santorini views from the postcards - you should rent a car which will be available in 10min on request at the hotel reception and drive to other villages: FIra (15min), Imerovigli (20 min) and Oia (40 min).
Another "issue" with the location - its a strong wind that we couldnt expect to have. Local people told us its very usual "condition" for this place at the Pyrgos Hill where the hotel is located. So our Honeymoon days (4th-11th Oct) very much more windy and colder over there than when we took a car to explore other sunny parts of the island, like Fira and Oia.
The restaurant service and food at Carpe Diem can be improved a bit. Sometimes my omlete was too salty, and some tastes combination by Chef we found strange. So after the first night dinner at the hotel we decided to go out to other restaurants around Pyrgos village which has few restaurants and tavernas to offer a nice local food, just in 10min walk, by the way.
I would definitely recommend to try a SPA at Carpe Diem with Makrina - she knows "how to" do a great massage technic and a sweet person too.
Above all, Carpe Diem is a good choice to stay, and as we know - it was named as a Best Honeymoon Hotel in Europe just recently. But at the same time, we didnt see anything extra-ordinary about service during our stay as we informed the owner on arrival that this is our Honeymoon trip... yet, we received nothing as a sweet romantic surprise "for couple", or bottle of champagne/wine, at least.
When we first drove down the steep road to the hotel, we weren't really sure what we were going to see. Upon arrival, we knew we were at the right place! For 3 nights, we were treated to understated elegance. From the rooms, to the food, to the attention to detail (you are provided with a cell phone to use and take all over the island), to the attentive staff, Carpe Diem is a great choice!
My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic weeks stay at this beautiful hotel . I can not fault it.
The suites are huge and spotlessly clean with very large outdoor space and a lovely plunge pool. The views from every where in the hotel are amazing!
The staff could not do enough for you and the breakfast was fantastic.
We have visited many hotels and this has got to be one of our favourites
We've been coming to Carpe Diem every other year since 2018 and it's honestly one of those vacations that we look forward to each time we go back. We've never been disappointed, and although the faces may change, the service and quality never change. They are one of the best hotels that we've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Utterly perfect!
