How to Get There
This review is for the hotel only.
The room we stayed in was downstairs and it was comfortably sized with high ceilings and a nice shower (especially important after those sandy beach days!). The powerful AC and fan kept us very cool during the warm days. They provided beach towels too which were a huge plus!
Staff at the hotel were really wonderful and friendly. Always with bright cheerful smiles greeting us each day. They had great recommendations for restaurants and things to do/see in the area and were happy to make reservations for us. They also helped us with our rental car.
We arrived in the morning before check in time and were fortunate enough to be able to check in to the room early. The front desk also kindly held our baggage after we checked out.
I stayed for 6 nights at BijBlauw with my boyfriend and we just loved it! The Vitamin Sea room is very comfortable with a huge balcony with sea view. It is a perfect choice for couples.
Hotel is located near to nice restaurants and stores, walking distance from Punda and Queen Emma bridge.
All staff were very friendly and responsive, always ready to help.
Nice freshly renovated buildings located just next to caribbean sea. Hotel rooms divided in 2 different houses just next each other. This alike Boutique type hotel with shop and outside terrance, restaurant and bar. Very nice and helpful personal. If you are planning to spend you time in hotel/room this is NOT your place. Very good choice for "homebase" stay in Curacao, in walking distance (10-15min) to old-down, best restaurants, taxi, local bus stop. No parking ( easy or near)
We got room in 3th floor, good size bedroom, odd combination of dressing room toilet and shower. There is plenty of room but no storage space ( actually we didn't even need) only huge rustic industrial style rack for clothes. Very odd shower space with class wall to "bedroom" so no privacy in shower ( we didn't mind this) after 20 year marriage we have seen each other naked. Full body mirror, hair dryer, iron, coffee machine (capsulo-type).
Small fridge, TV ( I didn't even powered it on), ice cold private AC unit (loud) and sealing fan (loud). Best part was about 100sqm private balcony with sunbeds, chairs, table and sofa AND nice view to caribbean sea. Very good on-site restaurant.
Thinks that I didn't like, no soundproofing ( if you have bad luck), stairs are deep and narrow, as they are in +100 year old house (not so big issue) . There was carnival time and next house (bar) had beach party but music stopped at 22.
Our room WiFi was broken and we need to use "neighbor hotel" WiFi, it had coverage only in terrance. Swimming pool is extremely small. For beach life you need to do to e.g. Mambo beach (2 miles/4 km) local minibus drives there nonstop, bus stop (Bushalte) is about 50 meters from hotel. Local bus fare was 2USD/3NAF for person. Or got to bus station to Otrobanda take bus to some other beach, fare is 2,40 NAF.
So let me start off by saying that my initial impression was that I REALLY wanted to like this place. The aesthetic and vibe were very chic and inviting, as previous posters have already mentioned at length. Now because this is a true-to-form boutique hotel, the rooms aren’t uniform and tend to differ slightly, for the most part. So this review will be based primarily on the room during our stay, the recently renovated Vitamin Sea suite with the private ocean view terrace.
To be completely impartial for others looking at this property as a viable option, what it did offer in terms of visual appeal, it did falter occasionally in regards to functionality. For example, while the bed was extremely comfortable, it was outfitted solely with a single bedsheet and no blanket / duvet. Regardless of the climate and a functional a/c, it just struck us as kind of odd that a request would be required to have an optional duvet or bed-sized blanket nearby. Nevertheless, one was provided promptly once we decided it would be necessary.
Secondly, there was absolutely no storage space available in the room. No closet, no armoire, no unoccupied shelving. So if you’re an international traveler staying for any significant period of time, it’s obvious how this may pose a problem; you’ll be living out of your suitcase for the duration of your stay.
Also to keep in mind, despite the vast improvements and renovations, soundproofing might pose a problem given the possibility of having unfavourable neighbours. We could hear every door slam from the adjacent room and footsteps from the room above us, albeit neither posed much of a problem during our stay. Just some food for thought.
And lastly, our in-room fridge required service for the first three days, but was finally rectified and complimentary breakfast provided as an offering for the remainder of our stay.
As per recent posters’ complaints, TV’s were still inoperable as recently as the final day of our stay, February 21st. Alternatively, we used our iPad which was more than sufficient.
The aforementioned aside, I would confidently award the property a solid 4.5 / 5 if TA allowed half star ratings. The owners / operators obviously take guest suggestions to heart and improvements are continuously ongoing (as per recent TA guest complaints, our room had a full length mirror, hair dryer, wifi functioned properly throughout, staff were approachable and courteous etc).
A very solid choice as anyone’s home base for their stay in Curaçao, with an abundance of social media appeal. A plethora of trendy and top rated restaurants within a few minutes walking distance and located in the awesome neighbourhood of Pietermaai. It won’t disappoint.
If you are looking to have a pampered vacation of relaxation, beaches, wine, dine, sun, and fun, feel pampered, and have your needs attended to, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. I was attracted to the hotel by the pics which exuded a hipster ambience and it did have that. But the pics did not show that there was NOT A BEACH, there was no room service, NO PARKING, no mini bar, no bottled water in the room. There was no dedicated staff at the front office.
When we wanted beach towels for day we had to search the hotel to find a staff member to help us. HOSPITALITY as a concept not present at this hotel. Amenities ? NONE .
In addition, our TV did not work the entire time we were there, and there was no soap or shampoo dispenser in our shower until the third day . To try to compensate for NO TV they offered us a 2 Bedroom suite with a living room TV overlooking the restaurant and beach. We were a couple , We didn't want a 2 bedroom suite that overlooked the restaurant . We did not want to spend our time packing and unpacking for a room overlooked a restaurant tho it was much more accommodating on the inside .
On our first night, weary from our long journey we wanted to eat in our hotel restaurant and we were asked to get up from the table so that they could accommodate a non hotel guest who " reserved " our table .
We did not feel welcome. No welcome drink served us . A hurried check in . A staff person who when we asked for suggestions for where to eat, told us to "Google it and read the reviews" . No bellman and how could we ask a cute young woman to help us with our suitcases. OH AND DID I SAY THE COSY ROOM WITH A TERRACE IS UP 24 STEPS.
The hotel did have some cute design but it was all veneer . The food was average, and well plated. The room was small and looked rough but cute flourishes. The bathroom was new stylish an spacious. The clothing sold on site was cute.
Staying at this hotel was like staying in a hostel in terms of services .
The bed was comfortable . The room was very small . Hard to Unpack. Our outdoor space looked unfinished with half the floor having decking and the other half raw concrete .
We did have a decent view (hardly a sweeping panorama )
The locations was good for walks to dinner.
There was one lovely woman who worked there who did offer us some assistance .
