Barefoot Caribbean elegance with a touch of Southeast Asian style

The Lowdown

Offering an Asian vibe in the Dutch Antilles, Baoase offers a welcome alternative from the standard Caribbean resort. The owners set out to bring back barefoot elegance and they succeeded—the fine dining restaurant is right on the beach, letting guests feast on gourmet fare and French wines with their toes in the sand. Many of the villas and suites have private pools, while the simplest rooms are just as lovely, with stone bathrooms (some of them outdoor) and silk bedding. There’s no spa, but a range of wellbeing services are offered in villas and suites or right on the beach.

In the Area

Baoase’s in-house tour guide takes guests on cruises and day trips to explore the main island and Klein Curacao (Little Curacao), on countryside tours to ostrich and aloe farms, secret caves, museums and art galleries, and to the historic inner city and harbor of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Watersports include scuba diving (there’s an instructor on-site), jet skiing, deep sea fishing, surfing, and swimming with dolphins at the Dolphin Academy. The island is also home to two scenic and challenging golf courses, Old Quarry and Blue Bay.

Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Personalized and excellent service from day 1 to the end was most unexpected and created an experience to remember for a lifetime. We felt like royalty when we arrived at a surprise upgrade when we arrived in room 301. But when they went out of their way to surpass our sense of what royalty felt like when they moved us to Villa 208 - we were overwhelmed. The people who serve the customers at Baoase are not just employees - they are kind and loving people who treat you like friends - from the front desk, to the beach butlers, to the amazing food and bar staff to the Chef. They saw to our ever need from my picky food likes to arranging our taxi rides the 2 times we even thought about leaving the resort - which actually looking back - would not even consider leaving - as nothing exists outside their walls that can compare with what they have to offer - paradise. Thank you Baoase for making our 50th a trip of a lifetime and one I will remember forever! Their restaurant was tops not only in food and service, but the views are undescribable. The snorkeling, floating in the beautiful lagoon, and the saltwater pool were beyond what I expected. We have stayed in some of the top caribbean resorts and this is my new #1!!!

Don't even hesitate to go and enjoy this paradise - there was absolutely nothing that I can say was not absolutely perfect - except there was not enough time for me to enjoy the company of the staff and surroundings and thank them enough for all they do for their guests!

Why the earplugs in the rooms?!?? Dogs & Music.
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Just returned from a week at the property. While the property itself is lovely it’s location in the heart of a Curaçao neighborhood meant that all night long you could hear the incessant barking of dogs right outside & loud neighborhood music. I wasn’t sure why they had earplugs in your room now I know why. Unless you are a heavy sleeper, love to hear dogs barking all night long or roaring neighborhood music I’d take a pass at staying here. It’s also not that great of an area to feel comfortable walking over to the nearby restaurants like Ginger and Bizarro Cubano bar. Needless to say I was very disappointed I had to wear earplugs every night on my vacation which still didn’t help much. For this kind of money I’d consider looking at other options for your stay in Curaçao.

If I could give Baoase more stars I would! We were fortunate enough to get trapped by a Midwest snowstorm and get to stay 10 nights instead of the planned 8. Poor us!
This is a beautiful resort we will return to, leaving only for occasional dinners in some of the superb local restaurants. We’ve stayed in fine places throughout the Caribbean, US, Hawaii and UK- this beats them all.
Facilities are lovely, service is top notch, food is wonderful.
Not cheap at all but worth it.

Good resort, GREAT employees, good but overpriced food

I travel the world for diving and luxury resorts. Baoase is no doubt a nice resort and I cannot express my satisfaction with how great the staff was. I thought long and hard about my review for them before posting it.
Here ya go. They pride themselves on how the owners built Villas for the kids, an island for the wife Bla, Bla, Bla!!! Who cares about the owners! When you pay what it cost to stay here, the only thing this resort should boast about is how good they are going to take care of you, the guest. Let’s be clear here. There are no ocean view Villas that I saw. I am very certain that the owners bungalo has one as it should bc it’s their resort. My wife booked this resort and it clearly said, “Ocean Front Villa”, but we got a garden view with a swim up pool, which is nice.
Rooms are nice and clean. In room entertainment is below average at best. Villas are very comfortable and I slept great.
Staff was just awesome. I loved everything about them all.
Food was good but very over priced. RIDICULOUSLY overpriced! That was my biggest dissapointment and sole purpose for only 3 stars. I’ve stayed in some of the nicest resorts in the world in the Maldives, Seychelles and French Polynesians and their food was not even close to the food prices here. Quite frankly, it made me very angry.
Beach area is manmade but very nice. Loved the lagoon affect. Pool was nice. View was nice.
Would I stay here again, ehhh if it wasn’t for the great employees probably not.
Didnt really enjoy the checkout process as I was charged a percentage for them just calling a rental car company for me to meet with. It just gave me the overall sense that they were nickel and dining me to death.
This is a nice resort and the owners should probably re-evaluate a few things before I would give it a perfect score.

Excellent Resort

My wife and I chose to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with Baoase Luxury Resort after being highly recommended to us by a friend who had recently stayed there with his wife. Baoase uses the word “luxury” in their name and they do nothing short on delivering just that. From the service at arrival, to the rooms, the resort grounds, restaurant and everything in between it is luxury. From the moment we arrived, into Curaçaos to our departure, they worked to give us the experience we were looking to have. And they delivered. I would highly recommend Baoase as a must visit. I’m sure we will be back.

I highly recommend the “Luxury Arrival Package”. Baoase will arrange to have someone meet you as you come off the plane ramp and walk you directly through customs to a car to take you to the resort. It took us 6 minutes (six) from the time we got off the plane until we were at the car. Granted we did travel with only carry on luggage but we skipped the lines and went directly to the front in customs. It’s only about a 15 minute ride from the airport to Baoase.

The resort is absolutely beautiful, secluded around a lagoon. It is small and quaint with spectacular views of the ocean and lots of privacy, which I found really nice and relaxing.

Our suite was spacious, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Our suite had a private pool and jacuzzi situated on the ocean and surrounded by a privacy fence. The shower and tub are outdoors, which I thought was very cool. Don’t worry it’s secluded with a solid privacy wall. There is something erotic about showering outside with the tropical trees above while listening to the birds.

My wife and I travel a bit and have stayed at numerous resorts. One of the things that is memorable to us about a resort is the quality of the food. We are both foodies. Baoase has by far the best food of any resort we have ever stayed. Every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) was excellent. So good that we never left to eat anywhere else. If your a foodie, this is the place for you.

The workout facility is a tiny gym/facility located across the street. Not much to it. Only 1 of the 2 treadmills were working and there was not much equipment and what they did have was rather used.

Snorkeling right outside the lagoon is quite good. There is lots of sea life to see. They have snorkeling gear that you can use but If you enjoy snorkeling, I would suggest you bring your own as the quality of theirs is not so good. I brought my own mask and snorkel and used their fins. They have 2 good pair of fins.

The beach service is nice with lots of private gazebos and comfortable cushion chairs. They have a “flavor of they day” and bring you drinks with that flavor and fruit during the day. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

This is an awesome place. Highly recommend it!
