Barefoot Caribbean elegance with a touch of Southeast Asian style
Offering an Asian vibe in the Dutch Antilles, Baoase offers a welcome alternative from the standard Caribbean resort. The owners set out to bring back barefoot elegance and they succeeded—the fine dining restaurant is right on the beach, letting guests feast on gourmet fare and French wines with their toes in the sand. Many of the villas and suites have private pools, while the simplest rooms are just as lovely, with stone bathrooms (some of them outdoor) and silk bedding. There’s no spa, but a range of wellbeing services are offered in villas and suites or right on the beach.
In the Area
Baoase’s in-house tour guide takes guests on cruises and day trips to explore the main island and Klein Curacao (Little Curacao), on countryside tours to ostrich and aloe farms, secret caves, museums and art galleries, and to the historic inner city and harbor of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Watersports include scuba diving (there’s an instructor on-site), jet skiing, deep sea fishing, surfing, and swimming with dolphins at the Dolphin Academy. The island is also home to two scenic and challenging golf courses, Old Quarry and Blue Bay.
How to Get There
Baoase has ruined me for all other hotels. It's the equivalent of flying first class and then trying to go back to coach. I cannot say enough about this hidden paradise in Curacao. The food, service, rooms, and staff are all incredible. I would go back there in a heartbeat. I knew nothing about it when I stumbled upon Baoase looking for a romantic and private destination in the Caribbean to propose. Boy did I luck out. It was the greatest trip of our lives. We didn't want to leave. The staff and resort exceeded all expectations. They do it right. It truly feels like you're on your own private island. Thank you Baoase! We will be back.
We were looking for an escape around the same time last year and saw Baoase but there was no availability so when I saw Baoase again this year l jumped on the reservation. We stayed three nights four days. I suspect people will be uniform in their praise for Baoase so its hard to add anything different or insightful other than to say they do it so well it makes it hard to leave the resort. The weather was mostly sunny and hot! The accommodation, which is somewhat masculine in its decor (let's call it handsome) is luxe and exotic, with dark wood floors and ornately carved furniture. Two spacious closets, his and hers on either side of the room -- and a private walk-out deck with large dining table, lounge chairs, hot tub, and sitting area overlooking the ocean. his and her. We never heard a "no" to anything we asked as staff aims to please. From the manager to the kitchen staff, servers or the beach crew, every member of the Baoase team delivered outstanding service. We had wonderful conversations with many of them including Enzo, Kadisha and Kevin at the bar who makes a wonderful gin martini to order. We definitely recommend this place. Go and enjoy!
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Baoase. Our stay exceeded my expectations. The setting was incredible - like being in national park on the ocean, on a beautiful island (within an actual island). Our kids enjoyed exploring nature on the resort (kayaking, snorkeling, observing crabs, iguanas and geckos- we even saw dolphins swimming by), while we enjoyed giving them autonomy to explore within a semi-contained space that was safe, meticulously designed and amazing to behold. The staff really sets this resort apart - I can't say enough wonderful things about their service, and pleasant disposition. The food was very good, and the restaurant staff always accommodated us, even when our eating habits didn't align with the restaurant's set hours for meals. We stayed in a loft suite, that was very well appointed, while offering us privacy from our children. The suite came with its own outdoor kitchen and living space - a great luxury. Additionally, the staff set us up with a wonderful tour/tour guide (Carlos), which allowed us to explore the west side of the island and swim with sea turtles (a truly memorable experience) and eat at a local, traditional restaurant. If you are going to Curacao, and you can afford Baoase (even for a few days), I highly recommend you do so.
