Overview

Barefoot Caribbean elegance with a touch of Southeast Asian style

The Lowdown

Offering an Asian vibe in the Dutch Antilles, Baoase offers a welcome alternative from the standard Caribbean resort. The owners set out to bring back barefoot elegance and they succeeded—the fine dining restaurant is right on the beach, letting guests feast on gourmet fare and French wines with their toes in the sand. Many of the villas and suites have private pools, while the simplest rooms are just as lovely, with stone bathrooms (some of them outdoor) and silk bedding. There’s no spa, but a range of wellbeing services are offered in villas and suites or right on the beach.

In the Area

Baoase’s in-house tour guide takes guests on cruises and day trips to explore the main island and Klein Curacao (Little Curacao), on countryside tours to ostrich and aloe farms, secret caves, museums and art galleries, and to the historic inner city and harbor of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Watersports include scuba diving (there’s an instructor on-site), jet skiing, deep sea fishing, surfing, and swimming with dolphins at the Dolphin Academy. The island is also home to two scenic and challenging golf courses, Old Quarry and Blue Bay.

Everything your heart desires!
Reviewed 1 week ago

I stayed at Baoase for ten days and it was just WOOOW! I was in many beautiful five star resorts in my life before and have quite high standards, but when I arrived at Baoase I was just blown away by the beauty of the resort, it is truly unique!
I was welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink and got a wonderful tour around the resort from a super kind staff member. Everything is just perfect and the resort has so many wonderful things to offer. You can really see that everything is made with so much love for the detail. I came to stay at Baoase to just take a time off and it was one of the best decisions: I had a breathtaking suite with sea view, wonderful massages, enjoyed the tranqulity of their private beach, had delicious food and good conversations with the staff, which was always very obliging. They also booked some beautiful tours on the island for me. Everyone just wanted to make my stay perfect! They also have a lovely boutique with many nice beach dresses, jewelry, swimwear, etc. so I could buy myself and my beloved ones at home some fashionable souvenirs.
So as you can see I would 100% recommend Baoase for some relaxing days on Curacao with everything your heart desires. I already booked my next stay and can't wait to be back at this idyllic piece of earth!

Amazing trip I won't forget! Beautiful resort and very friendly people

Staying here was amazing! Our villa in the resort was perfect from the private pool to speakers throughout the house, I would have lived there! The resort was extremely helpful in setting up boat trips, ATV rides, and more at very quick notice. I looked forward to eating the food there each day, it was well thought out and delicious. I plan on coming here again!

A Work of Art

Some places create a mood, sustain a feeling, suggest possibilities. At Baoase every walkway, light, even every rock was placed with an artistic sensibility. The resort exudes beauty and calm. You hear soft music, sighing palms, lapping waves, or a fountain gently splashing. The staff is kindly observant: they take professional and personal interest in helping you find relaxation and enjoyment. You can release your cares and worries and allow yourself to be seduced by the beauty that surrounds you.

Umbrellas and soft outdoor recliners create little private enclaves by the beach, under a gazebo, or in a small stand of palm trees. The bar is well-stocked. There are chairs waiting for you and a smile to greet you as you choose a drink. If you want to snorkel around the main cove or in the open sea, mask and fins are there for you.

We had the good fortune of having one of the newer suites. So in addition, we had a private beach, our own meandering pool, and a refrigerator filled with wines, beers, and other delicacies. It is so freeing to be able to lie on a beautiful beach in complete privacy. When that was followed by a bath or shower under the palm trees, we felt like we had wandered into paradise.

We had wondeful meals. The breakfast was sumptuous. We usually skipped lunch because we weren’t hungry. The dinners often had themes: asian night, barbecue, lobster. Because I’m vegetarian, the chef came around to talk with us and plan our dinners. The results ranged from delicious to spectacular. The restaurant staff already knew our preferences, allergies, restrictions so we could just trust in their discretion. If you have time constraints, I would suggest mentioning that to your waiter because the default is a long, unhurried, leisurely experience.

There was wonderful live music during our dinners. One night featured a saxophonist playing beautifully, accompanied by background music. Some guests danced at their tables or with him while he played. Another duo sang lovely soul and r&b standards, sometimes in a well-controlled falsetto while accompanying themselves on guitar, drum and muted trumpet, though there was no trumpet in evidence.

Baoase has a mixture of Curaçaoan and Dutch staff. There is an unmistakable sweetness of manner. At first we thought that must be the result of policy or training, but we encountered that same sweetness wherever we wandered on the island. It makes for a wonderful combination: extreme thoroughness and competence delivered in a sweet and kindly way. Our mantra became “They will know a way.” For anything we wanted to do, the staff had a solution, typically better than anything we would have come up with on our own.

If you have read this far, you know why we will have given Baoase top ratings across the board. The name is the initials of the two founders plus “oase”, oasis in dutch. They truly have created a wonderful oasis. We left in a state of bliss.

Amazing resort

I came here for my 18th birthday with my friend and we had an amazing time. The resort set up very fun activities like ATV riding and visiting Klein curacao for a day. The staff was always helpful and easily accessible. The villa was very private and clean and we even had our own pool. The rooms were very nice and the AC worked very well. The resort is very beautiful and has a nice beach and restaurant. The service and experience overall was very good, definitely worth checking out.

Beautiful place and amazing service

We loved our stay at the resort. It is even more beautiful than shown in the photos. The rooms are amazing and the service is first-class. We look forward to returning soon. We particularly loved the bedroom which included an outdoor area and private pool, as well as an outdoor shower.

The food was excellent and it offered good variety.
