Beautiful resort and ideal location

The oldest resort on the island (70 years), Avila is a charming and welcoming home base for your Curaçao adventure!
We stayed in the ocean front blues wing. Lovely room with balcony on the sea. Great choice to hear the waves outside. Ask for a room facing away from the resort if you want a more peaceful experience. Towards the resort faces the property beaches, which are nice but can be loud some evenings.

They are going through some upgrades and improvements to the property, which is understandable and necessary. That being said, ask before you book. We were given one story by the resort and another by expedia - very different. Both insisted they told us of the construction before booking. Neither had. It wasn’t that bad for us as we had rented a car and left the resort most days after breakfast, returning in the late afternoon when construction was winding down. But had we wanted a relaxing beach resort vacation we would have been rather unhappy! They were redoing the pool and it was quite noisy. Our room front door had a deadbolt but it didn’t work.

We tried each restaurant once and that was plenty. The bbq night was delicious! There are great restaurants a short walk away. Do some investigating. Breakfast buffet daily was adequate at Avila.

For the most part the staff were all very friendly and welcoming! the gift shop staff, housekeeping, and restaurant staff were always friendly and very helpful!

Felt dismissed easily by the front desk a couple of times so didn’t bother trying again. Sometimes you just have to enjoy your beautiful surroundings and let some things go!

The beaches on site are small but mostly nicely kept. Good for snorkeling and relaxing (when there is no construction).

We stayed ten days and would return and recommend.

This was our 2nd time at Avila (with 4 years in between visits) We were once again, very happy with our stay.
The staff are all so great and friendly and accommodating. Upon arrival we were put in a ground floor room, that we were not so happy with (although the room it’s self was immaculate) - so the next day, we were put on a higher level (3rd floor) and very happy with the room and view. There was a (very minor) issue with our air conditioner, but it was fixed within minutes of calling the front desk. The room was perfect, and cleaning staff kept it well maintained and tidy. The hotel and grounds of Avila are immaculate.
The dining room (breakfast staff) were particularly lovely and helpful. Special thanks to Brian for being accommodating, and to Emilel for making amazing omelettes with a smile every day. Carina was also sweet and made sure we were well taken care of at breakfast.
Curaçao is a wonderful and beautiful place with special people...make only better by the Avila Beach Hotel.

Beautiful beach and location

We stayed for 4 nights in a Blueswing room, top floor, that had great sunset views and it was relaxing on the small deck watching boats go by and cruise ships come into the downtown harbour. We would sometimes get a whiff of sewer-ish smell when on our deck - not sure where coming from and front desk had no idea or concern. A troop of small iguana's and crabs hang out on seaside wall by the ocean front rooms waiting for fresh hand-outs. Room was large but not laid out very well - others can see into your room off their deck and vice versa. The bathroom had two sinks but no counter space. Room service was quite good (a nice note and tip go a long way) but otherwise customer service was very average, along with the food.
Very limited beach service, and there are the usual rude people who come at 7 a.m. to put their book/towels on the best beach chairs/palapas, then go back to bed, showing up at 11:00 a.m. - the hotel doesn't condone this (signage), but they don't police it either - we would give people an hour+ to show up and if no show, we would gently re-locate their goodies to another area if we needed the shade of one of the limited palapas. Great snorkeling just outside the enclosed hotel beach and little schools of fish do come into the beach area - great fun for kids. The grounds and pool are quite nice and well kept up, but over-all we have to just give this hotel an average rating, with the view of the price paid did not match the service/food/amenities given.
Hotel is in great location for walking into Punda/Otrobanda, as well as many nice small speciality restaurants. You can walk to Mambo beach (20-30 min) or take the local mini-bus that goes up/down the area ($3). There are also a couple grocery stores close by where you can stock up on drinks, food etc. Not advisable to be out walking after 11 p.m. at night - best to take a taxi (expensive) or drive your own vehicle.

Fantastic Destination . . . and Still Getting Better

The Avila Beach Hotel is a fantastic hotel with a superb, scenic location. This makes for a fabulous, relaxing beach vacation. My review is based on my recent 9-day stay, my fourth visit to this hotel since 2015.

The relatively new ownership of three-plus years, the Vogels family, continue to make significant upgrades to the hotel. The Blues Wing rooms were remodeled a couple of years ago, but improvements continue to be made to these rooms (such as grab bars and new soap trays in the showers). Rooms in the other hotel buildings, in turn, have gone, or will undergo, renovation.

There were also numerous improvements throughout the hotel property. There was new and improved lighting on the hotel grounds, especially noticeable on the Blues Wing pier. A number of comfortable chairs and couches have been added to the property, especially to the patio above the bar. The beach continues to be upgraded, such as new wooden cabanas to provide more shade. Perhaps best of all, the bottoms of the lagoons inside the breakwaters were cleaned out (reducing much of the algae). There are now literally thousands of fish in the lagoons, making for great snorkeling for beginners.

Service from the hotel staff is also improving. The housekeeping staff has improved, aided by better supervision. The waitstaff at The Pen restaurant was attentive, unlike prior experiences. And, like my recent visits, the hotel general manager is quite approachable and genuinely wants to hear from the hotel guests as to what to do better.

Beautiful location with hotels own beaches Clean although few facilities not available such as spa customer service in some parts of the hotel need a lot of improvement when choosing a location for Curacao we took a long time in deciding and we decided to try this hotel Its expensive for the service and facilities they provide and as mentioned Customer Service/client relations needs a huge improvement specifically in the Food and Beverage section where they are not only paid but tipped to provide excellent service We ate away from location lots of excellent places local that where happy to provide a relaxing welcoming environment and variety of menu
