How to Get There
We spent a week here while in Curacao. We had a superior octagon room and it was perfect for two. We were given a room on the top floor with a beautiful balcony view of the beach. This hotel has the charm of Curacao in that it is an original and not a typical chain hotel. The hotel has a beautiful palm lined beach area, infinity pool, onsite restaurants and a great concierge who really helps with any questions. The beach is private and chairs and towels are provided. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are heading for Curacao. Thanks Avila for a wonderful stay!
This hotel is remarkable. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and she was amazed. The ambiance is great the staff is extremely helpful and welcoming. I have no complaints about this hotel.
Will be returning again.
The first thing I noticed about this beautiful beachfront resort was that I couldn't enjoy it. I woke up and made some coffee (available in the room, which is nice) and went out on my ocean-front balcony to enjoy it. Only to find out that my neighbor was out smoking, so I had to go back inside. There are no designated smoking areas on the property, so people are smoking at the bar, the pool, and even on the beach. It's unavoidable.
Second disappointment was the Blues room. We actually switched rooms twice during the week just so we could get some time in one of these because everyone says you HAVE to stay in one. Really not worth it, imo. You can walk out to that balcony even if you're not staying in one of the rooms. And if you're on the first floor, you'll hear every step your neighbors take above you.
Third major issue I had with this hotel - the worst situation I have ever experienced while traveling. I was woken up at 5am on a Wednesday morning to some very loud sound that sounded like a lawn mower right outside our door. I had no idea what it was, and was scared, so I woke my boyfriend up. He opened the door to find smoke. We immediately thought the noise was some kind of alarm, and the smoke was from a fire. We grabbed a couple things and started running towards the front desk. Only to be told - in an incredibly condescending way - that it was the mosquito foggers and we should have known because it was indicated in our welcome packet.
Yes, it does say that they fog for mosquitoes. But no one told us what it would look or sound like. And we shouldn't leave our rooms at that time. While we were in a panic trying to figure it out, we inhaled God knows what kind of chemicals. My biggest issue with this was that IT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED!!! Why not just communicate that to guests upon arrival!? Major fail.
Also - THEY RAN OUT OF TEQUILA.
I would still say it's average, comparatively. It's a good location. Breakfast is great. Other meals were hit or miss. The rooms are nice, spacious, and clean. The property is beautiful. The gym was great. Girainy, one of the bartenders, was the most welcoming, friendly, efficient person we interacted with during our stay. I probably would not choose to stay here again if back in Curacao, due to our personal experience.
We stayed 4 nights at Avila over Thanksgiving. The rooms were clean, the lagoons were nice, the food was good, and the service was excellent. This is a great hotel for a quiet escape! The restaurants near the hotel are also good, and it was convenient to have Budget car rentals in the lobby.
My daughter and my son-in-law held their wedding ceremony, dinner, reception, party & day after brunch at the Avila Beach Hotel November 17th and 18th, 2018. It was spectacular! The Avila staff was so, so accommodating! Farley, Robbin, Zatessa, Germaine, Brian, etc. were the best! All of the front desk staff & restaurant staff & support staff at the Avila were wonderful! We couldn't have asked for a better venue. The food was great! The rooms were great! The Avila Beach Hotel went above and beyond! Our guests came from mostly Brazil and the United States, and the Avila Beach staff was amazing with all! Can't thank you all enough! Thank you for making this a very positively memorable week for all of us!
