Restored Venetian mansion with a secluded courtyard and pool in the medieval harbor town of Rethymno
Flanked by cobbled streets in the medieval harbor town of Rethymno, Palazzo Rimondi is a beautifully restored Venetian mansion dating from the 15th century. A soaring arch entwined with sweet-smelling jasmine flowers gives way to a secluded courtyard and plunge pool decorated with black and white mosaics. Renovated in 2012, the property has retained plenty of Old World charm; it features medieval furnishings, traditional Cretan wood carvings and glittering chandeliers.
Bed and Bath
Guestrooms are clad in stone and have lofty ceilings and large picture windows. Some have traditional detailing, such as medieval arches and beam ceilings, and all feature small kitchenettes with a stove and fridge. Double Rooms have living areas and bedrooms (some with a mezzanine floor overlooking the courtyard pool). Many of the Superior Suites come with private balconies and terraces, and the larger Deluxe Suites have lounge areas equipped with a dining table, and mezzanine bedrooms leading to a private balcony with views of Rethymno's harbor. Bathrooms are stocked with products from luxe Greek brand, Korres.
The petite terrace is a Grecian sun trap, though you'll have to venture downstairs to the courtyard plunge pool to cool off. The Palazzo pool bar serves breakfast in the morning, light snacks throughout the day and cocktails after dark. There's no restaurant on-site, but Rethymno is a warren of cobbled streets lined with traditional tavernas and lively bars, and Palazzo Rimondi puts you in the beating heart of it all.
