How to Get There
I wanted more than ever to be able to give a glowing review but i just cant.
Aesthetically the hotel grounds and room are 5*, truly stunning. So clean and room was beautiful and housekeeping excellent.
Its the staff and amenties that let it down for me. Except the reception staff (vanessa in particular) they were very friendly and helpful!!
Firstly the car parking is all over the place. Some spots at front then a measly "2nd" carpark with cars dumped everywhere in no designated spaces. I struggled to get out due to a jeep dumping his car not in a carspot (this needs to be monitored) and need proper lined spaces for this number 2 car park. The third car Park is full of stones and quite a walk. I had hurt my foot so found when i had to park in that far carpark a long walk.
The dining options are not great. First A Bell Tower "fine dining" restuarent ( I didnt eat here so can't comment on it)
An Italian (very lovely staff) but the food and menu is extremely mediocre
A bar that only serves food until 6.30
I got a lunch included in a spa deal which was soup of the day and a sandwich (broccoli soup I couldnt eat and when i told the girl i couldnt eat it I wasnt giving another option) the sandwich was so small and was like something a child put together. Tea and coffee then which obviously was fine and you cant go much wrong with that! Poor lunch as part of Ms Quinns Deal
Spa is not 5* standard compared to any other 5* spa hotel I have stayed in. Just one vitality pool two relaxtion rooms and then steam and sauna. My facial and massage was however very lovely and the treatment was very good by Walter.
Also it claims on the hotel website on the under monthly spa deals that there is 20% of ESPA body products. When i asked the spa reception this they said no that doesn't exist and I felt quite silly. I did not like the attitude from them like I was lying or chancing my arm in making something up. It clearly says on monthly spa offers that there is 20% off but i was told no and brushed off.
If you didnt want a fancy expensive dinner in bell tower or the italian you can only get food in the knights bar until 6.30. This should be extended because very fine dining or italian isnt an option for everyone and during the week there is no where to eat in castlemarytr town (Thurs-sunday restuarent only)
Next issue is staff shortages, in both the italian restuarent and breakfast. When i was in the italian there were only 2 staff working to a near full restuarent (rachel and another blond lady) these 2 staff members were dealing with a near full restaurant. Orders. Checking people to their tables. Phone ringing and many people's requests. This led to delays which was beyond their control and they were excellent in doing what they could but only 2 staff is not right or fair on them as staff or the customers.
Same with breakfast very little staff and having to wait quite a long time for an order and had to ask twice for tea as it was forgotton. Again , the little staff that were there were doing their best but its quite poor.
All in all I would not stay here again. The hotel grounds, interior and rooms are beautiful but the service and amenities are only average for the price and compared to other 5* hotels even 4* were better.
I am quite dissapointed but I really hope these issues will be addresssd.
If the manager would like to send me his email, i would be happy to comment further.
I really wish i had got the experience others have had.
It’s nearly a month since we got married here. Our Guests are still raving about the place in particular the rooms. Brilliant and relaxed atmosphere/experience. It’s a high end establishment without being snobby which is just perfect. The staff make it happen along with fantastic food and also the art scattered throughout the building. The golf course is also premium. The main bar (Knights) is fabulous. Don’t change a thing. 5 star all day long. Thank you all.

Once you enter the gates of Castlemartyr, you know you're somewhere special. But it's the staff that really give you the 5 star feels! Our welcome from Vanessa was warm, courteous and very helpful. Our room was beautiful and spacious. We ate in the Italian restaurant called Franchini's. Food was gorgeous, but again service was excellent. Thank you Rachel.
I availed of the spa and what a treat. My therapist was amazing.
We would hope to visit here again definitely.
