How to Get There
The hotel is situated in 25 km from Cork. It will cost nearly 30 EUR to get to the city on a taxi. Hotel has wonderful territory for walking. Good gym and pool. Rooms are big, new. Delicious meal in restaurants, wonderful waiters! Full Irish breakfast is excellent! Great staff! Special thanks to Trevor, his understanding and readiness to help with all our requests were very helpful! 3 nights we stayed at this hotel were courageous! It’s a real spirit of Ireland. There were 10 people in our group. All of us are sure that rooms, renovations and services here are excellent.
We stayed in September/October last year, and stayed in a junior suite. The room, restaurant and golf course were highlights, but there were a few small issues which let the hotel down, the curtains were damaged, we asked someone to look and were told it was fixed but they were not, we had a small issue with lunch but it was managed by the team suitably, I was put on a waiting list for treatments and never contacted again, overall space to sit and relax is also quite scarce. We did have a very big concern on checkout, our 2 nights with dinner stay was settled in full on day one, we also ate/drank mostly in the golf club and paid per transaction, therefore just wine with prepaid dinner and a round of drinks remained. I had estimated the cost at approx. 80 euro. We were presented with a bill of almost 500 Euro, we spent the next 15 to 20 minutes resolving the issue. We were charged ~ 100 Euro for dinner, on the same night we availed of an inclusive dinner deal in the restaurant - no docket and no signature as it was not our cheque, second to that though my partner's card was charged something in the region of 683 Euro on day one, the charge entered against the room on another system was 386 - leaving another error on the bill which staff did not notice nor could the girl resolve. We produced the receipt for the 600+ charge, and a manager was called, we had to go through everything again, kept having to insist that we knew what we owed but the manager knew better - we had to re-produce the receipt a second time while a copy was taken, and finally the discovery that we were correct and a charge of just over 80 Euro was remaining. We paid in full, and left with a long queue behind us, it was uncomfortable and embarrassing. We did raise the issue to the manager who sent a half hearted response saying they would speak to us on our next stay and see if they could do something. We never followed up, however just 3 weeks ago I attended a company conference, and on entering the hotel early that morning and going to reception to see which room we were in, there was a guest with the exact same issue, going through receipts and explaining how they couldn't owe the balance produced. It seems no lessons were learned, I left after over 5 minutes of their debate and found the room myself.
I have never seen such debate over bills in any other hotel I have stayed in, neither home or abroad, from B&B's to 3/4/5 star. It's not acceptable.
We stayed in castlemartyr for two nights. From begin to end we were completely relaxed. We had booked in for bed and breakfast for both nights, however we had to leave very early due to work commitments after our second night and miss breakfast. On checking out we were given a fantastic, checkout, breakfast to go for our journey. The attention to detail is second to none in this resort and I would highly recommend it.
Our fifth visit to this excellent hotel.The staff at the front desk are the first to put the traveller at ease.The rooms are large,and comfortable.Tea and coffee making is supplied.The bar is quiet and relaxing,and service is first class.The grounds have walking routes,and theres a very good golf course.The pool and gym are very well equipped.Two resteraunts The Tower room and franchini's are both perfectly run,with the food being wonderfull.I can recommend this hotel that really lives up to its 5 star rating..Looking forward to my sixth visit soon.
We had a bit of a disaster of a stay in the Mary orough for our first night away on our own since we had a new baby, so our babysitter kindly gave us another go. We couldn’t have selected better than the Castlemartyr.
We booked it on an offer and there was credit towards afternoon tea- it was fabulous from start to finish ( I’m not sure I would pay full price for the afternoon tea though but then everyone has different priorities )
There is an online concierge experience that allows you to book your spa, afternoon tea etc, I haven’t seen other hotels offer this, it’s a great tool.
It was a pleasure to deal with Staff from checkin, room service, breakfast and checkout
The rooms were really lovely and spacious, gorgeous dressing are and bathroom.
Food was superb
We used the spa and thermal suites and it was lovely
I’ve stayed in 2 5 star hotels since and this is the one I would definitely return to
