The charming and unassuming Hotel Le Challonge lies at the crossroads of many famous Brittany attractions, in the heart of the historic medieval town of Dinan – regarded as the region’s prettiest. The hotel is the oldest in town, with a history of hospitality dating back to the early 19th century. There’s plenty of local colour in view, as you’re right on the famous Du Guesclin Square, with its famous statue and regular market.
The town is a maze of half-timbered houses, art galleries and craft shops, and the bustling port down on the river is a lively hub. From here you can take a boat to the coastal town of St Malo, and visit Mont Saint-Michel and Cancale. You can also spend an active few days doing the rounds of the numerous golf courses in the region. Previous guests had no hesitation in awarding Hotel Le Challonge a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
How to Get There
Room is a good size with ensuite shower. We overlooked the road but windows shut out any noise. Fan in wardrobe which was excellent.
My only quibble, was that there were no cups in the room, just paper cups and two coffee sachets. Paper cups are not useful and hard to reuse.
Room clean and had all amenities.
Mattress very hard. Husband said his side (two single beds pushed together) was okay I folded the spare quilt and used that as a topper.
Breakfast €9 but we preferred to eat out.
Great location, easy walk to centre.
Drove to port but can walk there.
Free parking about 300m away from hotel.
We stayed here for four nights while enjoying Dinan and the surrounding area. The hotel is right across the street from a large parking lot. Payment required for the privilege. We arrived mid-afternoon and were given the key to our room. Our room was quite large and mostly nicely decorated. The wall coverings were pretty. The bed had firm mattress. The bathroom was clean. The were excellent reading lamps above the bed. The television had 6-7 English-speaking stations. The breakfast was adequate. The staff was very courteous.
Warm & personable staff throughout our stay. Good sized room with decent, comfortable bed. Great bathroom. Both spotless.
Nice continental breakfast choices, with an introductory explanation of the very lovely local artisan far breton!
Cheap parking dead opposite. Convenient central location. Super value all round.
Ideally located, and a lovely Hotel. Friendly staff that understood our poor French and spoke English.Although on the road, no noise is heard from the rooms. We would highly recommend and we will return.
Hotel was conveniently located across from large pkg. lot, which is such a plus. Pay at machine before approaching exit gate. Very conveniently located to town. Had great meals in old section of town. Restaurant attached to hotel was also available, although we had limited time to utilize. Hotel has elevator, a rarity in France. Very clean. Check in and out was efficient. Staff pleasant.
