The Lowdown

The charming and unassuming Hotel Le Challonge lies at the crossroads of many famous Brittany attractions, in the heart of the historic medieval town of Dinan – regarded as the region’s prettiest. The hotel is the oldest in town, with a history of hospitality dating back to the early 19th century. There’s plenty of local colour in view, as you’re right on the famous Du Guesclin Square, with its famous statue and regular market.
The town is a maze of half-timbered houses, art galleries and craft shops, and the bustling port down on the river is a lively hub. From here you can take a boat to the coastal town of St Malo, and visit Mont Saint-Michel and Cancale. You can also spend an active few days doing the rounds of the numerous golf courses in the region. Previous guests had no hesitation in awarding Hotel Le Challonge a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

Warm & personable staff throughout our stay. Good sized room with decent, comfortable bed. Great bathroom. Both spotless.
Nice continental breakfast choices, with an introductory explanation of the very lovely local artisan far breton!
Cheap parking dead opposite. Convenient central location. Super value all round.

Hotel was conveniently located across from large pkg. lot, which is such a plus. Pay at machine before approaching exit gate. Very conveniently located to town. Had great meals in old section of town. Restaurant attached to hotel was also available, although we had limited time to utilize. Hotel has elevator, a rarity in France. Very clean. Check in and out was efficient. Staff pleasant.

Excellant reception . good service . great standards of cleanliness..Decor a little dated but doesnt detrace from high standard. Breakfast is good (continental as you would expect) Super town centre position opposite town car parking. Market day on car park Thursdays. Hotel has really super restaurant attached which provides excellent formula menu package. Would definitely stay here again

Comfortable stay in great location

We enjoyed our stay here due to good the location of the hotel and the spacious room, including the bathroom. We had a lovely outlook and the rooms were very quiet from both street noise and inter room noise. Tea/coffee making available in the room making for a comfortable stay. There is no safe or barfridge though which is a shame. The bed was very hard! Good if you like a hard bed, otherwise not so good. The Tourist Information Centre is located just down the road and they are an excellent and helpful team. The breakfast at Le Challonge is very basic and probably not worth the fee, but it is convenient as not many places are open for breakfast during September. The 2 cereals provided remained untouched for the 4 breakfasts we were there, which would suggest they try something different that is more likely to be eaten and enjoyed.
