How to Get There
This hotel is ok - the rooms are clean and large - but the staff and restaurant were just ok. This is supposed to be a boutique hotel - but the service was marginal. It was a private beach and there were beach chairs but they were stacked under a tree and no one put them out on the beach and when you went to use one they were always dirty because it rains every day. You had to take the chair into the water to rinse it off. The best thing was unlimited beach towels. Beach is nice
I don’t know about the nightlife, I really don’t care anymore. This is most of all a place to relax and enjoy nature.
The rooms are good. We got the smaller junior suite and it was still spacious for two parents with two young children.
We got a deal including two meals. Pricewise it made sense, and the food is good, but our tiny tico bellies could not cope with so much food for dinner!
If you get bored, go biking, jogging, snorkeling, kayaking or stand up paddling. Bahía Culebra is big and safe, you can find other awesome beaches and paddle for ever.
We had a 5 night reservation, and after we checked in, walked around, went to the nearby restaurant area, and unpacked, we decided to switch hotels.
It is gorgeous and the beach feels remote and uncrowded. We chose Playa Hermoso because we didn't want to go to the touristy area.
The room was comfortable and up to date. The gardens and resident monkeys were amazing.
Here's the rub: it is perfect for a honeymoon or couples vacation, but a family could get very bored there. June is the off-season and there were not many people checked in - the restaurant was completely vacant during lunch time. The pool is small and not really designed for kids. There is only one restaurant, and if you don't want to eat there for every meal, you have to walk for 20-30 (hot/humid) minutes to the town of Playa Hermoso, which is very small and most restaurants/shops were closed at 2:00 PM.
Most restaurants, stores, etc are on in nearby Coco Beach, and that is a $20 one-way shuttle from the hotel. We decided to go stay there, and while the hotel was not as nice, I feel like it was a much better fit for a family vacation. People will tell you it is a loud party town, but during this time of year, we found it to be a sleepy beach town and we found a quiet hotel off the main street.
This was simply the best hotel we stayed at during our stay in Costa Rica. Amazing rooms, absolutely gorgeous surroundings with the ocean and pool. And, the service was the best I’ve ever had at a hotel. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and professional. I highly, highly recommend staying here!
Great Beach hotel in Playa Hermosa Costa Rica. Very spacious, spotless rooms set in rain forest setting. On very private, quiet beach. Very good food. Bar o.k. Very friendly staff. Great for honeymoon or family trip
