How to Get There
After months of searching for the perfect honeymoon location we decided on Casa Chameleon per our travel agent's suggestion and I am so glad we did!
The hotel is about an hour from Liberia airport and they will provide transportation if you would like. When you pull up to Casa Chameleon you are in shock and awe. The pictures do not do the hotel justice- it is beyond anything you can capture with a camera. There are panoramic views from every angle and you can tell the hotel was built around the views and sunsets. Everything is beautifully decorated with a sense of minimalism which we really liked. Our villa was lovely and we really enjoyed everything they provide you with down to the small details like the rain forest water and vanilla ginger soap.
THE COMMON AREAS
The restaurant, bar area and pool is main gathering for the center of the hotel and honestly it is difficult not to gravitate to this area. The infinity pool feels so special and it is surrounding by comfy cabanas and great lounge chairs. They have a small stand with fruit infused ice water, sunscreen and aloe which we thought was a nice touch. The bar offers a more casual feel with benches with cushions and a theater style seating all facing the ocean/pool. The restaurant has a more formal feel with your standard table/chairs for dining and is open air all the way around.
We ate a the hotel restaurant for almost every meal during our stay- the food is that good! For breakfast I would recommend the french toast or huevos rancheros. For lunch the shrimp or fish tacos and for dinner the grilled fish preparation or the whole red snapper if they are offering that as a special. For dessert get the churchill... trust me. We drank a lot of cocktails during our stay and the drinks are all super delicious and were some of the best cocktails we have had. Try the Chameleon Lemonade
We absolutely fell in love with the staff here. I've been to Costa Rica once before and the people always stick out in your memory. Everyone was so friendly and always willing to help us out or have a chat. You are always greeted with a warm smile and a Pura Vida! Paola at the front is incredible- she was always there for anything we needed and even arranged a massage appt for us even though it was super last minute. At the pool bar we always received excellent service from Juvenal! He was always on the ready to get us our next drink and to make sure we were doing alright. For service at the restaurant we really loved our experiences with Alexander! He gave us great recommendations- many of which became our favorite dishes at the restaurant. He also provide incredible service and took great care of us. For drinks at the bar we enjoyed our time with Rolvin- thanks for the delicious drinks and great conversation! We even got to meet Chef Jose twice- what a cool guy! Everyone at this resort is top notch and we really felt like part of the family so thank you for that.
The resort staff is always available to book a number of activities for you and can make some great recommendations. We did the group catamaran tour and had the best time- please book this! We also booked two massages appointments which they do in your suite- we loved them! We did the congo canopy tour and while we were impressed with the staff there the zipline itself was nothing special- we did get to see a family of monkeys at the end which was really cool. We went on a day trip to Rincon National Park and would recommend this as well. The resort staff will also take you down to Las Catalinas where you have options for even more activities: hiking, biking, cayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding and of course some beach time. You will not run out of things to do! The hotel also offers yoga and workout classes and the top level of the resort- incredible views. We did surf lesson at Frijoles Loco Surf Shop about a 30 minute drive from the resort and would also recommend this activity.
1. While we did love our suite part of the view was obstructed by trees/shrubs. We booked this hotel for the incredible views and were a little disappointed about this. It would be great if the staff could trim the area some- at least for our suite. 2. We loved almost all of the food at the restaurant we did have two dishes were the octopus was overcooked and chewy/rubbery. 3. The music in the restaurant/bar area is a constant electric trance style- while it isn't terrible it does get very old after a few days. I wish they would mix up the music from time to time.
All in all this was a 5 star experience and we plan to come back for our 10th wedding anniversary. If you are considering booking here I say jump on it now. This place is beautiful treasure that has not yet been fully discovered- take advantage while you can and book it!
Thanks Casa Chameleon family!
We hope to see you soon,
Patrick & Josie McKenzie
The staff was amazing, the rooms were outstanding and the view was breathtaking! Roberto was our concierge and he took great care of us! He helped us book all of our adventures including: scuba diving, sunset catamaran cruise Diamante Adventure Park (with ziplining) and a in-room massage. We couldn't have received any better treatment. The entire staff at the resort knew our names by the end of the first day and always addressed us by name. The views from the infinity pool at sunset were always spectacular! We WILL return!
This is my fifth time to Costa Rica - I've been lucky to visit and stay at some of the most beautiful hotels in the country and this was by far the best experience. The view is a dream, the rooms are gorgeous - you can't beat your own private infinity pool!, the restaurant was delicious (we ate there every night!), and most of all the five-star service was incredible. I love that it's a small property - only about 21 villas so - which makes the experience much more intimate. A few things - if you're looking to stock up on Costa Rican snacks and affordable wine, I would stop at a grocery store before you get to the hotel. The best word I heard to describe the small town down the hill, Las Catalinas, is "artificial." It is really only a town for tourists and the newly opened gourmet grocery store only has imported items. Although I will say it is a beautiful project, the beach is great, and the beach-front restaurant is a nice change. Also, you definitely don't need a car while you're there - the staff will drive you to the nearby beaches, and it's easier to eat at the restaurant (and the food is great!) because driving those roads in the dark is not very fun. All-in-all, I hope that I can be back one day - thank you for the amazing stay!!
Casa Chameleon is a beautiful hotel with private villas and plunge pools. Near the newly built and still under construction town, Las Catalinas. The rooms are comfortable and clean and have beautiful views with some of the most amazing sunsets that you will ever see. The hotel is a short walk/golf cart ride from the beach. Playa Danta is a beautiful beach. We spent most of our stay at the beach, and exploring the town of Las Catalinas.
During our first night here my fiancé organized a private cabana to propose to me. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful engagement. They prepared a private table for us in the yoga studio with night views all around us as lightning flashed in the night. It was beautiful. The food during our proposal was some of my favorite during our stay. They even prepared special vegetarian dishes for us knowing that I am vegetarian.
The hotel even organized an engagement photoshoot with professional photographer Jonathan Yonkers per my fiancés request.
The food at the restaurant on site, Sentido Norte is amazing. We attempted to try as many different things on the menu as we could.
Everyone working at Casa Chameleon is friendly and very helpful. It was nice getting to know everyone working here.
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for relaxation with beautiful views of the ocean. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and hope to come back for another visit.
*I will say that there are a lot of stairs to get to the villas. It may be a bit difficult on some. I’m not sure of a more easily accessible route to the villas.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in September. Casa Chameleon exceeded our every expectation. From the moment we got picked up from the airport, we felt like a part of Casa Chameleon's "family." Each and every staff member treated us like they had known us for years and we were truly excited to see them each day. Our room was a dream. The view (without even leaving your extremely comfy bed) CANNOT be beat. The plunge pool, roomy shower, and amenities gave us little reason to leave our room...especially when you can order the unbelievable food to your room. Tony, Monrique, Emma, Alexander (and SO MANY OTHERS) did, however, give us a reason. They greeted us SO WARMLY each day (even when they could tell we had too many cervezas the night before) and made our stay incredible. The food at the restaurant is incredible and watching the sunset while you eat is unmatched. With multiple beaches so close and excursions just a drive away, there will be no shortage of things to do during your stay. Costa Rica is an unbelievably beautiful and friendly place to visit and Casa Chameleon is the epitome of Pura Vida. I promise you, your stay will exceed your expectations, as well. Personally, we hope to see the beautiful faces at Casa Chameleon again soon! (Maybe a one year anniversary trip???) Thank you for making our honeymoon unforgettable and sharing a bit of your wonderful country with us. Pura Vida!
