Gran Melia Don Pepe
What We Love
- Laid-back lunch in the beachside Cappuccino restaurant
- RedLevel rooms include access to the lounge for breakfast, drinks, canapés and butler service
- Shopping in exclusive stores in Puerto Banús, then sitting at a café to watch the celebrity crowd drift by
- Snorkeling, water-skiing and other water activities, from the beach
- Lounging atop a vast, canopied poolside Bali daybed
What To Know
- Calima, the hotel’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant, tends to be fully booked, especially on weekends; make a reservation when you book your room
- You might find the poolside Bali beds a bit expensive (about $140 per day) — if so, pick a lawn sun lounger or head for the beach

How to Get There
We stayed at this hotel on a Tauck Tour and frankly, I expected better. The public spaces were very nice but I was disappointed with our room. It seemed rather dated and the bathroom was incredibly small. In fact, the towel rack was placed in the small room with the toilet. My wife moved it out and we kept it outside the bathroom. The vanity had almost no counter space but did have drawers which we used to place our toiletries. We were on a lower floor and maybe the rooms on the higher floors were nicer. We did have a beautiful view, however. The breakfasts were good and the hotel is conveniently located. We were able to walk to the old historic area as well as having easy access to some good restaurants on the boardwalk.
I highly recommend the Gran Melia. Only thing that was annoying was that the Hotel didn't offer beach chairs and accommodations at the beach. It was a separate company somehow affiliated with the Hotel that charged for its services. Not the way it should be.
My family and I stayed at the Gran Melia Don Pepe for a week during early June. From arrival to departure we found that the staff were very professional, friendly and courteous. The hotel itself is stunning and spotlessly clean. The facilities and food were excellent and the location was close to the old town centre, which we visited frequently. My only 2 criticisms were that 1) The wardrobe space was a little small and the clothes could only be hung facing you and not sideways, to see them better. 2) We had two small children with us and there was no easy access directly at the back of the hotel down to the promenade, using the pushchairs. We either had to walk around the front of the hotel, then around and down the side streets, or carry the pushchairs up and down the steps that were there at the back. This wasn't easy when the children fell asleep in them unless with carried them out too and only if other guests were around to help. Please Gran Melia, can you do something about this and I'm sure that we will visit again soon!
We returned for the fourth time in two years time to the Gran Melia Don Pepe, just to find the service from the Red Glove Staff once more as impeccable as one can expect. The Red Level Lounge now offers a spacious terrace and a dedicated breakfast area was nearly completed (opening end of June, we were told). The hotel is ideally located at the beautyfull Paseo Maritimo between Marbella and Peurto Banus, yet within walking distance of the old city. Many thanks to Abel, Vanessa, Irene, Alex and their staff to turn our stay into the most memorable ever on the Golden Mile and thanks to Rafa - the hyperkinetic :-) Master of the Pool - and his team for taking so well care of us during daytime. See you all back in September! Mieke & Erik
If you want a superb hotel with wonderful, helpful, professional & friendly teams you have to stay here!!
From the minute we arrived to departure the team couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable!
The food in all bars & restaurants is delicious & we strongly suggest taking full advantage of the Red Lounge upgrade.
Sad to leave but we'll be back!
Thank you Don Pepe!
