Lovely chalets set in native forest. Other chalets were barely seen. Very comfortable, good bed t be hard to and shower. The staff were excellent, particularly with the electric cart service between chalet, carpark, and main building with bar and restaurant. It will nofind a reason to go back.

Celebrate first birthday.

Incredible hospitality and lovely atmosphere

My husband and I stayed in Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort for 2 nights in October 2019. From the beginning, we were impressed by the incredible hospitality and friendliness of the staff, particularly Nisha, one of the Assistant Managers. The chalet was lovely- being surrounded by nature and being woken by bird song each morning made for a relaxing weekend away. I was impressed by the quality of the food- it was delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. We had such an amazing experience and would highly recommend it.

I thought I would share some tips/points that may be useful to some who are considering staying here:
1. On our last day (a Monday), we had our only 'negative' experience; we were having breakfast in the restaurant and there was only one waitress working. After waiting 10 minutes for our order to be taken, we were then informed that food would take 30 minutes to arrive. We could tell upon arrival that the waitress was stressed and overworked, but her tone was not the customer service we had otherwise received at Puka Park (she was friendlier and warmer when we spoke to her the night before). My husband pointed out the above to her and she acknowledged being the only one working. Nisha was then contacted to assist her and I believe they prioritised our meals. When we went to pay, the waitress apologised for what happened and said breakfast would be complimentary, which is once again a reflection of their excellent hospitality. Each time we went to the restaurant, we noticed they were generally understaffed, but this was the first time it inconvenienced us. I hope that in summer, they have more staff working.
2. Puka Park is a bit out of the way- totally worth it for the wilderness environment, but makes hiring a car and planning where you are going to eat of an evening, essential.
3. The chalets are located up a relatively steep hill followed by 20 or so steps (for us). They have a buggy that reception staff use to transport people up the hill, but sometimes reception were not always available to do this and I imagine for some, the steps would be inconvenient. I am not sure whether they have accessible chalets.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay and the staff, especially Nisha, were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We hope to come back again in future!
