Perched on a rugged promontory where waves lash the shores, this grand Victorian hotel and cottages provide the perfect base for exploring some of both Cornwall and England’s finest coastline, or simply staring out to sea in quiet contemplation.
The Headland overlooks the postcard-perfect Fistral Beach in Newquay. Winner of two prestigious Gold Awards at the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Gold and Silver accolades at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, this family-run hotel dominates the coastline and the original building featured in the memorable film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.
It boasts spectacular views and impressive leisure facilities. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, and the spa – Cornwall’s first Five Bubble awarded – gives The Headland a contemporary feel. The Cornish salt steam room is a lovely local twist alongside the Swedish sauna, hot tub and aromatherapy showers. The hotel scored a well-deserved TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Allowing you freedom and flexibility, the five-star Headland cottages are built in a charming Cornish village style. If you opt for a cottage stay, you will still have access to all the hotel’s facilities and you can mix self-catering with meals in the restaurant.
How to Get There
Beautiful hotel on a great location.Staff were very friendly and helpful.Rooms very clean.Food was great and my daughter really enjoyed her surfing lesson. Will definitely come back and I would highly recommend this hotel.
As usual The Headland delivered a wonderful stay. Grandparents to Grandchildren all had a lovely time. Thoughtful and happy staff. The hotels surfing school, Surf Sanctury with Dom was excellent, brilliant teaching and fun! We love The Headland.
Wait is the name of the game here - we waited 25 minutes for main courses and then after waiting 30 minutes for the sweet course we gave up - this after a 20 minute wait from receiving the menu to ordering the food - and there’s loads of wait staff! And this is simply for bar food - not even in the main restaurant.
Nice hotel, but let down by the kitchen service. We’re eating elsewhere for the rest of our stay!
We are currently staying at the Headland Hotel for the Easter break and whilst the hotel experience is nice, the spa experience has been disastrous. Avoid treatments, as they are not up to the expected standards and you are being charged before the treatment with no option to dispute it if you are unhappy afterwards. Both the Spa Manager and hotel’s Operations Manager are very unhelpful and lack any customer service skills, providing only excuses and refusing a refund for an unfinished badly done treatment. We will not booked any treatments going forward at this spa as this is an absolute waste of time and money!
Stayed in room 232, which comprised a large bedroom with a seperate seating area which was divided by folding doors. Large bathroom with bath and shower, and twin sinks. Views over the bay allowed us to watch the surfers from out bedroom.
The samphire restaurant was just excellent. The food was delicious and the presentation was superb.
The staff were all very friendly and very helpful.
I fou d the the hotel to be very well run. And our room was very quiet.
