Perched on a rugged promontory where waves lash the shores, this grand Victorian hotel and cottages provide the perfect base for exploring some of both Cornwall and England’s finest coastline, or simply staring out to sea in quiet contemplation.
The Headland overlooks the postcard-perfect Fistral Beach in Newquay. Winner of two prestigious Gold Awards at the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Gold and Silver accolades at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, this family-run hotel dominates the coastline and the original building featured in the memorable film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.
It boasts spectacular views and impressive leisure facilities. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, and the spa – Cornwall’s first Five Bubble awarded – gives The Headland a contemporary feel. The Cornish salt steam room is a lovely local twist alongside the Swedish sauna, hot tub and aromatherapy showers. The hotel scored a well-deserved TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Allowing you freedom and flexibility, the five-star Headland cottages are built in a charming Cornish village style. If you opt for a cottage stay, you will still have access to all the hotel’s facilities and you can mix self-catering with meals in the restaurant.
How to Get There
A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. The staff were all excellent and the room that we had overlooking Fistral Beach was excellent, We only ate breakfast at the hotel but that was of very high quality.
Just a great hotel in all ways.
For such a landmark hotel the Headlan is in great condition.
It has great facilities and of course a really great view over Fistrall Beach in Newquay.
We had a big group who went fot the weekend and were there for an event and it could not have worked better in any way.
The Spa area and swimming pool are kept in such a great condiotion. We were very impressed b y the cleanliness of the entire hotel
Plus very receptive and friendly staff.
I would definitely recommend the Headland Hotel Newquay.
We have just returned from our 2nd visit to the Headland Hotel and Spa for our belated wedding anniversary weekend away. We were again in lovely room 130 and on arrival there was a card and swans for our anniversary. Although the room was lovely and had plenty of room for our dogs, 2 out of the 3 nights was very windy and the internal glazing /old windows were rattling all night, so 2 out of the 3 nights we had very poor nights sleep, however the views from the room over Fistral beach are amazing!
We had 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and there was plenty of choice for different dietary requirements and in general the service in the restaurant was very good. A little disappointed on our 3rd visit to the restaurant, I ordered the same meal I had the night before as it was delicious, vegan tagliatelle, however for what ever reason this time the food was very spicy, dry and I could not eat it all, lips and tongue were burning.
We did mention it to the waiter who apologised but no compensation or alternative was offered. We feel this would have been dealt with differently if the manager Greg had of been on duty.
The Spa area is lovely, very clean and staff are very welcoming. We a some treatments but however compared to our first visit back in March we were a little disappointed, the standard of treatments and the information offered about the treatments were not as good. Concerns that foot scrubs were not decanted into a bowl and therapist put her fingers back in the pot after touching my feet, then put the lid back on. this is a hygiene issue. Before our treatment we went into the relaxation area which is lovely, however there were lots of dirty cups and glasses. The hotel needs to make people aware that this is a relaxation area not an area for guests to have a chinwag, which is disruptive to other guests trying to relax!
All in all a lovely hotel and great staff, but not sure if we will visit again!
