The Lowdown

Perched on a rugged promontory where waves lash the shores, this grand Victorian hotel and cottages provide the perfect base for exploring some of both Cornwall and England’s finest coastline, or simply staring out to sea in quiet contemplation.
The Headland overlooks the postcard-perfect Fistral Beach in Newquay. Winner of two prestigious Gold Awards at the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Gold and Silver accolades at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, this family-run hotel dominates the coastline and the original building featured in the memorable film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

5 nights in a great cottage

What a wonderful hotel. Set in an amazing location on the headland above Fistral beach with some of the best views around.

We rented Mariners 2, one of the self-catering cottages for 5 night and loved our time there This is the tallest cottage with 270 degree views from the upper level and it was superb. Exceptionally clean and tidy and a 1st class place to stay.

We had full access to the hotel bars and restaurants and also the spa facilities (recommend booking a massage - it was one of the best we've had).

The only minor gripe is that it's £24 per night for a dog, or £120 for 5 nights which seemed a bit excessive for a small dog who did not eat any of the biscuits and made no mess... £10 per night would have been much more in line with other comparable hotels we've stayed in.

All in all an excellent experience and our thanks to all at the hotel for a wonderful stay.

Highly, highly recommended.

The location is just stunning. The service and staff are wonderful at the Headland, the doorman greeted us at the car, our cases were whisked to our room before we’d finished check in! We had an ocean view room, the views are just stunning and the attention to detail is lovely; fresh milk in the room for my tea.
Breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea were all mouth watering delicious.
The spa facilities are so relaxing and of the high quality expected.
We had a very relaxing time and hope to return in future.

Caution! Too strict. Not for parties!

The hotel is really nice and cozy. Rooms small, but with a good view. Beautiful spa, outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Respectable restaurant, friendly waiters, but very-very simple food. Only one problem in this hotel - they try to earn money by penalising customers. In my case they took £75 for penalty for confetti cannons being left off within the room on my birthday. So, be careful - the atmosphere in hotel is very strict and is not a good place for weddings, birthdays or other parties.
