Perched on a rugged promontory where waves lash the shores, this grand Victorian hotel and cottages provide the perfect base for exploring some of both Cornwall and England’s finest coastline, or simply staring out to sea in quiet contemplation.
The Headland overlooks the postcard-perfect Fistral Beach in Newquay. Winner of two prestigious Gold Awards at the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Gold and Silver accolades at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, this family-run hotel dominates the coastline and the original building featured in the memorable film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.
It boasts spectacular views and impressive leisure facilities. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, and the spa – Cornwall’s first Five Bubble awarded – gives The Headland a contemporary feel. The Cornish salt steam room is a lovely local twist alongside the Swedish sauna, hot tub and aromatherapy showers. The hotel scored a well-deserved TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Allowing you freedom and flexibility, the five-star Headland cottages are built in a charming Cornish village style. If you opt for a cottage stay, you will still have access to all the hotel’s facilities and you can mix self-catering with meals in the restaurant.
How to Get There
Been here several times over the last year, never stayed but been to the restaurant and had drinks whilst sitting in the lounge. The surroundings are lovely and the service is generally very good.
Word of warning about ordering the mocktails, I ordered one and even stated to the waiter that I was driving. When it arrived it was very good and I mentioned to the person I was that it even tasted like it had alcohol in! After finishing I doubled checked with the waiter and he one to check with the bar, he came back and said that they had put 2 shots in it! Apparently they have the same named cocktail and gave me that one, all they did was offered me a coffee so i could drive home! No apology and when I emailed the hotel they did not even have the decency to reply to my email.
Always loved Fistral Beach and the location of this hotel. Always wanted to stay here but was disappointed overall. Should have stayed in town very expensive for what you get although the spa did look nice if that’s your thing
A very enjoyable stay. The north Cornish coast is a great destination at any time of year. Lots of lovely fresh air and thankfully not too much Cornish sea drizzle this time! Februatprynis a great tomtime to come, out of season when there appear deals to be had..
I had fond memories of a childhood visit to The Headland so was a little nervous of returning for fear that it would have lost the magical atmosphere that so enthralled me as a small child. But I needn't have worried. The location of course remains as spectacular as ever with it's sweeping vistas along the Cornish coastline and out across the Atlantic. Inside the heart of the building has retained its wonderful period charm, but that's been cleverly combined all the modern luxuries and facilities you could hope for. Our room was an oasis of calm with superb sea views, proper armchairs, a good work station, a well appointed bathroom and a bed so comfortable it was hard to leave. The lounges and bars were spacious yet cozy and intimate. The restaurants offered more superlative views and exceptional food focusing on great local ingredients prepared with flair. And to put the final cherry on the cake, the staff could not have been more helpful and thoughtful throughout our stay. We are delighted to recommend The Headland to others and will definitely be returning.
Very lovely, thank you , staff were fantastic and the room was beautiful, the drinks (wine ) was very expensive though!! Beautiful view and fine dining, the breakfast staff were the best of our stay away , fab people. Thank you
