How to Get There
Stayed few nights while visiting the university. We had a "Spacious" Yale View Room with double beds. I definitely would not call it spacious, especially in US. The room was quite worn out. I'd expect the property must be due for an uplift. Breakfast was good and the restaurant had nice views overlooking Yale. The best thing about is location. Walking distance to Yale and plenty of restaurants just around the corner.
I had the opportunity to be guest of Omni Hotel at New Haven and to be part of two days academic events very well served for the Hotel Staff and with facilities that make the work easy. there are opportunities to improve the food service and the maintenance of the rooms.
The Omni was in a perfect location for my friends and me to get around in downtown New Haven. I would stay here again and suggest anyone to stay here. The room was clean, the beds were comfy, I was very pleased.
We were staying in the Omni hotel for the 7 days during duration of a international competition held at Yale University. We were greeted by very efficient and friendly staff. Keeping in mind there were many groups from different schools throughout a couple of days. Some of the event meals were held at the hotel as well. So there lobby was always full of people - many waiting parents who weren't guests at the hotel. At no time did I feel ti chaotic. Maybe because it was winter, I felt it to be cosy to see so many people. I also noted complimentary hot chocolate in large dispensers on particularly cold days. That was such a lovely touch.
As I stayed in some days to do work in my room, my interaction with the housekeeping staff was more frequent. A staff who cleaned our floor, named Maria was vey obliging and helpful. The room is a good and comfortable size.
The bathroom size is also very good and there is ample storage and vanity space for me and my teenage daughter. There is a bathtub. The only MAJOR complaint I have about the bathroom is that there is no lid on the toilet seat. Judging by the look and design - it was intended and not like it was "not yet replaced". We were both very uncomfortable to brush out teeth next to the gapping toilet bowl. We also felt uncomfortable flushing the toilet without being able to have a lid over it.
The in room wifi speed was good enough for my work. There is also a 24 hour gym which I managed to enjoy. It was well equipped. They provided newly wrapped earphones for you to plug into the channels provided on the monitors on the machines. There were also free weights station - although I didn't use them I noticed some others using them for quite a while.
The location of the hotel is very convenient. It was walkable to Yale University, to F&B outlets, to an organic good supermarket and I even managed to walk to a laundromat. It was a lovely stay at the Omni. The price is not the most economical but considering that my daughter's event was held there at times and the convenience of the location, I feel it was worth it.
We didn't pay for the hotel breakfast but there was a small take out cafe which served sandwiches and pastries and coffee until 10am daily. We didn't even find the need to go there as there were so many choices nearby.
The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The parking was convenient but expensive. This is apparently an old hotel that the Omni has refurbished. It is located down the green from Yale and in a questionable neighborhood, but then Yale is surrounded by a questionable neighborhood. Breakfast is not included so remember this when comparing prices. The view of the campus from the restaurant is outstanding. If you want a walk in shower, it might not be available. Room was clean but small.
