How to Get There
I wanted to take a moment to recognize some of the staff on Friday morning 2/15. 2 front desk employees and 2 servers in the Vino restaurant. Traveling with 2 small kids that checked in the night before - very late. The staff went out of there to way to help with breakfast accommodations, and explain any & all features the hotel had to offer, schedules, etc. Might sound routine - but they truly went out of their way to make me feel like a valued guest. I am a very frequent Marriott traveler - but first time to this Hartford location. I am only sorry that I did not catch these 4 individual's names. (Hopefully you see this or someone does and knows who you are :))
Based on these 4 staff members i would only stay at this property if ever back in the greater Hartford area.
The Hartford Marriot Downtown is a delightful upscale hotel located next to the Convention center in downtown Hartford Connecticut.
I am a frequent guest when in town on business. It has a Starbucks located inside, an exquisite bar named LBar with a great selection of wine and liquor and upscale dining at Vivo.
Courteous and great concierge service. I highly recommend the Hartford Marriot for discerning guests who want an excellent upscale location to stay both for business and leisure.
We just stayed at the Hartford Marriott Downtown because my daughter had an audition at The Hartt School at U. of Hartford. The location of this hotel was great because there were many restaurants and a movie theater within easy walking distance. Plenty of room to park at the parking garage. The drive to the University was maybe 10 min. The room was clean, and the staff were great. We were leaving at 6am on a Sunday for another audition in another state (and the Starbucks in the lobby opens at 7am on Sundays) - but the hotel staff made sure we had a great supply of fresh coffee for the road at 6am sharp. Great stay.
As a Platinum member I stay at a lot of Marriotts across the world. This hotel looks very nice and the rooms and restaurants are up to par for Marriott, but where they fall short is the service. From the check in process to the check out process it was just terrible. I do not think they have ever trained any employee on exceptional service. When I checked in I asked if there were any upgrades and the front desk agent laughed and said “sir you are lucky you even have a room”. I totally understand it is on availability but I would hope as a platinum member I would have a room. Then I went to the lounge for a snack and I was 30 seconds late for the apps they have out. I was traveling all day and did not eat. They were just starting to clean them up and I asked if I could grab something and they said sorry. It’s dessert time. So I grabbed a few waters and went to my room. This morning I had a 6:30 pick up at the hotel so I went to grab a quick breakfast at 6:25. I walked in and the lounge attendant looked at me and said we open at 6:30. You can only have water or coffee! I said it was only 5 minutes early and I had to leave to catch a flight and she said sorry. What got me the most mad was that all the food was set up set up and she was sitting there with the other attendant BS’ing. Finally at checkout the woman was so disengaged and could care less she did not even ask me how my stay was so I just mentioned the few issues and she looked at me and said “I am sorry”, handed me my receipt and said have a great day!
I usually do not complain and you can see from my posts on TripAdvisor I usually and very easy but when you pay this much for a room and they could care less about you I would think about another place to stay.
Lady at check in was completely rude. Didn't tell me anything about the hotel, like where the gym was or the lounge. I had to ask where the elevators were. When I asked for water she told me there was water in the room. She lied. No water in the room. I got to my room at 1140pm and tried to call for room service and the numberer was shut off. I called the front desk and they said they closed. The menu says midnight. I had 20min left.
I would never stay here again and I would not recommend anyone staying here in the future. These people need better training in customer service.
