How to Get There
The lobster quesadilla was superb as was the flatbread pizza. Highly recommend this establishment and especially Amy. Always ask for Amy as your server in the bar. You will not be disappointed. We love it here!
LIfetime Titanium Elite member that prefers Westins, W over Marriott. Find that some of the Marriott properties are in need of renovation/upgrades. NOT in this case. Property is well laid out, common areas are well appointed and comfortable. Dare I say Mytic's best kept secret? Exceptional valet with efficient check in. Room was clearly upgraded with modern and comfortable ammenities. Since guest lounge was closed, they provided us with the daily continental breakfast at their marquee restaurant Octagon. Expcetional service by Jonattan and great food prepared by Chef Chris. I lvoed the fact that the breakfast was served until noon when in my experience other properties close this way too early. Nice effort! Close proximity to Mystic Aquarium and Seaport; Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Credit all the staff here for making our long Memorial Weekend trip memorable!
We stayed at this hotel on our visit to Mystic Seaport and Newport. Check in was fast and easy, and the kids could even choose a trinket from a toy chest. The lobby is spacious with lots of seating throughout. The decor looks modern and updated.
The room was very nice, clean and fresh. We like the laminate floors which is much nicer than carpeting as you can't tell how long they have gone without cleaning. There were plugs and charger ports throughout the room. The bathroom was good (they seemed to have forgotten to clean one spot but not a terrible issue). The only thing that might have been nice would be a clothes line to hang up wet swim suits.
The pool was nice and we used it several times. It is spacious enough not to feel crowded. There is a hot tub/whirlpool which is a nice feature. The outdoor space was good enough, but we did not use it. We did try the spa which was good.
The breakfast buffet was solid. There was the typical fare and an omelet/egg station. A good way to fill up to start the day.
All in all a pleasant and comfortable stay.
We stayed here many times in the past , so I was quick to notice the changes in lobby and rooms. The lobby has new furniture and the restaurant space was opened up to make the space more inviting. Unfortuntatly, the furniture Marriott used in their design are low, spartan and looks uncomfortable. Looks like children’s play set.
The front desk personnel was welcoming , acknowledged our titanium status and effficient.
We stayed in a corner room overlooking the reservoir. The bed was comfortable and I like Marriott feather pillows. Room was clean. Again , the Marriott designers like spartan aesthetics and have no idea that folks traveling need drawers for the clothes., not open shelves. There was 1 drawer and bedside shelves..the closet has a open shelf piece. We stayed one night , so I lived out of my siutcase.
This is no way a critsicim of the staff at Marriott but a slam at corporate interior designers ..
For the cost, many other options in the area with more charm, views, better food, more amenities. The old Mystic Marriott (which BTW is not in Mystic, but a few miles up the turnpike in Groton) is showing its age -- a lot of worn surfaces, a bit of mold in the shower surround. The housekeeping team seems not to get around to guest rooms until late afternoon (at least our room) and they managed to leave the same crumbs on the floor that were there when we checked in -- probably for the next guest as well. Overall a mediocre experience for a rather pricey accommodation.
