How to Get There
The Marriott chain is one of our favorites. They are consistently clean and well kept. We stayed in a double bed room overlooking the roof. Not the best view, but we just wanted a room to sleep in and get clean. The room has a modern feel to it, believe they renovated. The TV had some issues with some channels “skipping”. We ate the breakfast buffet at the Octagon which was pretty decent but a little pricey for an adult. We also sought out shuttle service to mystic center but were charging $5 per person per ride. (The last Marriott we stayed in in Providence was free). Aside from that, everything was great. The pool is great if you have kids.
This is a beautiful hotel given the location and recent renovations. We visited on Thurs-Sat June 28-30 and the hotel wasn't buzzing with the weekend wedding goers.
We are Platinum Elite (wasn't recognized on check in except after I mentioned). Usually upgraded or away from elevators -- given a room across from vending and ice machine and elevator (albeit, it was renovated). We had to go back down and request a different room (which was also renovated and further down the hall away from the noise -- (still don't know why she didn't offer it in the first place). Requested towels and pillows...when delivered after going out for dinner, we came back to an open door. SHOCKED!! We called back down to front desk (as we didn't get the pillows) to have the same person who delivered the towels come to our door. When I questioned him, he said he was in a rush and didn't pull the door. He blamed the renovated door for the lack of closing it!!! When we showered the next morning, the water in the newly renovated shower overflowed. It wasn't upon inspection of the drain (that is covered by a metal plate) that there was a HUGE GOB OF LONG DARK BLACK HAIR STUCK IN THE DRAIN! Housekeeping apparently doesn't know to look there for hair. In addition the shower doors were not installed properly as they opened when taking a shower.
Despite the hiccups, Marriott made good on the issues with a credit and extra points. I had to follow up today with the manager who was very pleasant. Without constructive criticism now, this hotel could get worse reviews later on. Good luck!
This property is being totally renovated. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We heard no construction noise while we were there. The restaurant was clean and the food was very good. The house wine was not impressive. Choose a sure thing instead. Overall it was a pleasant experience. We would stay again.
We arrived at 11:00, which we knew was early, and were told our room would be ready by 1:00. At 1:30 we were told they were not sure when our room would be ready, that check-in is at 4:00. After waiting in the lounge area 5 hours, our room was finally ready. The room was extremely spacious and clean, but very cold (aesthetically and temperature-wise) with a view of the roof and tractor trailer cabs in the parking lot. We also heard a lot of hallway noise early on Sunday morning (6:30AM), talking and sounding like things being dropped on the floor. I assume renovations are not yet complete as the restrooms nearest the dining area were completely closed. In my opinion, not a $500 accomodation.
This is the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, which is even more shocking considering the price.
1) The room was about 1/3 the size of the pictures of the room I booked online.
2) The air conditioning unit loudly kicked in on and off every few minutes, making a terrible noise and also making sure the room was either an unbearably cold 50 degrees or an impossible-to-sleep in 85 degrees.
3) two different times the hotel deactivated our keycards as they replaced locks. Out of those two times, we were warned it was happening only once. That warning came in the form of a piece of paper slid under the door. We unfortunately couldn’t see that piece of paper because, of course, we were locked out of the room.
4) Both days I was there. We had consistent loud construction noises in the room above us, power drills, hammers, etc, starting around 8:00am.
I could not possibly recommend this hotel less.
