How to Get There
The room was nice. Beds OK. Really nice bedding. Bath linens were good. Decent toiletries.
Now, the concerns. They need a grab bar in the shower. There was nothing to hold onto and getting in and out. It’s an easy fix and they should do it. The continental breakfast was OK but they need to be ready with the second pot of coffee. Nothing special here – some pastries yogurt, packaged fruit, fresh apples and a variety of juices.
Getting around the hotel was awkward. They were long walks and stairwells. Otherwise you have to drive to go upstairs or downstairs. There were a lot of things going on in the hotel. Parking was at a premium in the evening. It was also extremely noisy where we were located. We kept hearing people in the hallways including being woken at least twice between one and two in the morning. They allow dogs and there was some barking. We were also located near the staircase to the lobby. They had events in that area. They don’t close it off so the sound travels to the rooms.
All that being said, staff was gracious. Make sure you ask for a quiet room. It was extremely convenient for our visit to the area.
Our first room was 435. Could not stay it smelt like kitty litter . They were kind enough to move us to the room next door. This room smells like a kitty litter box as well. But not as strong. Will never book here again.
After staying in so many of what seems like the same hotel room, for work, this was a nice change. The hotel takes you back in time, in a good way. Country club style classic furniture and carpet, the amenities were in pretty China boxes and the beds were 4 post, big and comfy. Nice location, close to West Hartford and the town of Avon has quaint shops and restaurants. I enjoyed my stay and would stay again. Friendly staff and clean rooms.
Everyone at the hot is friendly and there are certainly challenges maintaining an older building. But it is a little concerning that anyone at any time could walk into the hotel entrances, day or night.
I was a little concerned to have an open liter bottle of ginger ale and a hotel key left on the nightstand when I first entered my room. But I arrived very, very late, 11:30pm. Since the rest of the room seemed okay I let it go.
Eventually the TV remote stopped working and the chair for the table broke a leg. After three days I was so tired of walking a LONG way, including down three flights of stairs to reach the front desk, to talk to someone or get a cup of coffee, I’d had it.
Pluses: restaurant is good and it was quiet mid-week.
As an aside: I hate toiletries made in China.
This is a very nice hotel, with large and attractive rooms, an excellent restaurant, a good 24 hr/day exercise room, and easy parking. But they won't get 5 stars from me until they replace the thin plastic drinking cups and paper coffee cups in the rooms. What an odd shortcoming for such an elegant place.
