I stayed at this Mount Pleasant Property, The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor and Marina from August 5th-August 9th with my family, and was extremely dissatisfied and disgusted with the establishment. This is NOT a cheap hotel. I was looking forward to my vacation and it turned out to be a very stressful one for me and my family. Upon checking in (Room#1424) and going to my initial room, I found a bug on the bed skirt of the bed. I went straight downstairs to the front desk and was told they would change the sheets for me. I’m guessing it was a small bug or spider of some sort. Ok.....NOW... The Morning of Day 3....I went into the bathroom and saw another Dead Bug on the floor. I looked closer and it was a Huge COCKROACH. I was DISGUSTED!!!! I, Once Again, brought it to the Manager of the Hotel, Matthew Early, attention and he stated he would give me a room change after I told him I wanted to change rooms. I was Told they were called “Palmetto Bugs” or “Water Bugs” and they have them all over in South Carolina in “Low Country”. I obviously was not happy with this answer and should NOT have had this in my Bathroom!!!!! This ruined my morning... could not get breakfast at the hotel because by the time we had to pack up our belongings and bring them to the front desk, breakfast hours were over and we lost our appetites as well. The manager ONLY compensated me the $28 Resort Fee!! That is It!!!! They called me when our New Room (on the same floor, Room #1409) was ready. We had to cut our day short to go back to the hotel and move again into a New Room. I informed the staff that this room should be checked and They ASSURED me that it was Double checked by housekeeping staff. DAY 5..... I WAS IN THE SHOWER AND SAW YET ANOTHER HUGE BUG CRAWLING ON THE GLASS SHOWER DOOR!!!!!!! I Needed to stop showering to get out and Kill this bug that was crawling up the glass door. I Once Again went to speak with the Manager, Matthew, and he once again told me that these bugs come in from the doors opening and closing and this is a Common Occurrence in Charleston, SC. During my 5 day stay, I was told by Staff that these bugs were “water bugs”, “Palmetto bugs”.....I looked them up and they are CockRoaches!!!!! Cockroaches that Carry Diseases and lay multiple eggs!!!! I have traveled many times before In different states, the Caribbean and Europe and NEVER have I encountered Cockroaches!!! Management was just “yes-ing me” and I did not feel like I was heard. I asked for something to be done the last day and manager stated he “already had compensated me the $28 Resort fee and could not do anything else for me and my family”. He offered a 1 hour later check out time that morning! NO THANK YOU!!!!! I honestly could not wait to leave!! This is Totally unacceptable!!!!!! I am not the exterminator for this property and SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING BUGS on my vacation!!!! I Would NEVER Stay at this property again nor would I stay at another Leading Hotels of the World Hotel!!!!! My two rooms could not have been the only rooms with these Cockroaches, and they must have a problem in the entire hotel! I would have never stayed here had I known!!!!

Even the pool was dirty with debris and I did not see anyone cleaning in or around the pool area!!

The ONLY positives were the VERY Nice bellmen...Craig, Michael, and Owen, who were excellent!! Also, The housekeeping supervisor, Alonso was Very Nice as well!

Exceptional service Darlisha Bellman

You should know what exceptional service we received from the Bell Lady Darlisha! This was our first time having a bell lady and she handled the luggage with great skill. She was entertaining to talk to and followed up with us every time she saw us at the resort. She gave restaurant recommendations, fun things to do. We travel a lot and know great service when we get it. We hope you will do something to recognize her.

Would not call this a resort....

We stayed at the beach club for three nights in August. First, the positives--beautifully decorated, rooms are clean and bright, beds were comfortable. Prime location overlooking the Charleston Harbor--waterfront with nice pool and only minutes to get to downtown Charleston. Positives stop there. Truthfully, there is just something odd about the place---guessing based how empty it was on a weekend it struggles financially and so they have cut every service and amenity to the bare minimum to accommodate for it. It's not really a "resort" as the website advertises--more like a nicely decorated Hampton Inn with a pool. There is no beach--just an area they threw down sand that was littered with cigarette butts and an abandoned tiki bar. The "movie theater" they advertise on the website is only for corporate events they told us. There is no food, drinks, coffee, breakfast, snacks anywhere near the hotel unless the pool bar happens to be open or the seafood restaurant down from the marina. The "chess board" was there but not set up. We had to call every day to ask to have our room cleaned. And to top it off the staff (if you see someone--the place is eerily empty) most could care less. Ridiculously overpriced for what it is.
