How to Get There
Top notch resort. Rooms gorgeous! Pool is large with great eats and drinks served poolside. Staff was friendly and accomodating. I would go again. (and again) Try the blood orange marguarita at the Bridge Bar. Also had a fabulous dinner at The Fish House onsite. Only 15 minute drive over the bridge to downtown Charleston. Loved everything about this stay.
We decided on this location for a rare ladies weekend getaway. After check in went to look at the view of Charleston Harbor from our balcony and noticed swarms of wasps and a nest nearby. Notified the desk staff but nothing was done to eradicate the huge nest located in the eaves of our balcony...
The door to the bathroom was a pocket door and felt a little stuck at times when closing it. Our group spent the day poolside but as ladies do take some time to get ready one departed from the pool to shower. After an hour and a half another from our group went back to the room to find the former locked in the bathroom. The pocket door came off the track and would not budge. She was locked in for over an hour...
The desk was notified and maintenance came to fix the door. They were able to free our friend but the repair of the door caused us to delay showering and getting ready for dinner. We had to beg for a later dinner reservation and were late for meeting up with friends for drinks.
I spoke with the staff who believed they fixed the problem and offered nothing in exchange for the inconvenience. We requested something to make up for our poor experience. We suggested breakfast to be compted at the hotel restaurant. We were offered breakfast for 1 of the 4 guests only. Front desk staff felt that they responded appropriately and timely.
Between the lack of response regarding the wasp hive on our balcony and the shameful reluctance to make it right regarding the locked-in situation, I would not recommend a stay at this hotel if you are seeking a quality room and good customer service at this price point.
Full Transparency---I am a travel agent and was a guest of the property. That being said I am impartial with all of my reviews.
I arrived the evening of September 28 and stayed 2 nights at the Beach Club in a King Harbor Deluxe room. Check in was a breeze. The young lady that assisted me told me about the resort and where everything was on a map and the whole process took 5 minutes or less. This resort does charge a resort fee and parking fee and will put a daily security hold on your card refunded at checkout but that is pretty standard at most resorts now.
Parking is close by and convenient and the grounds were well maintained.
The lobby was clean and nice and cool on a humid Charleston night. The decor was very fitting of a beach club overlooking boats with tasteful nautical touches.
We took the elevator up to our floor and noticed that the hallways air conditioning was working very well which I love. Even the hallway was bright with nautical themes throughout.
Our room was in a a word amazing. The balcony had a table and chairs and overlooked the Harbor and the beautiful boats. The bed was one of the most comfortable i had ever been on. They have a remote controlled electric fireplace that we used as a nice light at night. There was a sitting area, dining area/desk, tons of closet space and drawers, a refrigerator with bottled water in it, flat screen tv and a bathroom that was heavenly. Double sinks, great shower, deep tub and wonderfully smelling toiletries.
The pools were very well kept and clean and the resort was very quiet and relaxing. They apparently have giant chess and maybe bocce ball. I honestly didn't do either.
There are 3 bars between the Beach Club and Harbor side and 1 restaurant and a gift shop. The gift shop had some excellent stuff in it and for a resort very seasonably priced.
The restaurant on site is called the Fish House. I have heard good things about it but I don't eat seafood or fish so it didn't appeal to me. I did go there for breakfast once and it was ok. The service was very friendly but the coffee cups went unfilled for most of breakfast and the french toast had pretty hard bananas on top but the egg white omelet was good. Overall though it has a great boaty vibe and great views of the Harbor and big bridge and tons of baby crabs below.
They have a shuttle that takes you into Downtown Charleston with pick up right outside and a marina water taxi that takes you into town and the Aquarium i believe. Very convenient though the water taxi has a nominal fee.
The internet worked surprisingly well.
I really hate to give this hotel an “average” review, because the hotel stay itself was almost perfect, and I am pretty laid back. I’m disappointed, however, in management. We had an issue with a charge on our account that we discovered after checkout, on our way home. We called, took a few times to get through to someone.
When I finally got hold of someone, the employee stated, “I don’t know why that charge is there, I have to have my manager call you back when she’s off the phone with someone else”. I asked him specifically, “are you certain that I will receive a call from management about this charge?”. He said “yes, she’ll call you in a few minutes”. I never received a call back. I finally dealt with the issue myself by going through to my bank. I didn’t want to deal with that phone tree/phone tag again.
On another minor note, just as an FYI reference laundry: they don’t tell you this, but you have to give the laundry to one of the manager or concierge on duty. It’s deceptive, because they give you a laundry bag in the room and tell you to leave it out before 0630hrs. We left it out, and it was never picked up. I was then told, “oh you have to give it to one of us at concierge”.
Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.
Make sure to book the Beach Club, not the Harbor property. They are completely different.
We loved our stay. Great view from our balcony. Free shuttle to downtown Charleston. Poolside bar with great bartenders.
