How to Get There
I expected more from this resort. The advertising makes the appearance of it being some super 5 star resort and I was really underwhelmed. Events did not seem to run smoothly. Prices at the outdoor grill were over priced, especially the kids' menu.
This is normally a wonderful resort - quiet, well manicured and peaceful. Construction noise now has turned into a place with daily and near constant workday pounding of support beams into the earth. Our house shook with multiple and frequent pounds five days a week. It ruined our stay. Until this is finished, not recommended.
My family and I are currently staying here. It will NEVER happen again. This entire facility needs a face lift. Every part of the Wild Dunes resort is run down. No one ever seems to know what’s going on and you can’t get a straight answer from anyone. I have yet to find a decent restaurant on these grounds, staff is slow, clueless and basically everyone looks miserable who works here. The condo we are renting is totally run down and the best part is they are shutting our water off for the entire day tomorrow starting at 7:30 and they are not sure it’s going to be on by 5 p.m. Not sure how you are supposed to handle that with 4 small children. I understand that things have to be done for maintenance but why in the world would you do this at the start of busy season? Why wouldn’t you do it in the off season? I have family in Charleston so we frequent this area a lot. I know for sure I will never be back to this sad dilapidated over priced facility.
The hotel is beautiful. Our room overlooked the pool. We could open the door to the balcony and hear the ocean waves. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and a glass of champagne.
Unfortunately, the next two days were not as smooth. The hotel offers free valet. You have to call 10 minutes ahead to get your car which is understandable. But they don't have enough attendants because many times we would call and they wouldn't answer. Other times they would block the driveway by parking cars on both sides so we couldn't leave the premises. One time the shuttle driver parked in the middle if the driveway blocking several cars which caused a serious back up. Saturday night they couldn't find one guest's car.
Another issue is the doors are not insulated. As a result, you can hear people's conversations as they walk up the hall. When you are on vacation, this can be annoying especially since it occured very late at night and during the wee hours of the morning.
Lastly, housekeeping came to clean our room on checkout day at 8 am. I was still sleeping. They could have at least waited until checkout.
So, the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. They just need to fix their customer service.
Let’s me start by saying I rarely complain about travel.
I booked a 2 bedroom suite and was traveling with 2 kids.
We found this place through American Express platinum as it was advertised as part of the Hotel Collection.
Upon arrival are first room smelled of smoke. Upon request we changed room and luckily the second room was better (no smoke smell) but are “resort view” was not what I was expecting (see pic below). On the downside beds were not entirely made.
Additionally, we were awoken at 8 am to large hydraulic drill despite the sign posted throughout the resort and our balcony specifying a city ordnance noise disturbance that was supposed to be in place until 10 am.
I contacted management on 5 separate occasions ( 3 phone calls and 2 trips to guest relations) and despite that was never contacted despite being told I was.
My biggest issue was the lack of transparency and I honestly felt that we were scammed.
