Great location but needs a few things

Stayed here because of the rates and location. Couldn't ask for a better proximity to most of the restaurants and tourist areas. However, the front door does open up to the horse carriage lot and even in the cool weather of January the smell of horse manure was abundant. Check in and valet were very efficient. Room on the 5th floor and overall king suite was great size. The bathroom was small. The room definitely felt dated and you can tell there is a lot of volume that runs thru the hotel. Overall clean except for a small bug in the room. They did provide a concession for this so I do appreciate the effort. Bed was extremely comfortable. I would only stay here again if I received a discounted rate. Other than that I would go to a different hotel that was a bit more current and clean.

Booked Friday and Saturday night here for a long holiday weekend. Reservations were made 2 weeks ago by the “Hilton Application” that is currently being promoted all over the television. I chose my room and even requested extra pillows be delivered. Figured I would really impress my girlfriend on this trip. Room chosen was one that overlooked the city market in downtown Charleston and was $224 a night!! (This was a special occasion and by the way...the $224 was raised by $30 a night parking fee)

Arrived at the hotel around 9:30pm (I had called earlier in the day and advised of the late check in) and was advised that the room I chose was not available so they were putting me in a “atrium” room (located on the first floor just off the restaurant). This was a two level room with a foldout couch and tv in the lower level and a king bed with small(very small) bathroom. The view from the window was of the top of a temporary tent set up in the atrium. Our room (186) was located closer to their convention ballrooms so every morning at 6:30am we got to hear the janitor roll a trash can on casters down the bricked sidewalk...click,click,click,click for about 200 feet! Next to the side walk is a smooth concrete surface with few seams that he very easily could have rolled the trash can on to make less noise but I now know the employees don’t think outside the box here.

The location is what I guess I paid for. After this stay experience through “Hilton” I’ve learned that next time it would be smarter to stay a little distance and just pay to park at many of the different lots. You can park ALL DAY for the same amount they charged me per night at the Doubletree.

Overall the hotel is average. Carpet and furniture are almost to the point of needing to be replaced. Staff for the most part were pleasant but they openly complained to each other about situations at work. We heard two complaining to each other while cleaning the atrium and two of the wait staff complain about restaurant manager?

I’m a seasoned traveler and I’m not afraid to lay down this type of money for a room but for over $500 for 2 nights I really feel cheated by staying here. It was nice to walk across the street for the market but so much more should have been nice during this stay and the hotel let me down.

As for the Hilton App on the phone/tablet? Nothing I chose (other than the dates for my stay) was honored! Complete waste of time. I would not recommend this hotel or the Hilton App.

I enjoyed my stay at the DoubleTree as I have before. It is the perfect downtown location right beside the Market and close to so many restaurants and shops. The staff is excellent from the valet to the bellman to the front desk people and the bartender. They are all friendly, prompt, and attentive. My room was very clean, and the bed was really comfortable. I often have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms, but this time, I slept well. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again soon.

Perfect location for exploring old Charleston. Our two room suite was spacious and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were just the right amount of squishy. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Bradley was the best

We had lots of luggage because we were going on a cruise 3 days after we arrived. We had 3 rooms reserved. The valet Bradley took the luggage to each room and of course the luggage was not packed on the cart in the order of the rooms. He went above and beyond to make our arrival welcoming.
