How to Get There
We enjoyed 3 nights here at the end of October. The hotel was clean and comfortable and provided bottled water daily, was stocked with an excellent selection of toiletries, etc. The breakfast offered a wide variety of food to cater for all tastes. We found the regular shuttle bus to Langham Place/Mongkok MTR useful, although the hotel was in easy walking distance of these places as well as Ladies Market. The staff were efficient, but not overly friendly. Waterloo is a busy road, but we were not disturbed by traffic noise. Langham Place had food courts and restaurants for eating, however, they were not particularly cheap. The real touristy areas are some distance from the hotel.
Stayed for a week mid October. Location is a good 10-15 minute walk from the nearest MTR station but has a local supermarket opposite for basic provisions. There is a good local bakery a few minutes walk along Waterloo Road towards the MTR where we purchased some very tasty egg tarts for only £0.60 each. Room was an adequate size ( family room) with a double and single bed. Air con worked well and the black out curtains were a god send. The choice of channels on the Televison left a lot be to desired but we were not there for that. I booked some months in advance so that I ended up paying nearly two thirds more than the current prices (due to the regular rioting) but received no response from the hotel when I asked if I could get an up graded. Arrived at the hotel at about 745am and told could not check in until 2pm. Not something you want to hear after a 10 hour flight with no sleep. Sure they could have sorted something out. Room was clean and the bed comfortable. Could have done with a make over but it was fine. I would recommend this hotel because of the price and location. Ladies market and hundreds of restaurants are a stone throw away. And not the expensive touristy eateries either. Pool was disappointingly small and the gym poorly equipped in so much that it had one multi gym facility so that if it was being used, you had to wait for them to finish.
Booked in here by our Travel Agent for a few nights stay prior to a Cruise. Quite a big hotel (18 floors) and very busy throughout our stay, but away from the more touristy areas of say Lower Nathan Road/Harbour area and saw very few guests of Western appearance. The Hotel is not as plush or glitzy as some of the more modern hotels we saw nearer the Harbour, but nevertheless, we found it suited our needs quite adequately. However a good Makeover and refurbish would not go amiss. We had a standard, decent sized room, with adequate storage and acceptable bathroom. The big downside for us was the poor service from the lifts.
There were 4, but one was under repair and because we were only on 5th floor, others nearly always either full from the upper floors, or took ages to get to our floor; tried service lifts as back-up, but same story. The Hotel is actually situated more in the Mong Kok/ N Kowloon area of HK, and is approx 15/20 mins walk from either Mong Kok or Yau Ma Tei MTR stations. The Hotel runs a shuttle approx every 20 mins to the latter station which is close to a large Mall,Langham Place. However the traffic in this area can be quite busy, so we found it just as quick to walk. The Hotel is quite close to the Ladys' Market area and is surrounded by lots of shops and Restaurants, however we found few places that really cater for Western tourists We never ate in the Hotel, being booked in on a Room only basis, or used any of their facilities, however did purchase from the pleasant bakery attached to the Hotel though found a local bakery a couple of blocks away, which sold a wider range at a much cheaper price. We also found a local Restaurant a few doors down, where we were able to purchase a decent Breakfast, much cheaper than offered by the Hotel. For Dinner we used a couple of places in the Market area, where we had excellent food at little cost. Overall though we enjoyed our stay here, found the staff we dealt with both helpful and courteous and our room was always kept in a clean tidy condition by the Housekeeping staff. However if we ever return to HK will definitely look for somewhere nearer to the Harbour
