Our Dream Honeymoon

Just returned from the most special and beautiful honeymoon stay at this perfect hotel.

From the moment we arrived everything about this experience was incredible. We were greeted the a very warm welcome and congratulations on our recent nuptials by lovely Naomi who was very warm and hospitable. We then received personalised check in from Matthew Kum who took amazing care of us throughout our stay. Matthew was very helpful and answered lots of questions for us as this was our first time in Hong Kong. He was very knowledgable and also very friendly.

Matthew left us a personalised itinerary with tips of Hong Kong and a gorgeous card to congratulate us.

When we went to our room we were blown away by our amazing view of Hong Kong Harbour. This was exactly what we wanted on our honeymoon. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with a very deep and luxurious bath and free mini bar.

Breakfast was incredible, huge amount of choice and lots of cooking stations with food being made fresh.

We also loved the rooftop pool which is perfect for cocktails and relaxing.

We didn’t want to leave but when we did we had a very late flight so we were given a key to use shower facilities and a relaxing lounge which was so helpful.

We can’t wait to come back to hotel icon again, it is really first class in every sense

Disappointing Stay

This was the third time I had stayed at Hotel ICON, following two of some of the best hotel stays I’ve experienced. Before I start, I should say that the hotel itself is lovely, clean and well-designed. I stayed for three nights in the ‘Club 80’ room which was huge and well-appointed with wall-to-ceiling windows and a jaw-dropping view.

Unfortunately, it seemed like the standard of service had taken a real dive since my prior visits.

Breakfast on the 28th floor at the ‘Above and Beyond’ lounge was understaffed and on two consecutive mornings our coffee request was completely forgotten about. The ‘Icon breakfast’ offered two eggs any way you like them, but we were told that we weren’t allowed to order eggs benedict.

The taxis at the front of the hotel were a disorganised mess- on previous visits, the staff would find a taxi if one was not available, but this time the taxi area appeared mostly unmanned and meant we had to wait some time before someone came along. One particular service that I think Hotel ICON is missing that other hotels provide is giving you the information of the taxi you get into, in case of any trouble. That would have been appreciated.

On the last day of our stay we had a very late night flight home. I suffer from anxiety so we went to the ‘Above and Beyond’ desk to work out what the options were for staying at the hotel past our check-out time.

We couldn’t keep the current room beyond 2pm as they were all booked. That was fine and understood (although I felt that they could have offered *something* in the way of late check-out - even an hour?). The woman on the desk didn’t seem particularly interested in helping us out but we were eventually offered a room for a half-day rate. That was a disabled room that wouldn’t be available until after 3pm, which wasn’t ideal.

Unsatisfied, we went to the main desk on the ground floor - they were able to offer us a room at the same rate that we could move into immediately, which wasn’t a disabled room either. The person on that desk even asked how I was and if I needed assistance when we explained the situation. So much better than the so-called ‘Above and Beyond’ experience.

It felt very off that the desk upstairs -for which we were paying for the privilege- would give worse service in this case. I was very glad that we asked someone else for help.

Even though I’ve had two truly lovely stays at ICON, after this most recent trip, I’m not sure I’d consider staying with them again. This time they definitely didn’t go ‘above and beyond’.

One of the best hotels i die ever stay
We went for a family trip to Hong Kong
And i must say that the service level off the staf deserve a 6star rating the rooms Where Betty clean aswell as al off the hotel also the hotel manager Matthew kum made our time wonderful im verry jelous cause i wish i had a employé like that

Hè die such a Goos job with our kids that the Little one was crying when weg fly back to our home cause hè missed Matthew

Not Iconic but Barely Average

If unobstructed views of the renown Hong Kong harbour are your aim in choosing a hotel, I regret to say I wish I had NOT chosen the Hotel Icon. Situated far too left in Kowloon to get a straight on view of the urban center, and blocked by buildings that in Hong Kong fashion are not short, vistas that you recognize will not be outside your pricey hotel window. Indeed I booked a Club 80 Suite to maximize my experience and have been profoundly disappointed. Somehow looking down on roof top air conditioning units wasn't my dream scenario nor craning to see Victoria Peak.
As for the pricey Club 80 suite features, where do I begin? A shower that drips to drain like a Chinese water torture, lights that are the least intuitive I have ever encountered, TV remotes and thermostats that have required repair, and the astounding lack of a bedside telephone in a suite - these things do not add up to luxury. Nor did my phone call from the Club desk clerk, post unsuccessful thermostat repair, advising me to "put on a blanket." define service. Peninsula Hotel here I come!
Yes the hotel is training hospitality students in hotel management so some leeway needs to be given. And yes some hotel management personnel did their earnest best to please. But the Hotel Icon has a very long way to go to provide any type of decent Club level service (lounge way too small and bar inexplicably blocking the view). And it should fire its "iconic" architect who has produced suites that are maddening in their design deficiencies. And do not expect to find a bona fide concierge unless your definition of their renown "insider" knowledge is sending you a computer link you could have found on a basic google search.
Next time I will be at the Intercontinental where an unobstructed Cinerama type harbour side panorama cannot be beat OR the Peninsula for pure Iconic luxury and renown service seasoned by decades of training.

Nice hotel with excellent facilities.. good offering of a shuttle bus service as well to Harbour Town and the red line train station.. had a room with a Harbour view and the complimentary mini bar each day of 2 beers and soft drink was appreciated.. very enjoyable stay
