Chicago charmer with funky design touches, creative Midwest fare and a rooftop bar
Just east of Michigan Avenue, MileNorth mixes retro homey details like reclaimed wood and subway tile walls and a bar made of vintage card catalogs with industrial mint and cherry light fixtures and geometric wire bar stools. Upstairs, the 215 rooms have a more clean-lined modern look with modish green and orange accents. Enjoy the views from Joel Hillman’s Chicago style windows, inspired by the city’s architectural traditions.
Bed & Bath
Upstairs, the 215 rooms are spacious, bright and cozy. The bilevel entryways lend a homey feel as do pillowy beds with velevty soft throw pillows. Each room includes iPod docks, mini fridges and 32-inch flatscreen TVs (though we prefer to take in the views from the near floor-to-ceiling windows).
The lobby doubles as an inviting living room and its Barista Bar can whip up simple bites such as chorizo mac & cheese, wagyu sliders or flatbread sandwiches with lamb, black garlic, piquillo peppers and pickled shallot. And if you're looking to pump some iron, there's a 24-7 gym available.
In the Area
If you crave designer labels, walk along Michigan Avenue, where more than 400 storefronts line the city’s famous Magnificent Mile. But if it’s one-of-a-kind items you’re after, your best bets are the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods. Chicago is famous for its pizza, but it’s also known for great restaurants, including Girl & The Goat and Karyn's, run by the woman who made vegan sexy. Don't miss the laughs at the world famous Second City, where such luminaries as Dan Aykroyd, Steve Carell and Tina Fey have performed.
