Stunning architecture-themed digs in the iconic Marina City complex amid the restaurant-filled River North district
Hotel Chicago sits amid some of the city’s most iconic buildings in the Marina City complex, and its design reflects that architectural bent. Think blow-up black-and-whites highlighting details of famous Chicago buildings and walls of windows framing river and skyline views. Add to that tech perks, clean-lined furnishings and a central location, and you’ve got the perfect mix of business and pleasure.
Bed & Bath
Damask-inspired wallpaper patterns, tufted headboards and wingback armchairs in faux snakeskin add visual lushness to sun-drenched rooms. A built-in shelf desk with an Eames-style office chair make pleasant business of worker needs. Architectural photos wrap the corners of bathroom walls, and the well-stocked mini-bar offers premium indulgences from full-sized bags of Pop Chips to mini bottles of Patrón tequila.
While it lacks an in-house restaurant, Hotel Chicago offers proximity to the entire Marina City development. That includes the music club House of Blues, riverfront steakhouse Smith & Wollensky, modern supper-club-inspired Tortoise Club and the vast bowling alley 10 Pin. The lobby bar, The Chicagoan, pouring specialty drinks like the bourbon-based Old Capone, offers a central meeting place for guests coming or going.
In the Area
Marina City overlooks the newly expanded Chicago Riverwalk, with three new water-level blocks filled with cafés, kayak rentals and hang-out-friendly public spaces. Take it three blocks east to Michigan Ave. to pick up a Chicago Architectural Foundation river cruise. Just across the river, the Tony-boasting Goodman Theatre offers a worthy introduction to Chicago’s thriving arts scene. More than anything, the location offers couldn’t-be-easier access to the many restaurants of River North, including the Italian Siena Tavern from "Top Chef" hunk Fabio Viviani, old-school surf-and-turf Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf and the hidden tiki bar Three Dots and a Dash (look for it in the alley).
