How to Get There
The architecture and grounds are beautiful which is what they seem to be banking on. Location good. Slept well. Space heater good. We were really excited about staying here but were so surprised to see the rough condition of the room and shocked with the poor customer service. Our reservation included a couple of free drinks. Since we don't drink alcohol, we asked for just plain orange juice. They brought what tasted like orange Kool Aid with a shot of grenadine. Yuck. When we asked about the orange juice instead, they said there'd be an add'l charge. We've never experienced such poor customer service in all our stays in Mexico. Whoever was at reception never looked up from their cell phone when we came or went the whole time we were there. We do speak Spanish and they acted like they didn't understand. It was just rude. We asked for a wake-up call the day we needed to leave early but doubted they'd follow through. We set 2 phone alarms which woke us up because they never called. The breakfast included is at a restaurant down the street. They seat you in an area in the corner as a hotel guest. Altho it was pretty empty, the service was not great, nor was the entree.
This hotel has a great location, and very comfortable beds! The location is excellent, as you are only 5 minutes away from the main zocalo/cathedral square, and a block off Guadelupe, a pedestrian-only road for several blocks up from the zocalo. The rooms are spotless; the chambermaids are excellent. Unfortunately, the woman at the front desk was often just marginally helpful; if looking for tours, airport transportation to Tuxtla and restaurant recommendations, you're better off DIY. The wifi was rather spotty as well, appearing and disappearing mysteriously in my room and in the courtyard/general use area as well.
We stayed 2 nights and was really pleased with the room & location.
Check in was painless after a 04:00 start that day & 2 flights later it was really great to settle & checkout at 05:00 2 days later was just as easy.
We did bring a plug in mosquito killer which was needed & sorted out the insects within an hour.
Breakfast was across the road in a restaurant & was very pleasant.
After touring Mexico for 3 weeks it was lovely to have a room with space ,comfortable beds in a nice atmosphere.
This hotel had a great location, near major restaurants ex. La Captania & La Lupe, walking distance from the Cathedral. The property was well kept, clean, and very pretty. However the customer service was not good. When we booked online as per other comments on Trip advisor we requested a room away from the Main Street. That request was not honored. We spent the first night in a noisy room due to cars etc. The second night our room was changed to a better room but the front desk woman seemed annoyed. We didn’t get a remote for the tv and had to wait on that another night. We didn’t get any welcome introduction to San Cristóbal/ tour info or a map upon arrival. Very clean place but lacking people skills.
Best beds since we have been travelling. Tiny shower and toilet but there is fresh, clean towels and sheets and the laundry is really cheep. Nobody speaks English. The hotel is part of the old town, historic, beautifully maintained and close to the traffic-free streets and lots of restaurants.
