Wonderful treatment of the staff, Mr. Art in the reception desk of Shangri-La Hotel
Reviewed 4 days ago

We are enjoying our anniversary at Shargri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. We were surprised to find our room welcome us in an unexpected way when we returned to the room from local exploration outside the hotel. Our rooms were full of things of celebration prepared by Mr. Art, the staff of Shangri-La Hotel's reception desk. This year's anniversary has become an unforgettable day in our marital life by his warm and very careful treatment of us. I don't know how to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Art and other staffs of the hotel. They are really awesome not just as staffs but as humans who can share joy and memorable days with customers. I absolutely would like to stay at Shangri-La Hotel when I return to Chiang Mai next time.

A week of relaxing and testing the waters for a semi-retirement destination

Our 1st time to Thailand, so we booked a Horizon Club room (used these at other locations too), and right from the 1st meet and greet until the end of our stay, we felt like it was a home away from home. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was nicely laid out, quiet, plenty of space, really comfortable bed, overlooking the pool/garden/mountains, and it was always kept immaculate by housekeeping. The Horizon club itself, although a bit smaller than others was cosy, great food/canapes and surprisingly a great variety including some local fare. The horizon club staff were just fantastic and also suggested some local destinations for us to visit. We also had some great food at the other locations onsite (Main breakfast, lobby lounge High tea) and a special evening dinner event by Marco (from a Michelin star restaurant). We also made use of the great facilities onsite (well equipped gym, jacuzzi, outside pool and spa, plus the CHI massages were sensational - had to go back a second time before we flew out). The Concierge team were great, helped us organise an evening dinner at a local /more authentic Thai Restaurant with an hour of local music and dancing show - a fantastic memory for us, plus helped organise a day trip into the mountains to see some temples, plus what we also liked was we booked 2 afternoons (4 hours each) using the Hotel car and driver to take us around both local spots and into the mountains so we could assess the layout of the area and see what other accommodation might be suitable for longer term stays (1-3 months), but also we wanted to visit some of the gardens & mountain cafes, so we felt extremely safe and knowing that we could easily get back to the hotel as some of these places do not have much public transport nor taxis just waiting to take you home. Although Chiang Mai is a lot smaller, slower pace than the big cities we're used too, we loved the relaxing feeling of the Shangri-La, which is also quite close to the old city and night markets, so I'm sure we'll be back a few times to stay again for 1-2 weeks to just relax, enjoy great food and get reminded what being treated as special really means.

Only place to stay in Chiang Mai

This hotel is the only place to stay in Chiang Mai! It was clean and most importantly, the staff is exceptional! America could learn a lot from this hotel on how to treat customers. The staff is observant and doesn't hesitate to ask if you need assistance. If you do need assistance, they go above and beyond to ensure that you are satisfied.

Furthermore, the hotel is in the perfect location! You can walk anywhere from here (numerous markets within 5 to 10 minute walk) or quickly grab a Tuk Tuk for a cheap ride. Don't be alarmed by the security screening at the front door; the area around the hotel is 100% safe. We walked every where and never once did we have an issue or feel unsafe.

Great experience

We are celebrating an anniversary and came as a family. The hotel went the extra mile to make our stay great. Hotel staff were amazing. The room was decorated with flowers and we were given chocolates and wine on arrival. Pool was nice and the sauna and steam facilities were also great. Definitely worth the extra cost for a special occasion.
