How to Get There
I stayed with my family members for couple of days at Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai. I cannot say anything else but job well done, it was a very pleasant experience overall for us.
Front desk staff and concierge especially were very helpful and responsive to any requests and any inquiries. Simply thumbs up!
This is an old hotel and shows some wear. The carpet in our room had several spots cut out and replaced with new which really stood out. Very large rooms and bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was extensive and very good. A bit strange......you had to go through security and all your luggage through X-Ray to get in. We checked in very late and left the next morning so didn't get a chance to use the pool area or explore the garden. It looked beautiful!
It's very upsetting to check online prices for a pedicure, and it's advertised for 250 THB, but after they finished the pedicure they charged us 900 THB for the two of us, saying we had the deluxe treatment. It's not acceptable to charge us, saying "you booked as hotel guests" what does this mean: you are just guests and we can rip you off by charging almost double, without informing you that we're giving you a more expensive treatment, you didn't even ask for? The boss said this shouldn't happen, but insisted on the higher price anyway. It's a disgrace being located inside the Shangrila hotel shop area, scamming people like this! We don't recommend to support such business practices! Overall there was nothing deluxe about the service, and even if it was 250THB, it's not great. Don't waste your time and money there!
As one would expect, Shangri-La delivered as promised. Being Jade members, we got to check in early, our rooms upgraded. Breakfast was a good spread. Vegetarian options, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Thai and Western cuisine. We were pretty much spoilt for choice. Security was tight. We had to walk through metal detectors to enter the hotel. We are not sure if it’s due to the recent bombings in Sri Lanka?? Nevertheless, we felt very safe and secure. Location wise is ok. You’ll need to take a taxi to the old city as it’s quite a distance away. Transportation is fairly cheap, about 80 baht each way. All in all ... comfortable.
Absolutely love this hotel, it is really a hotel we love, excellent staff, beds are so comfortable, excellent swimming pool, great location.
We have stopped here twice and will certainly be stopping again when we are in Chiang Mai.
