How to Get There
Decided to stay for 1 night, I paid about 115gbp for that stay, without breakfast.
To me this is worth 50gbp at best.
First the overdone security measures and lack of friendliness from security agents gave the tone to my stay when I arrived with a motorbike and was treated very poorly by Security agents, throughout my stay every time I would come back to the hotel, even when I showed my room card.
Then the reception experience was nothing better. Was the least friendly welcoming I have seen in this trip. Very impersonal - almost felt I was checking-in at the airport with a low cost company.
No information provided whatsoever with respect to the facilities or whatnot, not even with respect to the Loy Krathong festival which was happening. And there was no queue so they had all the time if they wanted...
The room itself was very big - and I really liked the shower which had lots of pressure.
But gosh I felt like I was sleeping in a dorm - I could totally hear the people in the room next door chatting. And they chatted a lot - until midnight and then in the middle of the night around 3am. and then in the morning around 9am again.
The pool experience was good - outside of the food menu which was massively overpriced and basic dishes.
On check out I wasn't asked about my stay - I guess they knew most people wouldn't enjoy the stay and at least had the politeness not to ask.
Will not return and will most likely avoid Shangri-La worldwide.
I wish I had gone to Le Méridien which was about the same price and looks much better.
Exceptional service at this hotel. My wife and I stayed for 6 night this month and the experience was fantastic. Room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was fantastic with a variety of delicious food to choose from (far better breakfast than other 5* hotels). Would like to thank the concierge, housekeeping and front desk team for taking special care of us. Would like to especially thank Kae at the front desk for going the extra mile for us, making it a fantastic experience and holiday for us. Small details can go a long way in customer service and experience!
We enjoyed a few days staying at the Shangri La hotel in Chiang Mai. Lovely well appointed room on the 5th floor. Big comfy bed. Tv. Safe, mini bar, big bathroom - couldn’t fault it.
Beautiful hotel, very nice varied breakfast included.
My only criticism would be too many noisy, badly behaved children at the hotel. Particularly at breakfast & also at the hotel pool. But this isn’t the hotels fault but the fault of the parents.
That aside, we had a lovely stay & the hotel is in a great location for the night markets & sightseeing.
