How to Get There
The approach through the well-manicured grounds and golf course is very impressive but the walkway to the hotel reception littered with cigarette butts is unpleasant.
It is a shame that the hotel itself is tired and needs attention.
Our classic king room was spartan. One bedside lamp is not enough for a king size bed! The bathroom had a separate bath and shower. Sadly the shower showed signs of black mould. We stayed for two nights and expected the bed to be fully made up for the second night. Instead, the duvet had just been thrown up and straightened, the bottom sheet still showed the impressions of where we had lain the previous night.
Breakfast was the major disappointment. There were four staff on duty, their function appears to be to simply check names off the list and then to stand and chatter amongst themselves. For a hotel of this category it is poor to have to help oneself to stewed tea and coffee from a thermos pump. The cooked breakfast buffet looked as if it had been there for days – one wonders who was going to eat the mountain of sausages, beans and bacon in one morning’s serving.
The dining room cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The feet of the tables were thick with dust.
There was a wedding party on the Saturday night and the dining room and terrace certainly showed the after effects on the Sunday morning. Confetti and wine bottle tops scattered around the dining room carpet, half full wine glasses, confetti and its cardboard boxes littering the terrace.
Arrived May 17th with 5 friends for a golfing break, played premier course Friday it was a good course with iffy greens, we dined at the ranulf restaurant that night which was a big disappointment, I ordered a sirloin steak, the cooking and quality of the steak is a case of seeing is believing.... terrible... the service was pretty bad, I complained to the management and things improved the following night .... but let's not get away with the fact this place needs a major overhaul to come close to it's strange reputation of being good... in the lounge bar 2 of the 3 lagers was off on the Friday night. The sauna, rooms and the golf courses all were pretty good but are not matched by the food quality, cheffing.
Sadly I would not be recommending or visiting this place again.
As part of a group of 8, we stayed at the hotel & golf club for an overnight. The Hotel is good, I shared a twin room with a friend & it was large & well appointed. We had bed, breakfast & evening meal as a package deal with 2 rounds of golf included. The evening meal was very nice, fine dining, very nice & good quality however the one issue I had was the portion size, but that's because I have a big appetite. Breakfast is buffet style, very tasty with all the usual items available, again good quality. I would definitely recommend.
Stayed here recently for a dinner, B&B and 2 rounds of golf deal.
Staff very friendly on arrival and gave our group room upgrades. The rooms themselves were decent, only gripe was the fridge didn’t work.
The evening meal was very good, there’s a choice of the set menu or £25 towards the regular menu. Breakfast in the morning was a well stocked buffet.
The 2 courses were in good condition for resort courses, the Championship course was relatively long but very gettable!
The Premier Course was certainly the better of the 2. Some very tight and long par 4’s and spectacular par 3’s towards the end.
We got the whole package for £119pp which I thought was superb value.
Our golf party of 24 enjoyed the whole package .Rooms and food excellent the staff very helpful.A special thanks to Donna and Emma F for looking after us before and after our golf on the Premier course . Alan C
