A jewel in Crete’s crown, Cretan Pearl Resort & Spa is situated along a scenic and rocky stretch of shore, just under two miles from the beach made famous by the film Zorba the Greek. Given a rejuvenating facelift in 2015, rooms here have been transformed into havens of minimalist luxury, beautifully presented in tasteful, neutral color schemes.
A full range of cosmetic and aesthetic treatments are on offer at the sprawling Ayus Spa, where you can book yourself in for a bit of pampering. With two seawater swimming pools on hand, you’ll won’t even need to venture down to the beach if you prefer to soak up the views from a sun lounger, within a cocktail umbrella’s length of Eros poolside bar.
How to Get There
Landed on June 13th. First impressions were good. Upgraded to a suite as there were three of us. Lovely views. Clean rooms friendly staff. We were talking to an Australian couple in the pool who had been there the week before us. They had been very disappointed with their stay but did say that after a lady on her honeymoon had gone absolutely radio in the dining room about the food and service there had been men shipped in and a 100% turn around with everything... which was when we landed!! Which is why i couldn't understand the reviews I'd read regarding food and service as I honestly couldn't fault the place. It would appear things hadn't always been just so prior to our landing! The food was out standing but the down side was it wasn't hot enough. One evening when we ate early it was spot on. Mushrooms came out of the kitchen for breakfast and they were virtually cold a couple of times...very tasty but just not warm enough. Lunch poolside was delicious with huge portions. Very enjoyable. The music round the pool was too loud and too Cluby but fair play to the entertainment staff they listened and toned everything down..think they played Ed Sheeran a few times😉 but as back ground music which was perfect not that I think music is particularly needed outside as the music from inside the hotel which was 40's style could be heard outside also! Staff all so helpful although they did try to charge us tax for staying there twice as there was simply a lack of understanding that we had already paid.. the bar opposite reception needs more than one member of staff especially if people are ordering cocktails. Ten minutes is just too long to be waiting for a drink.
Every member of staff in the hotel were very helpful and kind. The lower pool near the houses was a bit smelly although it looked lovely from high up. Shower didn't work could only use hand shower and air conditioning had to be turned on. Staff were all young and I think being trained as it was slow at times to get a drink but that's no mither and I'm sure as summer is here they will have it off to a fine art come July!!
Would definitely go back. Out of the way location which was just what we wanted but shuttle or walk to the beach which is worth it but jelly fish are a floating so be careful!!
9 out of 10. A bit of twerking and the place will be spot on. Would certainly go back for the view and sunsets alone. Thank you for a lovely holiday♥️
This hotel is absolutely amazing! It has very nice, clean and spacious rooms with big pools! The staff is very friendly! The food is diverse and mouthwatering. For those interested to know the type of food, I would categorise it as Mediterranean with many Cretan traditional dishes!
Very nice hotel located on the see with a beautiful view on the mountains. Great staff with special thanks to Vanessa and Christine at reception the restaurant staff and Martin and Donnie from the animation team entertaining us at the pool. Thanks for a very special time and all the effort!
Although the hotel was a little far from town it. Was very relaxing and comfortable.
It was very clean which was a job as it was almost all white.
The classic style and understated elegance added to the beautiful setting and complimented the glorious sunsets.
Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent well mannered staff in no particular order Yianni who handled our luggage with a smile. Roula the helpful receptionist.
Doni and Martin our entertainment staff who were fabulous and friendly.
Katerina who multitasked in the bar and at breakfast and lunch
Artemis the restaurant Manager who was knowledgeable and helpful over and beyond.
Not forgetting the tall dark haired female bartender who made the best cocktails ever (especially the Pina colada)
you must visit the spa for your treatments Effe and Desponina knew what they were doing it was worth every euro.
Finally a big shout out to Vanessa guest relations Manager who added to our experience.
We will definitely return and can highly recommend this hotel and it’s staff.
Annie and Maxine
