How to Get There
What awaits you in the historic Metropol (which in fact has its own historian, so much history the hotel has to offer) makes up for any long taxi ride (Airport -hotel 1.5 hours). We are allowed to attend a dinner first. With vodka, which has increased in all its variety. So we flush the dust with a horseradish liquor and smoked pear brandy from the soul. In addition, there's spoon caviar, which, by the way, always makes the more than sumptuous breakfast buffet, then accompanied by champagne and harp sounds. A Russian start to a luxury day. In the evening, however, we first enjoy a soup with caviar, rich salmon with caviar and champagne sauce, a veal fillet in a cucumber coat and étagèrs full of homemade chocolates. After all, hospitality is a top priority in Moscow, there can never be a lack of food, so there is always plenty of it. And - in Moscow there is a great culture of dining anywhere. Nobody eats food at home, there's no time for meal preparation due to traffic jams and energetic work. So eating is three times a day abroad, breakfast is offered in the Metropol. The result is a huge restaurant offer in Moscow, Ukrainian and Gregorian are very high in the course. But now finally in the Deluxe Room. 17 of the 120 rooms have now been polished to a modern high-gloss, in subtle gray and earth tones, provided with feathery, voluminous duvets and eliar box spring beds, the bathrooms wrapped in fresh marble. Again chocolates. In the state rooms of the hotel over whole floors pictures and paintings of the most famous personalities of this world, from Stalin to Michael Jackson. A tête à tête of international prominence and historical images of the hotel, some 100 years old. That is impressive! The film of the hotel comes up in September on we-take-it.com!
Stayed here recently and had an enjoyable stay. Slight mix up with reception on bed arrangements on arrival but that was dealt with swiftly. Staff are quite friendly, hotel is in a perfect location (10 mins walk from Red Square) and the rooms are a good size. I'd say the rooms are comfortable but not lavish, but I was only in there to sleep. I'd stay here again on my next trip.
We just returned from a 5 day visit to Moscow. We spent 4 nights at Hotel Metrpol. The location is fantastic with most of the major sights within walking distance. We had a room just above the standard. It was very spacious, very clean, a large bathroom, king size bed, nice old furniture, and large windows. It certainly beats out and out classes most other 5 star hotels we've stayed in. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
We feel they could be more upfront with certain things like telling the cost of the daily newspapers and the airport transfers. But overall it's a wonderful classic hotel.
What a great visit to Moscow & stay at the Hotel Metropol. Not only did our experience exceed expectations - that were based on reading the book "A Gentleman In Moscow - but it turned out to be a top destination on our long Europe trip. The staff was very attentive & friendly...I especially enjoyed sitting in the Lobby Bar where there are a number of special drinks themed after the book. Service & comradie was superbly provided by Artur, David & Frank. We did the full Russian Tea Service for dinner our last night there orchestrated by David. Fantastic. The breakfast buffett was the most complete & delicious for any hotel visited. We were also given extra, attentive service by hotel management based on our quest to see as much of the hotel that was mentioned in the book. Without saying, the hotel location is also great since it's right next to the Kremlin/Red Square. This Hotel is well worth planning a visit to - and I would give it top billing (Five Star) on any tour guide rating / book.
We stayed at the Metropol for 4 nights and were upgraded to a junior suite. The room was superb with loads of space and every convenience that one could wish for. Breakfasts were the best we’ve had anywhere in terms of quality and choice and the dining room was simply stunning with its high, decorative ceiling and mirrored walls. Add to this the harpist playing in the background, and you had an amazing and decadent experience that we wouldn’t have missed for the world. Service was excellent and we were left wanting for nothing. Never once however did any member of staff break into a smile but we quickly learned that this was true of people throughout Moscow. Location couldn’t be better for Red Square etc and the city centre metro stops. Couldn’t revcommend the Metropol highly enough.
