How to Get There
Friends recommended this hotel, and it is excellent, much nicer than you might expect from the price. Huge bath with window opening on the street, so lots of fresh air. Large bedroom with nice bedding. Great location, quiet, good restaurant, helpful staff. We will be back.
Our first visit to Puebla, and we were fortunate to have picked CasaReyna. This will not be our last visit to Puebla, and we will definitely stay here again. Terrific location, luxury rooms at a great price, professional staff, terrific food, and spotless and immaculate property.
I loved my stay at Casareyna. The rooms are enormous and impeccably clean, it's surprisingly tranquil and quiet despite being in the 4th-largest city in Mexico, the bed was super comfy, it's walking distance to everything; and I felt very safe walking alone in the day and early evening. But for me, the crowning touch was the rooftop heated pool and jacuzzi. Terrific!
The free breakfast was continental style, with a fruit salad, coffee, juice, homemade bread, and a puzzling plate of dry granola. On my second morning there, I tried to order an egg for a little protein (I told them I understood I'd have to pay extra) but it never arrived, so I simply skipped the free breakfast the rest of the week. For dinner, I had "Mole Poblano de la Abuela Ángela" (Grandmother Angela's Mole Poblano), which was rich and delicious. Go hungry - it's very filling! - but do not miss this mole poblano. The restaurant has won awards for their mole, and after one taste, it was clear they were well earned!
Some tips about the area and nearby shopping:
* There's a little shopping plaza across the street. Sanborn's has an ATM and a mid-range restaurant. There's also a movie theater showing Spanish-language films, and a number of mall-type shops.
* Frida's restaurant, in the plaza, had the most amazing singer/guitarist performing ballads on Wednesday night ("Simplement Chema:), and I understand they have music Weds through Sun. I only sampled the flan here, but it was quite good.
* Cholula is a must see. It's about a 20-minute cab from the centro historico of Puebla ride, but there's plenty to do and it's a great day trip from Casareyna.
* With the great exchange rate, I did a lot of shopping...
>There's a Talavera workshop about four blocks away from the hotel called Talavera de La Luz. It's on Av. Don Juan de Palafox y. Mendoza 1413, Barrio de Analco. The staff are friendly and do *not* pressure you to buy, which is refreshing. I walked right by the place because their door is always closed, but they open at 8 a.m. - you just need to ring the bell.
>Within a few blocks you'll also find a blown glass workshop, Antigua Fabrica de Vidrio "La Luz," on Calle 3 Ote. 1018, Barrio de Analco.
> After I kept seeing the same designs in every shop, a NY Times article led me to a unique handmade sterling and gemstone jewelry at Manos de la Tierra on Plazuela los Sapos. Another spot where I found some unique designs was Centro Joyero Manos Mexicanas close to the Zocalo on Palafox and Mendoza 223.
All in all, I loved Casareyna for its location, convenience, cleanliness, security, polite staff, and the heated pools. I left a week ago and I'm already finding myself searching low-fare flights and dreaming of going back to Puebla and Casareyna!
We stayed here recently and found this hotel to be one of the best places we have stayed in the world. The staff are friendly, attentive and competent. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. They are decorated in a way that is soothing. We highly recommend staying here. It was very quiet and we got an incredible night’s rest.
We enjoyed the restaurant as well! We will stay here again.
Everything about CasaReyna was fabulous: the rooms, the restaurant, the spa, the massage! But maybe the best was the art. What an amazing selection. From the pieces in the rooms to stairwells, there was amazing eye candy everywhere.
