Pool disappointed.

We took a trip to Puebla to show my boyfriend my poblana side. I wanted to book a hotel near zocalo. After researching online I found this hotel. I wanted a pool for sure. Arriving at the hotel they welcomed us. Staff was super friendly. The hotel layout is awesome. Super hipster ish. Only thing that disappointed me was the pool. Based on the pictures it looked a lot different than what it actually was. Looked more like a fountain than anything. I still wanted to get in. But both days we stayed the pool was dirty. Not an extreme case. But not maintained. I kept walking by it throughout the day to see if maintenance was done, sadly it wasn’t. I didn’t mention it to the staff because honestly I felt like that something that should’ve been done on its own. The location of the hotel is awesome. Very close to everything, walking distance from zocalo. There’s an awesome beer place across the street for those looking for craft beer. I felt safe the whole time I was there. 4/5 only because the hotel pool was disappointing. Other than that we loved our stay here and would recommend this place to others. The room has all the amenities. Highs ceilings. Spacious. Loved the lighting.

You get what you pay for? In this case, I HIGHLY DOUBT so...

This is the extended version of the original because booking has a limited amount of characters that I can type. I liked the friendliness of the staff. I disliked the part where I was ignored and had to have my bf step in. The place has a good concept going on but has a long way to go to achieve true 4 star quality.

I didn't appreciate being dismissed. I also didn't appreciate that I was told "when you check out you can fill out a questionnaire that the owners will read"....what service did that do for me if I had just checked in and I was already miserable with two more nights to go!? A/C was extremely noisy: management dismissed it with a "I check the AC everyday" There was too much light going into the rooms, couldn't sleep. Their response: past 12am: we can see if we can turn off some of the hotel lights. Still couldn't sleep. Past 2am: we were switched to a different room that had "natural light" come in from an open air space from behind an open bathroom floor (marina) and I guess really bright "natural " AC light. We hardly got any sleep and my partner, who is a light sleeper, did not get any sleep. Another bothersome issue for us, we live together yes, but definitely do NOT like hearing each other's necessities every time we had to use the bathroom. Honestly, we were shocked to have booked a "4 star hotel" and had such a horrible experience that definitely hindered our first time in Puebla because we were sleep deprived. El Sueno means "the dream" but we definitely did not have any dreams that one night. Furthermore, we were originally scheduled to spend 3 nights there but could not make it past the first night and had to check out early. Fortunately, through some arguing, we were able to cancel the other two nights. Unfortunately, a FULL rate was charged for that night and not was we had paid per night. We feel really taken advantage of. Am I supposed to be grateful that I was refunded some of my money on a nonrefundable fare? I don't think so when an alleged 4 star hotel does not deliver and is not up to standard of any other 4 star hotels that we've stayed at...and we've traveled quite extensively both for business and leisure. We did not get what we paid for.
I honestly don't get how this place has such great ratings, maybe those that don't have a great experience have not bothered to share? Or is it that some of this travel websites omit such criticism because it will affect their bookings and they just don't post extensive negative reviews?

i.e. even one of the hotel attendants blurted out that our complaint about the light going through had been mentioned by other guests (and I guess they continue to ignore our complaints). I don't believe, that at least that part, this issue is not easily solved by adding blackout curtains/blinds...small investment in the long run and better experience for its guests. Lastly, the pool was dirty and the jacuzzi empty/unavailable.

Great location and excellent rooms

The location is great, a calm oasis from the busy street outside and within easy walking distance of most sights in beautiful Puebla. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and very quiet and lots of extras are provided - slippers, robes. The staff were helpful and friendly . We used the jacuzzi and steam room on one occasion which were ok but not a great experience ! Breakfast is very good although a bit misleading as we had 'breakfast included' rate but this is only small bowl of fruit , tea/coffee and toast - everything else is extra - all excellent quality and imaginative and individually cooked but not the usual buffet style. The restaurant for lunch and dinner is excellent with a great view from the balcony in the evening or in a shady ,pretty courtyard for lunch. It was very relaxing and a great choice for our 3 days in Puebla.
