How to Get There
This is a lovely historic hotel with many original features(loved the tiled floors) and a modern block linked on behind the old house. Our room was large with a view over the river and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was well equipped with large free standing bath and a separate shower cubicle. We liked the sliding door arrangement for privacy.
Excellent choice for breakfast and staff throughout the hotel are all friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the morning walking tour arranged by the hotel and the lovely lady accompanying us really brought the history of Malacca to life as well as giving us lots of info for our couple of days here.
Only downside was a large group having a special meal and gin tasting in the restaurant. Their food was described to them, course by course and sounded amazing. Made us feel a bit excluded and it would have been lovely to have had the opportunity to try the same food even though our meals from the main menu were very good.
Would definitely stay here again,if visiting this interesting town.
Stayed here for 2 nights on a tour of Peninsular Malaysia and really there's little to fault. Old part of colonial style hotel is a front for a modern accommodation block behind. Rooms are nicely designed and ours had a great view of the river. Some fittings/furnishings were a little tired but bed was super comfortable so no complaints. Staff were all charming and hotel run tour of downtown Malacca was excellent. Restaurant provides an excellent breakfast, dinner menu is good, however on the evening we were there a large group were being served a gourmet menu where each course was introduced by the chef. It sounded fabulous but we felt belittled as the dishes were not available to us mere residents! This is the main reason I dropped the rating a point.
I have previously stayed in Malacca and wondered how could I have missed this little gem. Looking for a feel of grand old style heritage with a local flavour-this is the place to stay. Friendly staff, good service and authentic food. Do not miss the spa-different experience in a good way. Very much enjoyable. We also made us of the meeting room facilities, which worked well for a smaller group of people- 20 people, it can accommodate a bigger group, as meeting rooms can open up.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights and were sorry to leave. The room was exceptionally comfortable and peaceful. An aperitif in the evening followed by lovely Kristang cuisine accompanied by the pianist and friendly waiters gave us two evenings to always remember fondly. The staff were so friendly and attentive, we'd love to return to see them, especially Alvin.
We have just experienced a most wonderful "Colonial Ambience" in Malacca. Our first visit to Melaka and it was the perfect place to stay, smaller, luxury hotel with the most friendly staff. We took part in the complimentary guided history walking tour of the old city, Kristang private cooking lessons - incl. market visit to buy all ingredients, quiet pool area and massage rooms. Hotel is river side, close to everything and yet away from the busy "big" new development precinct. ALL staff went above and beyond with service, a few still with Portuguese heritage. Quaint but elegant bar has their own Malacca Gin - wonderful. Hotel was not "on radar" of most travel agents so glad we insisted on this mansion style smaller hotel. We will definitely stay again.
Cheers and enjoy
