Oriental opulence, sublime sushi and a rooftop bar combine in a former grand palace in downtown Budapest

The Look

Housed in the magnificently restored Klotild Palace in downtown Budapest, the Buddha Bar Hotel is an eclectic mashup of Oriental opulence and contemporary industrial design. Chinese silks, Urushi lacquered furniture, dragon motifs and accents in dark brown, gold and monk robe–orange are all used to great effect in the guestrooms and public spaces. The trapezoidal floor plan of the palace gives way to an inner courtyard turned Zen rock garden, and two separate hotel wings are clad in white stucco, connected by an LED-illuminated steel and glass footbridge.

Bed and Bath

Guestrooms have a streamlined ergonomic simplicity (everything is push-lock, there’s not a door knob or protruding object in sight). A dark brown and gray palette is livened up by splashes of gold, scarlet acrylic wardrobe doors, plush throws and crafty mood lighting. Bathrooms in the Executive Rooms have rainfall showers, and the tubs are large enough to bathe a baby elephant. The flat-screen TVs are equally huge. Minibars are stocked with an impressive wine selection, including bottles from the St. Andrea winery, in northern Hungary.

Designed to look like an Asian temple of sorts, the two-tier Buddha Bar Restaurant is tricked out with colonial-style furnishings, Japanese trinkets and a giant Buddha. The sushi-heavy menu takes inspiration from the Pacific Rim, and there’s a fine selection of sake. In keeping with the hedonistic eclecticism, Siddhartha Café serves a foie gras–topped omelet at breakfast. The Lobby Bar plays the brand’s trademark chill-out tunes and serves potent cocktails, and the Klotild Bar is topped by a retractable glass roof with views of Buda Castle. East continues to meet West at the Buddhattitude Spa, where traditional treatments are offered alongside ayurvedic massages.

The room was well appointed and comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful with a large tub and rain head shower. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Also this hotel is located close to sites, shopping and restaurants.

Amazing hotel, great location

This hotel made our trip perfect. Really well located. 10 minutes from the Main Square where the walking tours meet and 15 minutes from the Partying district (Jewish area) with the Ruin pubs. Very tastefully decorated and comfortable room with amazing full bathroom (the toilet seat was heated which was pretty funky!). Room was fully air conditioned which was very welcome after being outside all day in the heat. The modern hotel is housed inside a cool old building. Very happy with our choice!

Nice but boring

Well I stayed at this hotel fever I had a better experience from buddha hotel in Prague. Unfortunately it was not as good as I thought. The hotel is petty boring and you ajpmmpt find on one at the lobby bar. More life needed to make this hotel a good one.
