How to Get There
If anyone grew up in the South, they might know about St. Simons Island in the southern coast of Georgia. It's 45 miles from Savannah and it's the place where all the "Southern Wealthy Folks" used to vacation. Old money, new money and celebs have carved out their coastal retreats in this small Southern coastal town-- a town dripping with Southern hospitality as well as beautiful Spanish moss. It's the "richest, most exclusive and inaccessible club" in the world (at least in 1904 it was), so why not go there? Famous monied people like J.P. Morgan, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt, Marshall Field, and William Rockefeller are just a few examples of people that had "winter cottages" here. There is even the ultra exclusive "Sea Island," right nearby, where you can't even get on the island unless you have a condo, a home, a room reservation or Black American Express card. But the King &Prince on St. Simons Island is open to anybody. It's a stately establishment and one of my favorite places to eat and stay. Also, it is one of the few places where one can actually eat on the ocean. I've been going to the King & Prince ever since I was a kid. I love it.
Stayed for the weekend at this property. Public areas are really nice. The historic building is beautiful. Our guestroom needed some regular maintenance in a bad way.
Texture ceiling coating was peeling off of the bathroom ceiling. The recessed light over the tub was loose from the ceiling. Tile grout was pretty dirty.
Pillows were too soft for my liking, but the bed was comfy.
From moment ONE we were made to feel at home and this included our 9 pound four legged traveler. Our room was in the building that is dedicated to pets and was very nice. We would have liked to have been ocean front but TOTALLY appreciate the chance to bring our "Kilani" with us and really appreciate that the Hotel assigns a pet building for the convenience of non pet travelers. The entire property is first class from the pool, grounds, lobby, parking, rooms, The staff is over the top professional but "real".
I played golf and the King and Prince Golf Club. It's a MUST. My best words is that it is spectaculrely unique. I've played most of the finest resort and private golf clubs in the US and Hawaii (except Agusta), this experience will stand out in my top 5. YOU MUST DO IT !!! I'll review the course separatly.
Keep up the GREATNESS !!!!
The whole island is pet friendly, including the beach. TY TY TY, St Simons !!!
