5 Stars for Effort

I always prefer a hotel with character. For a very reasonable price it was easy to pick this turn of the century hotel over a Hampton Inn. As an iprefer member they asked what view I wanted. With its small windows and limited exciting views, I would have liked a larger room. But the staff were beyond friendly. From the top hat wearing Valet to the front desk to the bartenders to housekeeping ( who thanked me in the hallway) for staying with them: it was 5 star all the way. I liked the Aveda products and the salon quality hairdryer. The bed was comfy and the room quiet. There is so little left of any original interior ( so it’s all been redone a long time ago) ) I guess my complaint is that the decor is overall very dated and tired. With so many old buildings being spectacularly renovated : this one felt very “granny”. I’d stay here again. I would just understand what I’m getting. If that’s a great staff I’ll take it.

This hotel is kinda fuddy duddy, I mean they have a guy in a top hat and tails at the main entrance, there's little old rich guys with Botox and sweaters thrown over their shoulders in the lobby, trays of booze for sale next to the television. The accommodations are very nice, beds are very comfortable although overly soft pillows with no neck support gave us headaches, but Aveda toiletries were a great touch, the location is great, and the restaurant is actually great, make sure to get breakfast there if you go, but just be prepared for the spray tan and loafers crowd.

This is IT! Stay Here!

This is a grand hotel and a grand property. I have stayed at many properties in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Area and I will never stay anywhere else at this point. If you are traveling to the St. Paul area, this is your spot. It is in walking distance to plenty of restaurants and little shops and is very centrally located. Super clean, excellent staff and great customer service! See you soon.
