How to Get There
We loved everything about the Fairmont, great location, wonderful staff, excellent food. The Spa was a great time, pricey but not out of line for what you'd expect at an upscale resort. Beautiful views from our room and all across the resort, we will definitely stay at the Fairmont again!
Nice hotel; stayed in north tower w/garden views over the golf course. If you are getting a garden view room go with one overlooking the golf course/outside of hotel; the garden view rooms looking over the courtyard/interior facing don’t have as much privacy -ie lot of people walk through the courtyard and can see in your room unless you have the shade closed. Overall room was nice and spacious w/small lanai; bed was comfy and room was nice w/typical hotel amenities;
Beach is pretty small and crowded; if you have kids, its probably good but otherwise I’d suggest taking the 15 minute walk down the beach trail to the Mauna Lani Hotel beach - its nicer and much bigger and less crowded (and since they are currently closed, you’ll have it all to yourself!) or driving over to Hapuna
Breakfast buffet was good but as others have said, its VERY crowded; we were there at 7:30AM most mornings and had a 30 minute wait every day. Not exactly the way you want to start of a relaxing day.
The beach bar is nice as is the upstairs bar overlooking the ocean (which is great for early evening cocktails and snacks. Food prices were pretty expensive but that’s to be expected and typical for Hawaii hotels.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at the hotel. The amenities were wonderful. The dining at Brown's and orchid court was excellant. The spa services and gym were top notch. The rooms were pretty. The beds were heavenly comfortable. The staff were very warm and welcoming always with a smile anxious to help. We will definitely come again.
Great hotel, location was good for doing things around that side of the island. Beach area was great for the little kids, not a great area for bigger kids, beaches just north are better for older kids for body boarding ect. Restaurant was good, front desk was great, pool area was great, no sun screen available for use unless you buy it. We did see whales from shore and turtles, snorkeling was good from the little cove.
My review will be similar to the others ones here. The Orchid is a wonderful hotel and the five nights went by much too fast. The grounds were beautiful and the staff (everyone) was friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and offered a range of options. Dinner at Brown’s was the best meal on the Big Island.
A resort hotel is not something I would normally book. It is a bit isolated and a splurge but it proved to be perfect for some relaxation in a stunning location. The Orchid is exactly what you’d expect from a luxury resort: impeccable service, gorgeous location and accommodations.
Tip: Make sure you read the daily activities sheet. There are many events available on the property. Also I would definitely recommend the buffet breakfast. It has an incredible selection.
