How to Get There
We travel a lot, and this place was the least diverse we've ever stayed. We, for real, could count on one hand how many black and non white/European ethnicities we saw our entire stay. I ran into someone I know being a whole state away. She proceeded to ask me why I was there because her grandparents have been lifelong members of the resort... Let's just say I know her to have very traditional views and I wasn't surprised that she was surprised to see me there :-). Although the guests kind of stared at my family as to why we were there, the staff did not treat us any differently. I did find some of the meals overpriced but I did like the accommodations. Our room was across the street away from the beach :-( however it was a nice room and I really liked the bathroom in the shower. Love the robes and slippers that they gave you and you can get a golf cart to take you to any location you want. What's extra nice is that the pool is on the beach (such a great view) and the beach is only for people who stay at the hotel... So that's super nice. If I had to choose I could have taken my money and spent it at a hotel that wasn't a resort and just got a Beachside room and went locally out to eat versus coming to this hotel that seemed quite snobby and exclusive and not diverse at all... I seriously felt like at some point I was in the movie Get Out and I was being pranked. :-) I really don't have any qualms besides the people staring at us like we were on display at the zoo and the stuffy and traditional feel just seemed outdated for today's society... So for that reason I would not return and I'm sure many guests would prefer us not to as well. (+_+)
I recently returned from a weekend stay in an oceanside room in the Atlantic Building at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Everything about my stay was perfect. The room was exceptional, the service was first class, and the food was excellent. I could not have asked for more. My only regret is that I couldn't have spent a few more days at the resort!
When we arrived my husband informed the concierge that it was my 60th birthday and asked for a recommendation for dinner. About an hour later a steward arrived at our room with a surprise - a bottle of champagne and a fruit & cheese platter! The next morning my husband signed up for a round robin tennis match, which included snacks, fruit, and gatorade and then at noon they tapped a keg of beer. What a fun place!!
I stayed at the Resort for two nights at the Island House. Really terrific on all counts. The check in staff was efficient and very courteous, the room was well appointed, and the overall service throughout the resort was terrific everywhere. We had a family dinner at the Friday buffet at the Golf Club which was delicious. It's just a terrific resort overall. Finally, I had left something in the room, and the housekeeping staff mailed the item back to me at my home. You just can't ask for more than that.
I had high expectations of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club after what I had heard about the property. I stayed for only one night for a business trip. My room was in the main inn (455). The room was very run down. Marks on the walls, carpet coming up and it smelled like mildew. Tub in the bathroom did not drain. For a 5 star resort, this room is mediocre at best. I have heard that the ocean rooms are updated, but this is a bad first impression for anyone staying at this inn. I will stay at Marriott down the street next time.
