How to Get There
We greatly enjoyed the location and the staff at Harborside-Atlantis. It has the only heated pool at Atlantis and is a bit different than staying at the actual Atlantis hotels. We had a full apartment with washer/dryer, amazing microwave/convection oven that can also grill somehow, and the staff were happy people. They did not always seem to have the correct answer though, some of the concierge staff were more accurate than others (Sharon was the most accurate person we encountered and got us booked into 3 tours that we were told were full by other staff). I do recommend making use of the grocery store on the mainland to save money. It is approximately a mile away and walkable though it may not seem safe to do so. I made the trip twice and enjoyed the sushi at Seaside along the way. Cabs wait across the street at the Poop Deck parking lot, but you can also arrange a taxi through the hotel or the grocery store. There is a liquor store also along the way, just don't be surprised that the doors are kept locked... they buzz you in at both the liquor store and Seaside Chinese/Sushi. Also keep in mind that you do not have to use the Harborside shuttle to get around, there is a walkway that goes under the Harborside that takes you to the Royal within a 15 min walk or the tennis courts. Cutting through the marina is another option to get to the casino or waterpark. The shuttle does not pick-up at the Hotel Beach, you have to walk through the lobby to Coral. The internet and filtered water must be purchased at Harborside. We were unable to stream video rentals unless we downloaded them overnight beforehand.
This is our fourth visit to this resort, it has become a yearly tradition with another family during our kids break from school. We always get the two bedroom lockout suite and have always been very pleased with the accommodations, service, hospitality and everything. However, this will now be our last visit to this resort as it has really gone downhill since our last visit. Our room was missing the strike plate on the door that would keep it from being fully closed, which we didn’t notice till after we got here and fully unpacked, and they told us it would be a 72 hour repair! First of all they should have never rented anyone this room with a feature like that missing and they claimed they didn’t know. However, we also got woken up by a 1am security call telling us our door looked like it was open one night when we already made the complaint. We didn’t move, because we had two families already unpacked so just dealt with it. The bathroom tub had hair in it, faucet coming out from wall, no dish soap or anything that you normally get first day, balcony wouldn’t open, and we had to call several times to get the air conditioning fixed. After several complaints they wound up waiving our wifi for the week, but big deal it works only spotty at times at best. The last time we complained we told them we were leaving at 5 and they had till we got back to get some of the issues fixed (which now included our room not been properly cleaned). They did fix the balcony, air, semi vacuumed and left fresh towels. The air still never worked properly. Did I mention we also got a letter one day that the water in our building would be turned off 10-4?!? We had to shower in another building and water didn’t go on till after 5. Showers never got heated up properly either. The list goes on and on. Resort needs a major overhaul and cleansing.
As for the water park...kids had a great time but as another reviewer said with the amount of cruise ships that come in the wait for slides can be lengthy. It would be nice if they gave different wristbands and fast passes to those staying on property, spending more money here to be able to get on the slides faster get better lounge chair seating and so forth as to not feel burdened by the amount of people they allow in.
Needless to say this is our last visit to harbor side, our next visit will be to Baha Mar which looks how Atlantis did years ago. Surprising with the competition now Atlantis isin’t doing more to step up their game.
Stayed 1 week! ALL the employees @ the facility were fantastic. The rooms are "Weston" style and very comfortable but there were too many minor maintenance issues. All were fixed ASAP. We booked a private 3 hr tour with Life style Limousines( David Taylor) and it turned out to be fantastic. Saw the good and not so good parts of the island along with historical areas. David is knowledgeable and personable.(5 star) All the Atlantis facilities are available by walking or by routine hotel shuttle. Commodity prices are very high (it's an island) but the bad news is all services have a mandatory 15% tip AND a 12% VAT tax. For tourists with moderate means this can quickly take a toll. The locals on the island are also subject to the taxes. The minimum wage is $7.00.
Nice place but no internet. One day we had no water. One day we had no hot water. It was one thing after another on this trip. Normally we really enjoy the facilities and the vacation itself. This year everything was out of kilter.
We recently stayed for 13 nights, and we really felt like we were in paradise for those 13 days! Clean, comfortable and lovely villa, and a wonderful pool to enjoy right at Harborside, as well as access to all the Atlantis pools and features right next door. A shuttle was available, but it was also easy to walk to Marina Village, The Coral and The Royal Towers (and the Dig!) LOVE this place!
