How to Get There
We normally stay on property down at Disney, but this trip we decided to do something different. Since I have always heard that number two tries harder we selected Universal. Then I worked for weeks selecting the right hotel and thought that the Hard Rock was the best for us. The location is great. Most people just walk over to the Studio, or City Walk or IOA right along a well maintained path of about ten minutes from the back of the hotel. We were able to see much of the nightly light show at the Studios right from our hotel window.
They allowed us to check in and gave us our passes and allowed us to pay for park tickets well in advance of the normal check in time. We went over to the City Walk and saw the Mardi Gras parade on the first day. Our room was going to be ready after 3 PM, so they secured our bags for us until the time when we returned from the park.
Universal has a very convenient boat shuttle service from all of their hotels to the City Walk pier. But we could have walked over if we chose.
We upgraded to the Rock Royalty club level which gave us the right to use the concierge lounge. We stopped in for sodas and chips from time to time. Breakfast was served every day. There were no bacon and eggs, but there was any type of bread or doughnuts or croissants that you may want. I like oatmeal or cereal for breakfast, it was there. In the evening there were snacks and light horderves followed by dessert after 8:30 PM.
The room was adequate with many hangers, a hair dryer, and robes. There was a safe an abundance of fluffy towels and two sinks. There was a problem with where the toilet paper dispenser was placed behind the toilet tank making it impossible to use while sitting on the toilet. I had to remove the toilet paper from the dispenser to use and then replace the roll afterwards. Also for what we paid for the room you would think that the hotel room would have a microwave. It did not. There was a microwave in the concierge room, but most hotels provide these in the rooms now.
The room we had was very clean and over looked the Universal Studio park. Elevators were adequate and we never waited long for a car. We used the water taxi boat shuttle a lot of go from the hotel to the parks a lot.
The parks were crowded but the numbers did not over whelm the experience. The Harry Potter areas were very popular.
The price for the room I felt was high but not near as high as we would have paid at Disney. In fact everything was priced less than we would have paid at Disney.
We did not eat in any of the hotel's restaurants. There were four with all price ranges covered. We used the pool area and found it to be fabulous. They had a DJ in the afternoon and a pool bar and limited grill.
We recommend this hotel to especially families and younger couples. Staff personnel were outstanding and always had smiles and friendly up beat attitudes.
We will be back. Many of the questions Tripadvisor are asking below are accessibility questions. We were not in an accessibility room and cannot help you out here.
We asked to stay here again next year during HIMSS. Lots of options at City Walk, great shuttle service to the convention center too. Room was very nice and comfy. Great to work and relax in. The water taxi is a nice touch too.
I have stayed here for 82 nights over the last 5 years and have just finished a 14 night stay. The hotel is still as amazing as it was 5 years ago and hasn’t lost its touch. The pool service was amazing all the staff are really friendly. I would like to thank Saeed, Christopher on reception, Robert & Corey at the pool for making our vacation amazing. Our room was serviced twice daily at an extremely high level. The smell in the lobby is amazing and feels really clean and tidy. The express passes are a huge benefit as it allows you to enjoy the parks at your own pace and free up time to relax by the pool which is what a holiday is all about.
The last day we always make the most of the parks and it’s great that the hotel look after your luggage and allow you to shower and change in the gym so you are fresh before you travel.
Location wise you are just a short walk to universal studios, city walk has so many great loacaions eat and by staying in this resort you get priority seating at selected restaurants in City walk. We ventured over to the portafino bay a few times as Sals pizza is amazing and it’s a really nice walk, the gardens maintain the grounds so well.
Being able to purchase everything to your room and have your shopping delivered to your room is a nice touch so you do not need to carry it around the parks.
Early admission is another huge win especially for Volcano bay. We were able to ride every slide in the first two hours before other visitors arrived allowing us to enjoy the park at a relaxed pace
I could go on and on about all the amazing things this place has to offer.
The food by the pool is really nice considering it’s pool food and it’s nice when you are tired to order food from the shop on level 1 which is open at 6:30 - 11pm at night.
Thanks everyone at hard rock, I am already booked to return in September for 14 nights.
I was a little nervous about our stay when we checked in our room around 10pm on 2/14 and it was obvious someone had been in it before us. The front desk sent the housekeeping Manager, Sonia, who immediately assured me the room was not to HR standards and immediately went to work rectifying the situation. It was her quick action and empathetic responses that saved what could have been an off putting first reaction. The Hard Rock is lucky to have such an amazing ambassador for their brand. The rest of the stay was wonderful. We will be back.
Hard not to love to location of the Hard Rock to Universal. Check in was great, room was good with one exception. We had stinky smell coming from our hallway like a dirty mop or puke. I looked at the vents and noticed black marks coming down the wall by vent. After three days pretty sure it was from hallway. Bar area by the pool is outstanding with great service. Our room was cleaned everyday with no issues. The hotel is the perfect size so grabbing food was never an issue or to crowded like a Disney hotel.
