It’s in Orlando, but this is no Mickey Mouse operation. A member of Marriott’s Autograph collection, this 247-room high-rise is a cosmopolitan meeting place, complete with an art gallery featuring the work of local artists, the Bösendorfer Lounge jazz bar, and a gourmet restaurant, La Boheme, which specializes in aged steaks. The property’s central downtown location attracts all manner of guests—from wedding parties to business travelers—along with families who are hitting Walt Disney World.
In the Area
Its downtown location means that the Grand Bohemian is minutes away from everything Orlando has to offer, from the bars and restaurants of Church Street Station, to sporting events at the Amway Center, to art at the Orlando Museum of Art and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum. Anything we forgot to mention? Oh yes, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, and Sea World are each less than a 20 minute drive from the resort.
How to Get There
I stayed here with my rmother for a weekend of relaxation and fun. For location, this property gets five stars—conveniently located in downtown Orlando, over the course of our three day stay we were able to walk to both Lake Eola and to the stadium for an Orlando Pride soccer game. There are numerous restaurants and bars within walking distance, and we never felt unsafe walking downtown. The lobby definitely has a ‘bohemian’ feel, with dark red furnishings and really cool artwork throughout. The room was nice and well-appointed—though aside from the artwork, the in-room experience didn’t feel much different from the Courtyard or Springill I typically stay at when I travel for work. It was nice, but not sure if was nice enough to justify the price tag without some updates. We had a view of the Dr. Phillips Center. The pool is great, with pretty views of the city and plenty of chairs for sunbathing and a nice awning with tables if you want to escape the sun. My mother enjoyed her massage at the Poseidon Spa, and said Sheila was lovely. We ordered room service one evening, and both the pizza and burger were delicious. The piano lounge is a unique element. The one element that was disappointing was check-in and check-out; at check-in, they seemed to be more interesting in chatting with each other than welcoming guests. At check-out, we’d requested a bellhop with a luggage cart to help us get things out of our room as we had multiple bags. Unfortunately, after waiting 30 minutes we were forced to give up and lug everything downstairs ourselves. It wasn’t the end of the world, but it was a disappointing end to what had otherwise been a very nice weekend. That said, valet and room service were both very friendly, as was the attendant I chatted with briefly at the pool. Overall, I think I’d stay here again on points or if it was a special occasion, but would give it a pass for day-to-day travel.
We stayed and this establishment prior to our annual Spring Break trip with the kids. The service with top notch from the front desk to the room. Due to our platinum status we were upgraded to a suite that offered a separate bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room. This offered us additional privacy that is convenient when traveling with teenagers. The front desk attendants informed us that the lounge was not available to us since it's closed on the weekends but offered us vouchers that can be used for the breakfast buffet. Overall this was a very nice stay and we really appreciated the opportunity see a different side of Orlando. My wife and I will definitely return without the kids to experience Orlando without Disney.
The service was severely lacking, especially for the cost of a room! We stayed for 4 days. Didn't get maid service the first two days (did have hours long windows without the "Do not disturb" on the door). On the third day, I requested the room be cleaned while we were at breakfast (over an hour) - it was not. NO service at the pool, and the water supplied was always empty. The phone was painted in and "hidden", the phone connection sucked, and the service from that phone took 3 hours to bring me a beer. There were MANY people there that wanted drinks, no one but me got one. The controls for the hot tub were not labelled in any way. Breakfast service was great (thanks Renford!), but the kitchen was SLOW! Asked for an HDMI cable at the front desk, they didn't have one. I bought one down the street - why couldn't they? Overall upkeep of the pool area was poor. The room itself was great. My wife is a Dr. Phillips, and my sister is getting her PhD at UCF, so having a view of the Dr. Phillips Center was cool! The "in room Jacuzzi" I bought for $400 extra was just jets in a normal tub. While it may have been a Jacuzzi brand, it was far below expectation. The "in room Jacuzzi" I had in Vegas was a six seat hot tub - that's what a luxury hotel should be. I have a better "in room Jacuzzi" in my master bath at home. We never used the tub once, why would we? $400 wasted due to a crap description and crap execution at the hotel.
I have been a long time Marriott Rewards, now Bonvoy member. I had a last minute family emergency and had to change my plans. While I understand their cancellation policies as well as why they have them, I a not an abuser of the policies and wanted to cancel my reservation. I was genuinely unaware there was a 2 day cancellation (not the day before that is typical) and they not only charged me this fee, they charged me a "no show". So they charged me extra for not using the room they charged me for? What is that? Their "UN-LOYAL COLORS" showed int his situation. Horrible. I have now canceled ALL of my 6 future (next 4 months) reservations within the Marriott hotel group.
What a fantastic place our travel agent saved the best for last, it’s in a great spot and so quiet you wouldn’t believe your in the business district area.
We are on the top floor (15)and the views are great but the room is so big it’s got a king size bed , full size sofa and a 50 in tv with cable of course it’s not the cheapest but boy is it good .staff are so friendly can’t do enough for you too marks to the management.
