It’s in Orlando, but this is no Mickey Mouse operation. A member of Marriott’s Autograph collection, this 247-room high-rise is a cosmopolitan meeting place, complete with an art gallery featuring the work of local artists, the Bösendorfer Lounge jazz bar, and a gourmet restaurant, La Boheme, which specializes in aged steaks. The property’s central downtown location attracts all manner of guests—from wedding parties to business travelers—along with families who are hitting Walt Disney World.
In the Area
Its downtown location means that the Grand Bohemian is minutes away from everything Orlando has to offer, from the bars and restaurants of Church Street Station, to sporting events at the Amway Center, to art at the Orlando Museum of Art and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum. Anything we forgot to mention? Oh yes, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, and Sea World are each less than a 20 minute drive from the resort.
How to Get There
Room was great! Soft comfy bed and great style. Spa, not so much. We were visiting for Christmas party. I had just had my hair blown out. The massage therapist tried to hard upsell addition treatments including an oil scalp massage. I didn’t select any extras on the sheet and expressed vehement that I didn’t want any oil or products on my hair. She proceeded to give me a facial treatment I didn’t request and smeared a bunch of goopy product in my hair. Midstream I tried to stop her and she said no worries I’ll remove it with a hot wet towel. Hello? I told her not to touch my freshly blown out hair and she ruined in 10 minutes into an over priced 80min massage. I was tense and frankly pissed the whole time after which I paid for this massage. She also ignored the note to avoid my bad knee and proceeded to awkwardly jam into the table. They provided a meager discount and a bar of soap an an apology. Insulting and I had to scramble to redo my hair, which was no longer salon quality. Beside the bad massage therapist we had a valet issue. When they brought our car down upon check out it was damaged on the passenger side wheel well. Appears as though a corner was clipped on a white guard rail. I was so upset and in a hurry by then we left.
This hotel cannot get it together. Every time I stay there, there are problems with my room (phone doesn’t work, hot water won’t stay hot, key reader doesn’t work, lamp is broken, the cleaning service throws out my contact lens case, the sink stopper is stuck, etc, etc). It’s so dark in the rooms you can hardly see to do work or get ready even when you turn all lights on. The place is also just tired looking. It needs a revamp. They also don’t really have a down-free room option and AC turns off in the middle of the night so you’re hot every time. It’s one thing after another with this place. Very frustrating. Even little things like the front doors aren’t automatic and you have to open a heavy door with all your bags...
Here is what happened during and now after our stay at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Orlando, Fl.
Our stay surrounded our Wedding on Halloween. A friend of ours as a wedding present booked and paid for my now wife to stay at the Grand Bohemian the night prior so we could keep to the tradition of not seeing the bride before the wedding and have a nice & spacious area for the company I hired to do her hair and makeup before our big day. With doing everything for our wedding ourselves we ran late in getting her checked in that night on October 30th in which while we checked her in, which was at around 1:30am in the morning. I requested the stay be extended another day for us to stay the night of our wedding as a gift from my Mother & Aunt. The front desk clerk that assisted us wasn’t the friendliest during check in or after informing her of our request to stay another night for our wedding. She insisted that the extra night be paid for up front and wasn’t understanding that my Family wished to pay for it as a present but was obviously not awake or present to do so at 1:30am. Finally after a few minutes of re-explaining she used my card to hold the room the extra night for a $100 hold, and put a note in the reservation that we would have until 11am for my Family to fulfill the payment obligations. Promptly at 9am there was a knock at the room and a receipt was slipped thru the door for auto check out. My fiancé called down to the front desk and explained again for a third time that the room had been extended until Nov 1st at which point she was again hassled for payment and explained to please look at the notes attached with the room and that payment would be given as soon as the mother of the groom was able to come by before 11am. She then went downstairs to meet with her bridal team, Hair & Makeup Stylist and upon returning to her room, her keycard was no longer active. Upon returning to the front desk to get another keycard, she was then again hassled that payment had not been made and that the room had already been checked out. She was asked for identification which was upstairs in the room with her wallet. After a lot of frustration she was finally given a room key and was able to get ready for our wedding which she was now running late for, due to all of the hassles and time wasted by the Hotel. Payment was setup through a card authorization form through fax & email by my family. I sincerely didn’t appreciate the staff harassing my bride mere hours before we were to get married. Thanks to the staff not being diligent in reading the notes after being asked multiple times, They made her late to our Wedding and completely messed up our time table in which we only had the hall rented for 4 hours. Being our wedding was during the day on a weekday we scheduled it so all of our friends who couldn't take the day off could at least be there for our I Do's during their lunch hour. The Hotel caused us to shorten everything on Our Big Day.
Upon returning to the Hotel that evening we were both hungry and I had requested something from room service while at the front desk before heading up to the room. We ordered 2 Pressed paninis be delivered to our room. After 30 minutes or so the food was delivered, this was around 2:30/3am. We were exhausted from having such a long day and with it being so late we didn’t have a bunch of lights in the room on. Delivered with our Paninis was a Carafe of water, which we drank more than half of the water in it. In the morning my wife shows me what we were drinking out of just prior to going to bed. The carafe was the most dingy, mold covered glass I have ever seen. Attached are the photos and video of what we drank out of. How this was able to be filled and served without being seen is beyond me. Since then my wife and I had to go to the doctors because of how ill we both became being given a bacterial infection from their moldy carafe. Our days following our wedding have been unbelievably unpleasant. With each morning hoping we would wake up feeling better, we've felt worse. Upon bringing the Carafe to corporate's attention, their only response was," sorry it happened and we will let the GM of Grand Bohemian know to contact you". It has been over a week now and we still have not received a response from him. All of the effort & hard work we had put into our wedding, the last thing we wanted was for a Signature Marriott Hotel to have such a negative impact on our wedding week. Extremely disappointed and still sick.
Favorite hotel conveniently located in downtown Orlando near dining, nightlife, and sports venues. Only took one photo this trip, but I loved the 1 bedroom king suite. Room 803 was much more spacious than the standard king rooms I’ve stayed in previously. Did not use the sleeper sofa, but bed was very comfortable. Helpful staff at check-in and valet. Always wish the rooms had brighter lighting and less bulky window treatments to maximize natural light, but everything flows stylistically.
I've stayed at the GB a couple of times on business trips--absolutely love the property, especially the rooms. Clean, attractive, and well-decorated. Wish I could stay in the room rather than go into the office. Only (minor) complaint is that it can be hard to find the garage on your first visit.
