The Lowdown

It’s in Orlando, but this is no Mickey Mouse operation. A member of Marriott’s Autograph collection, this 247-room high-rise is a cosmopolitan meeting place, complete with an art gallery featuring the work of local artists, the Bösendorfer Lounge jazz bar, and a gourmet restaurant, La Boheme, which specializes in aged steaks. The property’s central downtown location attracts all manner of guests—from wedding parties to business travelers—along with families who are hitting Walt Disney World.

In the Area

Its downtown location means that the Grand Bohemian is minutes away from everything Orlando has to offer, from the bars and restaurants of Church Street Station, to sporting events at the Amway Center, to art at the Orlando Museum of Art and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum. Anything we forgot to mention? Oh yes, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, and Sea World are each less than a 20 minute drive from the resort.

Stayed here for our anniversary weekend in June. The hotel itself is beautiful and the art everywhere is amazing. However I have a few gripes with this hotel. First one, the a/c unit is in the upper corner of the room, nowhere near the bed so it got very warm at night. Also there is only a mini bar fridge in the room and no room for me to leave my left overs from dinner or cool anything I brought. I had to take out most of the things from the mini fridge and then was charged for taking it out!! I had to go down to lobby and let the front desk know that none of those items were used and I got my money back. Very inconvenient. Last gripe was that the pool was closed for the majority of the weekend for wedding celebrations. We were offered the option to go to another pool at a partnered hotel however no one at the front desk mentioned it and I had to ask around to find out what was going on. I still had a great time and front desk and valet staff were very pleasant and attentive.

The hotel is well located in Downtown area, if this is what you want. Very efficient valet parking with in-out privileges for a decent price -29 dollars plus tax. The Starbucks downstairs very handy. The lobby a bit tired and does not really have a feel of artsy boutique hotel what this hotel is aiming at. However the rooms are excellent - nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, much better then the firs impression. The small gym is very sufficient and the pool is nice. People working at the reception are not efficient however - nice but not efficient. A lot of effort to have anything done, charging the card for things that were supposed to be paid already, all kinds of hiccups.

I checked into the Grand Bohemian Hotel on 06/15/2018 for a one night stay. At check in, the incompetency of the staff became immediately apparent. Although I had my reservation for weeks, the front desk employee was not able to process a single thing without walking behind a wall, finding a supervisor and returning 20 minutes later, which happened twice. So 40 minutes after arrival, I was able to get the key to my room. On Sunday 06/17/2018 when I checked my banking account, there was a mysterious $250 charge from the Hotel. So on top of my room charge of $300, a $100 incidental charge, there was an additional $250 charge! The first employee I talked to when I realized the additional fee, stated it was a customary Authorization fee. After being on hold for over an hour, a manager finally admitted it was a complete mistake and they should not have charged my card the additional $250. So for a one night stay they held over $650 from my account! Now they stated they would release the funds, have you ever tried to get your bank to release the funds!? It took my bank over 5 days to release the funds. For 5 days I did not have access to over $650, for a one night stay, all due to the staffs incompetence. I spent over 10 hours on the phone with the staff at the Hotel and Marriott as a corporation and they were not willing to compensate me one cent for the mistake they made. After talking with the General Manager Justin [-], it became obvious that his staff is a product of his training and has equal character to him as well, which absolutely none. Justin Williams demanded I send him my bank statements to prove I over drafted from that account due to his staffs error! I did not feel comfortable sharing my personal financial statements with a staff that has the ability they had already proven. Therefore Justin [-] will not compensate me for the over draft fees, Marriott corporation is sticking by this general managers decision! Unbelievable! If you are considering staying here, DO NOT DO IT! YOU MAY BE ROBBED BY THE HOTEL AND YPOU WILL NOT BE COMPENSATED!!! BEWARE OF THE GENERAL AMNAGER AND THE ENTIRE INCOMPETENT STAFF!!! CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOUR POCKETS!!!!

Outstanding concierge and staff!

I recently visited the Grand Bohemian Orlando to interview for a job. What a great stay! Comfortable rooms with style, a well-stocked business center with snacks, a rooftop pool, and an amazing concierge named Phillip. I told the staff I was interviewing for a position, and Phillip went into "we're going to help you get the gig" mode. They made adjustments to let me check out at 3 pm instead of noon so I could get back from my interview, change clothes, and get to the airport. I forgot my razor- they had one and shaving cream at my door in 5 minutes. Every time I passed through the lobby I got a "you got this!" or some such. He helped me find a great bakery I could get to by bus for lunch, and the rest of the staff followed his tone for excellent service. I am a Marriott Rewards Gold member and the responsiveness of Phillip and his staff went well above and beyond the usual high standard I expect. I did get a job offer, and I attribute Phillip and team's support as a key in helping me be ready to succeed. Great hotel, great staff.

Beautiful rooms and amenities. Exquisite artwork and a Starbucks downstairs. Right in the heart of Downtown Orlando and close to government buildings, offices and the Sunrail transit system. Safe place to stay with valet car park.
