Super stay for business right outside of universal

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Super staff. Great meals there. Close to everything. Clean trendy appointed rooms. We enjoyed all aspects of the property and had things to do even with the heavy rains that struck during our visit.

My husband and I stay at hotels all the time for our jobs. For our 8th year wedding Anniversary we decided to stay at the Doubletree at the Entrance to Universal Studios. The staff was EXCELLANT!!! Everyone we met said hello and were happy to help with everything. We would definitely stay there again. Also its so close and easy to get to Universal Studios.

Great location, fabulous staff...book with confidence

Overall we were very impressed with the Doubletree by Hilton at the entrance to Universal Studios. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - people like Scott Charmin the "best bellboy in town" and all the others working at the hotel - they are personable, extremely friendly, eager to assist. This is the sign of a well run hotel in my opinion. The hotel is very clean, beds are comfortable, wifi works sufficiently - my only complaint to be honest is the pool which was too cold. Admittedly we had quite a bit of rain the day we arrived but next day it was just too cold for our young son to swim in it so we just didn't use it (this is the only reason I have rated the hotel as a 4 - I would have given 4.5 if I could have). The restaurant is good although a bit pricey considering there are quite a few restaurants within easy walking distance. There is a Starbucks and a pizza place that is open late also in the hotel. We were able to buy our Universal Tickets at the hotel & they provide a bus transfer that you must book the day before. We booked the 8:05am one and had no issues, next day we decided on 8:50 am but it was a big mistake - for some reason it was a very busy day at Universal but the bus was 45 minutes late in arriving & they had to call in a second one because they had 2 loads of people waiting to get on. This is likely not the hotels issue but the transfer company but good for the hotel to be aware. Also this hotel IS within walking distance of Universal and despite what I have read on other reviews you can certainly walk it & walk it safely. There is a sidewalk with a proper crossing over the busy road and sidewalk on one side of Universal that will take you right in. Maximum 15 minute walk I would say door to door.

Bottom line with this hotel is it's an excellent choice for a hotel right by Universal - you simply can't go wrong choosing this one.

Quick check in, clean rooms and very friendly staff! Really nice pool area and perfect location.

Handy to have a built in Starbucks, shame about the $20/day parking but I can’t complain

Would definitly visit again - staff really do make this place and have been greeted by all staff we’ve met!

Universal Trip
Reviewed 2 days ago

We stayed at Doubletree at Universal for our kids birthday trip to Universal. We selected the hotel because of the location, the shuttle service and the 'free' breakfast. It's a well appointed hotel, very upscale with lots of amenities (that we did not use, because we were having too much fun at Universal).
The Hotel is a 20+ minute walk from the entrance to Universal, so we opted to use the free shuttle. We arrived at 9am, and were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was ready for check in. This was a major bonus. Once we were settled, we hopped on the shuttle to start our Universal adventure. (loved the bus driver, too. Very helpful and animated). Doubletree is at the end of the line of 5 hotels for the shuttle, so it took 5 mins to get to the park. But in the evening, it took 20-30mins to get back.
The room was as expected - 2 comfy queen beds, an arm chair, a small table, a desk and an office chair. The fridge was tiny, but met our needs. We were disappointed that there was no microwave. The bathroom was standard, but I didn't like the lighting - too dim. There really should be an option for brighter lights. Also, the room came equipped with a night light that could not be turned off. All our family is very sensitive to light at night, so it made if very hard to sleep.
Breakfast (knock off one rating point). When we booked the hotel, we were assured that breakfast was included for all of us. Upon check in, we were told this was not so. We had to go find fast food for breakfast. Seriously, for the price of this place, a hot breakfast should be included by default.
Double charged (knock off another rating point): We paid for our room in advance, but upon check out we were told there was no record, and were charged again. The receptionist was quite rude and impatient as we tried to resolve it. This has now been resolved (over the phone), but I wanted to include it in the review, as it seems it is an ongoing issue within the Doubletree-Hilton alliance. And patrons need to be aware of what they will encounter.
Overall, our stay was pleasant and the hotel met our needs. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. We only had an issue with one member of staff.
