How to Get There
Please allow me to begin this review by saying that I have thoroughly enjoyed travelling to WDW Resorts all of my life, and as a DVC Member since 1999. However, after being so rudely treated by Disney Housekeeping "Castmembers" insistent on doing a room "Inspection" while I was in my underwear, I will find a new place to vacation. I jumped out of the shower to answer a knock at the door around 2pm, and informed Housekeeping that since I arrived late, at 2am, after flight delays, I did not need service, but could use clean towels if they would come back in 5 minutes. They returned 45 minutes later with 3 bath towels. I then asked if I could also have a few fresh washcloths, which they did not have and said they would need to return later. So they were able to still conduct their "Inspection" another hour later when I left my room. I know this because they left a stack of 22 (yes twenty-two!) washcloths on my bathroom sink. They also insisted on another "inspection" around 10am on my morning of departure. My thought was that they expected I had already checked-out, but no, they knew I was still checked-in, and needed to inspect again?!? I wish I had saved the Cheerio's found on the floor, and stained sofa bed cushions and linens to show them for their "inspections."
As DVC members we’ve stayed at numerous properties, we chose AKL for this visit because Mrs Guster loves the animals and the availability suited our needs. This visit we encountered wet weather for the three day stay but we didn’t let it dampen our experience. We have never been disappointed with any visit to Disney properties - the amazing thing to me about Disney is they set the bar so very high for experience and deliver every single time. The property was immaculate (as usual) and the cast members were always cheerful and helpful. We saw 8-10 different animal types this visit including zebras, giraffes, yaks, ostriches and more. We dined on property and submitted a review separately. We love Disney and unabashedly recommend DVC ownership to all.
I have stayed t many of the Disney hotel and this is always my go to hotel. Last stayed 2014 visited it last year.
Staff are amazing, we were celebrating my birthday while there and came back from the parks to find a card and cake from the front desk wishing me a happy birthday. amazing day had.
My husband, two children (4 & 6) and I stayed in a 1 bedroom Savannah View suite the first week of May. This was our first time staying Deluxe - we typically go Value or Moderate because we don't plan to spend too much time in our rooms. I did a lot of research ahead of time so maybe my expectations were TOO high!
Room: We stayed in room 7329 which was on the third floor, south end of the Sunrise Savannah. The view was AMAZING. We had giraffes, addix, cattle, zebras, ostrich and many other animals outside our room at all hours of the day. They were fed early evening so we got to see them while we relaxed after a day at the parks. The room was spacious - included two bathrooms, pull out couch, pull out chair, giant shower, etc; Everything was very clean and the room was quiet. Unlike at the values, you couldn't hear people walking by at night or anyone on either side of you. The only issue with the room is that you have nowhere to really put the cushions when you're using the pullout beds. It definitely made the room seem more crowded than it was having those stacked about.
Hotel: Ok, Kidani is gorgeous. BUT, I often found myself thinking, "I wish I stayed at Jambo". We spent the majority of our time at Jambo. There's a shuttle that comes about every 10 minutes to bring you to Jambo or you can walk (it's about a 10 minute walk lobby to lobby). My kids preferred the quick service over there and we ate at Boma a few times and enjoyed the playground. After being at the parks, it just seemed like a haul to have to keep going to Jambo for Mara (the quick service place). However, Kidani has it's benefits. It's quieter all around. The lobby is quaint and the views of the savannah can't be beat. The hallways are LONG. You'll want a room close to the lobby if possible or you'll find yourself walking a long way just to get to the lobby or transportation.
Pool: My kids LOVED the pool and splash area at Kidani. The waterslide was a big hit. They looked forward to hitting up the pool every day after the parks. They had poolside activities that many older kids were enjoying. Kidani has a better pool than Jambo overall.
Transportation: Kidani gets picked up first... big plus! The busses got crowded - often filling up at Kidani and then going to Jambo to get a few more people. Transportation is close to the Zazu elevator that we used.
Other: The staff at this hotel are so nice! They played drums with my kids and were always readily available at the savannah to discuss the animals. We went to the Community Hall and arcade a few times. The Community Hall is a hidden gem - it has board games, foosball, PS4 and Wii, blocks, toys, coloring... and the staff are so nice in there! We spent a few hours in there before heading to the airport. The arcade is small but keeps the kids busy for about a half hour.
Food: We ate quick service breakfast at Sanaa and it was anything but quick. You have to order and they prepare the food while you sit down and wait... just like a regular restaurant. We opted to head to Mara for quick service after that experience. Unfortunately, you have to trek to Jambo for Mara and Boma - which we did a lot. There is a soda refill station within the gift shop that was convenient.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay! I just wish we didn't have to trek to Jambo for quick service and the playground.
We are DVC members and love to try out the various resorts. Kidani Village did not disappoint. We had a two-bedroom villa and easily accommodated four adults and children 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, and 2 under two. Master bedroom and bath were high-end, and the second bedroom had two queens. The villa had three full bath (master had separate tub and shower), bull kitchen, and washer/dryer. Kidani is light on shopping and restaurants, but it was an easy walk to Jambo House which had more food options. Kidani's pool is great. One surprise was Disney's bus service--Kidani is ideally placed on the bus route, we were first on and first off on all the service from the Animal Kingdom Lodge area. At least for us this confirmed that the Animal Kingdom Lodge DVC options and some of the best. Definitely would stay here again.
