How to Get There
We bought into the Disney Vacation Plan Bolder Ridge Lodge, part of The
Wilderness Lodge. This place is so quite and peaceful. The only thing I did not like was you checked in at the Wilderness Lodge not Bolder Ridge. The only person working to assist you was one man conceigars who was always busy so we’d have to walk to the main lodge for assistance.
Loved the accommodations. It’s close to the bus rides.
the rooms are very nice . the beds are comfy and the shower is very large.
the toilet is too low. every time we try to sit we have to fall into the bowl as we are both over 5'10" . the couch and chair in the living room are the most uncomfortable pieces of furniture ever , we were more comfortable sitting in the wood chair . the kitchen area was good . we like this hotel because when you walk out the back door the pool is right there ,
My husband and I became empty nesters in the fall and decided to go to WDW sans kids for the first time in 20 years. Since it was a 'last minute trip' according to Disney standards (we booked in late Sept) Boulder Ridge was the only DVC that had a full week available. I was a little concerned because we stayed at Copper Creek in August and the transportation was horrible but we also didn't want to do a split stay so we went with it.
So glad we did! We received a text that our room was ready while on the Magical Express. This was great because we ended up having our luggage because our luggage tags never arrived even though I was told they were mailed out on February 1. We left on Feburary 9. It's February 21 today and they still haven't arrived =0))). Anyway, we were aware of our other option but decided to get the luggage ourselves just to avoid potential complications. Since our room was ready we didn't have to store them at the bell hop.
Our room was clean and all of the staff was friendly as always. They emptied our trash everyday which doesn't happen in every DVC. They also restocked all of our toiletries mid visit which doesn't always happen when they change out your towels.
We loved the location of our room and the proximity to the bus stop. We were on the third floor, turn right, the second door down. So we were close to the elevator but there wasn't a ton of traffic. It felt very private as we never saw anyone else in the halls.
The transportation was competely the opposite from the summer. We waited once at the hotel for a bus and that was five minutes. Usually the bus was just pulling up or was there waiting and we just had to jog up the path. The drivers were excellent this time with waiting for people when they see them coming. We took the boat a few times from Magic Kingdom and it was typically there. Once we waited maybe ten minutes. The one time we took it from WL to the Campsite the boat was pulling away as we got to the dock so we waited a while for that one. We have learned through the years that if you have a dinner reservation at another hotel that its easiest and safest to take a Lyft or Uber. Even if the resort is next door! We use Lyft and it was never more than $10 to go to our destination.
There were only two things that were negative to me about this hotel this trip.
*The washer/dryer unit was so incredibly loud. It sounded like it was going to jump right out of the closet.
*This is one of those resorts that the one bedroom configuration has that weird bathroom with all the doors and the part with the bathtub is open to the master bedroom. The Beach Club is like this too. I don't know why they use this layout. It was manageable with the two of us but when we bring our kids or other people who might want privacy, its problematic.
One last thing. A lot of people order from Instacart, Amazon Pantry and so on. I would make sure you are down there when the driver gets there. This is why.
We used Instacart/Publix to order fresh fruit, bread, coffee and such for breakfast and asked the driver to text when he arrived. We also watched him on the app. So he texts us and my husband leaves to go to the lobby. He must have just missed him because he had to log our order in at the bell hop and give it to them to hold. It was maybe five minutes. By the time my husband got there they couldn't find it. He was there 15 minutes and then called me to contact the driver. He told me what he did. All the while the bell hop was complaining about Instacart not labeling their bags correctly. The bell hop finally asks my husband to come look. He found it clearly marked in 30 seconds!!
We have been DVC members for over a decade and the Villas at WL remain our favorite home away from home. We have stayed at WL probably during each month over the years, but November and December are always special as it just feels like the perfect Christmas setting. I do miss that we used to be able to get massages at Sturdy Branches, but the spa out by the main pool is nice, too. We enjoy the central location of the WL, but also that it is peaceful on the Villas side. The remodel is beautiful and the added bar/restaurant/quick service by the Villas pool is a great add!
We've been to all of the Disney luxury resorts and prefer to stay at top of the line properties for our resorts only stays. We were able to secure a villa as non members and would do it again if the opportunity arises. We truly loved the building and rooms. They are much bigger than average Disney rooms and we loved having the kitchen option.
Positives: room size and lay out. I loved having a smaller building and private villas only pool.
Negatives: Disney properties now charge you for parking. That's ridiculous considering the rates and cost of food. The properties are huge and very difficult to navigate for anyone with mobility needs. The parking location is far from the villa door and then you still have to walk a ton to get to your room. This issue is not only a problem here, but at many of the Disney properties. We were traveling with my elderly mother and this made it very difficult for us.
We did not visit any parks and truly got to enjoy the property. The bus system seemed slow and thus we only took the boats or drove our car.
