How to Get There
We have now stayed twice in this hotel, one at the height of summer and once in deepest winter. Alpenhof has become one of our favorite places globally (...and indeed we have traveled widely). Extremely nice location, highly professional but still personal staff, outstanding restaurant, great leisure facilities. Murnau is a small town with interesting art museums and traditions, well worth visiting.
On both occasions, we had a nice spacious room with spectacular alpine views. Particularly noteworthy is the superb restaurant which provides top quality locally sourced meals- but, be warned, at a price...
We stayed two nights to celebrate our birthdays in that recently renovated traditional country side hotel. Very nicely decorated lobby with open fire place, a well sorted bar, dining room with a tastefully designed feel well ambiance and delicious food, great wines, attentive service and: best breakfast ever! Large charmingly designed room. Very close to a breathtaking nature around. Perfect price-performance ratio. The stay was great pleasure for us. We'll for sure come back soon.
The public rooms of this mountain and lakeside hotel are lovely! Sort of Alpine Rustic Light. The grounds also are beautiful.
However, this appears to be a property that has been added on to and built out over time. Our room, 420, was an older room with no air conditioning and alas no window screens either. It was quite warm when we visited and unless the patio door and windows were opened, no air circulation. Suffice it to say, we were the main course for every blood sucking bug in Southern Germany.
Visit in the winter.
We reserved a night in the hotel
A very nice one, with a great ambiance, peaceful... great service, nice swimming pool , rooms were excellent, breakfast was delicious, beautiful view to the nature around
The Alpenhof is a very traditional, bavarian hotel with quite a long history. It is situated with wonderful scenic views towards the Garmisch-Partenkirchen-Alps. The ambiance is modern bavarian, rooms are at least renovated, partly brand new. Food is excellent, breakfast buffet leaves no wishes. Staff is mostly english spoken, very friendly and courteous. Indoor and outdoor pool available, not very large but nice. We stayed as a couple and we will come back for sure.
