- Room Service
Capella’s location — hugging a cliff over the Pacific — gives the resort a natural grandeur, yet the rooms and public spaces, such as a sunbathing terrace set among wave-splashed boulders, offer a welcome intimacy. The design lets nature take center stage with muted palettes indoors putting the focus on fuschia flowers, turquoise waters and emerald trees framed by large windows.
Bed & Bath
Nearly every corner of the 59-suite property has the same never-ending sea view, but one of the best vantage points for taking in the expanse of ocean is through the shutters in your suite’s rain forest shower or from the comfort of your private infinity pool. Rather than compete with the glittering view, the room decor is simple but clever. Whitewashed walls are hung with palm frond art and white onyx sconces. Concrete terrace floors are inlaid with small pebbles in graphic designs. Rich wood shutters warm up the spacious bathrooms.
Guests can loll in the large hotel infinity pool that juts out past the cliff’s edge, picnic on the private beach under acacia trees or indulge in a few treatments at the palapa-roofed spa. All on-site amenities are accessible by a network of staircases or, if you’re feeling particularly and happily lazy, via a glass-housed, inclined funicular. For meals, enjoy a sunset dinner at the rustic outdoor restaurant, Las Rocas, which hugs the cliff and allows guests to pick their entree from a display of local catch. If you feel like dressing up, visit the more refined A Mares restaurant, which offers novel dishes such as red snapper with a crust of chorizo, and sushi rolls with a welcome nip of chipotle.
In the Area
Away from the throb of Ixtapa’s main drag, this seaside retreat is within quick striking distance of the town but benefits from a perch on the coast. Get up close and personal with Pacific Coast marine life with Carlo Scuba, a reputable and friendly dive operation in nearby Zihuatanejo. Head away from the tourist crowd to Marisco’s el Tiburon de la Costa (Av Principle, 755-552-62-34), a local lunch spot known for its fresh seafood, bacon-wrapped shrimp and “guac that rocks.” Feast on Argentine steak right on the water at Roberto’s Bistro in nearby Troncones, a classic laid-back beach town. Don’t miss the basil margarita, a zingy twist on the classic cocktail, in the hotel’s Tequila Room, where you can sample more than 65 certified 100-percent agave tequilas.
How to Get There
My wife and I travelled to this resort 4/12 - 4/15 and experienced nothing short of an incredible experience. The service was exceptional, resort was gorgeous (an understatement) and the food was delicious! We speak absolutely no conversational Spanish and to our delight found that all of the staff members spoke excellent English.
I've never stayed in a more memorable room in my entire life. I could endlessly gush over the view, the massive stone walled bathroom, the comfortable bed, the private balcony infinity pool...
Do yourself a favor and book a vacation here. 10/10. We'll never forget our time at Cala de Mar. Thank you!!!!!
ps. We felt completely safe from the moment we landed in Zihuatanejo airport until we left.
beautiful from beginning to the end, cannot wait to go back and see our new friends, we loved the personal assistance you would expect from a "boutique" hotel, all around great!! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you have the best vacation experience.
This is a beautiful hotel, with an excelent service and beautiful rooms. Food is delicious, everything was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel for a weekend getaway, for relaxation. The pools are also beautiful and as I mentioned the service in all the hotel is magnificent. They also have a Spa with great services.
Very nice overall. Exceptional service from all the crew. Amazing views and delicious food. Minor details with room maintenance. Great for couples. Resort has no beach but is very close to playa Linda. Just 7 min from Ixtapa.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Cala de Mar Hotel. The facilites (room, pool, restaurant, common areas) are in perfect shape. The service has great. The plus of having a bicycle for use is great. I feel safe in Ixtapa all the time. The bike and running circuit (10 k is great. Thanks.
